Gerrard throws Morelos under the Lamborghini

386

Just six days after Steven Gerrard pondered if his team had the “bottle” to mount a title challenge, they were unable to overcome Aberdeen at home.  Were it not for Sam Cosgrove having an off day, all three points may have travelled north after the game.

Gerrard’s reaction was typically selfless, “We’re definitely doing something right in terms of the team organisation [trans: I’m good at my job], but I think individuals in it today let us down a bit by giving big chances away [trans: it’s the players fault].

Having absolved himself of all blame, Gerrard went on to throw Morelos under the Lamborghini, “The biggest [chances]were obviously one in the first-half, Alfredo should put Ryan Kent through on goal and the second he should have taken the chance that was presented to him with a fantastic ball by Connor.”

This is not a positive sign.  Good managers are strong enough to open themselves to criticism in order to protect their players.  This guy sounds like he has self-doubts.  Not without reason.

The weekend’s action ended in typical fashion with the champions stretching their lead to seven points, albeit having played a game more than the also-rans.

Credit to Hamilton Accies, who battled with 10-men before collapsing after the 78th minute.  Celtic were uninspiring until that point, but they are champions for a reason.  The game transformed with the arrival from the bench of Jonny Hayes, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic.  Rogic, in particular, has patiently waited his chance.  I would start him at Fir Park on Wednesday.

  1. Hayes crossed it and Julien headed it, the things you learn on CQN.

We have lost a few goals with both Julien & Ajer being outjumped for headers inside the 6 yard box,

It happens, if it’s a well placed cross & a big centre forward is attacking it, they will get a percentage of them.

It is where a defender loses his man or fails to put in a decent challenge that he should get pelters.

A second thing is that the Keeper also has a responsibility here, if it’s inside the 6 yard box it’s in his territory,

Yet no one ever says why didn’t Forster come for it.

All players will make mistakes, yesterday both Ajer & Julien looked uncomfortable on the surface but they were not alone. Up to Juliens goal, very few would have got pass marks.

Julien & Ajer are both fine players and we are lucky to have them.

  2. Even with the extra revenue it brings, at this stage you may be glad Sevco made it through and will face two taxing matches against the Portuguese. Hopefully they get gubbed and it breeds more negativity.

I never want a team from Govan to win but their Europa run actually helps Celtic … I would much prefer Aberdeen, Hibs or even Hearts to gain the co efficient points … but as long as Celtic keep progressing in Europe that’s the main thing … Neil has lost one (dead rubber) game in Europe this season, a tremendous record

I have tried to block that out my memory … I will rephrase

Neil has only lost to one team in this European campaign :-)

One very important game and one dead rubber …. while topping a group stage for the first time ever and putting Lazio out of the tournament

  5. Timaloby at 1.30 you asked if the Council or Celtic had made the decision about the disabled car park. It was the club decided to ask the Council to sell.

I quite like the board’s sanguine approach to “noise”. That said I’d like them to throw a wobbly (even just once a year) to remind the fans that they care.

It would appear our board follow the mantra

“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks”

after last nights away game , we have now played an equal number of 12 games home and away in the SPL.

we have further 4 home and 5 away before the split.

You’re right and we will have played 16 home and 17 away games by the split so we will play 3 at home and two away after the split (19 home games are guaranteed on the Season Ticket)

At home we will almost certainly play Huns, Aberdeen and Motherwell with away games against teams in 5th and 6th – Livingston and Hibs (currently) or Kilmarnock.

Playing a 3rd away game highlights the nonsense of the 33 game split as does playing a 3rd game on a crap plastic surface.

  9. The fixtures will no doubt be flexible in case the league can be clinched against them? They didn’t like that idea a season or two ago, no?

  10. aye a lack of positive statements …negativity in the air and his grey matter being mostly in neutral…

A long time ago I went with a girl fae Whinhall .. (Whinhaw if you’re from north Lanarkshire) her best pal was Traynors niece … his New Year party piece was seemingly the Sash .. start to finish … I just thought there was one verse … funnily enough I was never in the vicinity at that time of year … by the way his niece didn’t care a jot about football …

  12. Michael Stewart is a breath of fresh air on radio, absolutely tearing the rangers cheerleader Kenny McIntyre apart tonight.

  13. Sutton

For me he is level on his opinions. Its not just Rangers but he is smart enough to be level & they hate it as he cant be challenged like they would prefer.

  14. It’s probably all been said, but when did any other player get a platform like that?Lenny?

If he relies on an interpreter, who told him he was being abused on and off the field?

Our club really has to address this.No doubt there’s some who think we should just enjoy these happy times and forget everything else.Stand up for us Celtic, please

  15. Well said @terryoneil67

Michael Stewart has the one quality that is missing from just about every pundit in Scotland, integrity.

  16. I like Michael Stewart I think he is pretty fair … something that Scottish football is sadly lacking … obviously a big Hearts fan and his media cronies were uncomfortable when he got tore into Craig Levein … a wee bit like Chris Sutton when he gets tore into Celtic .. we might not like it but it’s usually pretty honest …

well apart from when Chris Sutton constantly went for our Ronny :-)

  17. Ronny = Celtic

Win every league he competed for and cheated out of more success …

So McFadden ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if the SFA decide to further punish Griffiths.

No doubt he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if Sky offer him further pundit work as a result of his not being surprised.

  19. Still 2½ hours to vote for your 3 stars from yesterday. And I only need 3 more voters to reach the “5,000 votes” barrier.
