Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan

Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.

You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds.  Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place.  The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.

This is where the manager earns his wages.  While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.

Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

  1. Really disappointing evening , went to Asda for Jelly and ice cream only to be told that The Ranjurs fans have bought all their stock …changed days indeed :))

Good, yer listening to yer slightly elders (Cough)….

Tom McAdam was a team player, remember them, outstanding at both Centre Forward, scored some important goals. And, at Centre Half next to big Roddy McDonald.

Straight from the horses mouth. BR has to take a massive chunk of the blame in the lack of preparation as well. Any supporter could have told you Dembele would be sold some time soon so the fact we don’t have a list of targets the length of the Celtic Way ready to act on is a massive oversight.

  5. What a complete and utter shambles this has become , I cannot understand what is going on at our club . If true regards dembele ,I must say I am not in the least surprised he has gone , as I posted a few weeks ago , I felt he was going through the motions , even when scoring his celebration was underwhelming , but he is some player , and will be a huge miss to us . I see Lawwell catching it from all quarters , he is just the boy , our problem is the guy who calls all the shots , yet doesn,t have enough interest in his toy to attend the year end AGM . I am sorry to say , the guy who wanted and welcomed back a club who knowingly cheated his investment out of millions , and the investment of thousands of small investors , guys who probably like myself went into debt to have a part in our club , has no thought whatsoever for the celtic .

  6. All the happy clappers/seals will attend tomorrow night instead of not turning up and sending a strong message to our board enough is enough.

  8. Oh jeez… I goatta stick my tuppuce worth in here…

We have an extremely talented player who wanted to leave. I wish him well, fine player he is. I hope he stays injury fit and fulfills his potential. We got a great deal on him… only gripe would be if there is no sell on clause.

We have a 40 goal a season hit man who can’t get a regular start. He will win is the SPL.

We signed another young promising Frenchman who has hit the ground running… on a loan to sign option. We secured that signing. He will win the EPL for us.

Christie, the best player at the 2nd best club in the country, is our player. He is a replacement for Armstrong who had become a squad player that could create and score goals. I’ll miss his song more than the player. Morgan, Arazani are options for Patrick Roberts.

I’m not impressed with not getting McGinn, natural replacement for Broony. Better box to box… could tackle, shoot, pass and score…. should have been in before better wages were offered.

We have 2 full backs who excelled at the World Cup yet were hounded… we signed cover for KT in a player that loves the club.

Boyata was a mystery… imo… we should have taken the 9 million. In saying that… I hope he looks at Moussas…. and BR… and what they are telling him…. sign son…. sign and it won’t be Fulham that comes for you… I do rate him… Comperr is a mystery….and finally… I really dislike the attitude of fans who’re are on young Jack Hendrys case… he is most definitely a player in the making. Young, tall, strong, fast, reads the game well…. but yep…. being young he’ll make the odd mistake when learning his trade…maybe more than a few as defenders usually take longer to mature. I’d also have had McKenna as he’s tough… and would help in the spl. Our bread and butter without which we don’t reach European football in this every crazed money fuelled world we live in.

I’m a fan… and a leftie… not a board man… but they are doing what the6 have to do in 2019. I wish Desmond would splash his billions to win the CL… I would… but what happened to the owner of Gretna that did that?

Support the team, the club, the board, the holy trinity…. there are many who want to put us down without the infighting within… I think I learned the phrase ‘iternine strife’ from CQN

We still have 2 days of window to go…. even without adding… we have enough strength to win the SPL…. for the 8th straight season. Stop the shit talk of 10…. and do one at a time.

Maybe we won’t be Invincible treble winners, it’s never happened before. Maybe we won’t be double treble winners….that’s never happened before either… even during the ebt years, although ‘they’ try to dismiss our fabulous achievements.

    Stand together… we are Celtic.

No matter what hysterics are going on,if true22 million profit is a fantastic bit of business for a guy who wants away, after a couple of years.A player who has dodgy injury record. We have no control over when other clubs will bid.

No doubt TBB will be preparing his ‘stockpiling money’ analysis

The first clue was in the giveaway CELTIC TV video about all the money, that was getting spent on the new floodlights and the new pitch.

Spend was to be rounded up with the John McGinn signing

We debated the swapping of Centre Backs that ‘couldn’t be coached’ back in the days of Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus plus ca change.

Never entered their minds to buy a CB until it all blew up when Jozo proved his unreliability, whilst Boyata was still at the world cup and returned reluctantly.

*and yet in the 1980 SC Final we were missing Tam and Roddy as well as back up Jim Casey, so we moved big Roy of the Rovers tae centre half and partnered him with inside forward Mike Conroy, not only that Danny was moved tae left back tae accommodate Alan Sneddon.

This is similar tae losing the wee mhan and the original Bear 11 years previously and playing a reserve centre half at outside right. We won both games.

    —————————

Not a happy clapper, but will be at Celtic Park backing the Celtic team and manager – suspect we will have plenty of extra legroom to stretch out in though.

However, the fact the very notion of a Boycott is being mentioned does show how much of a shambles this window has been so far.

I respect your suggested approach – Kevj would approve, and I’m not saying you are wrong.

  15. The only reason we have moussa, Eddie and oli is because we can show these top top prospects (as that’s all they are when we secure them) is because of our exceptionally well run business in an incredibly shit market (Spl). The fact we are selling our guys to top top clubs at a premium, is testimony to the guys running the business. Now I agree we are too risk adverse, but contrast and compare to our peers in the other Nordic / Belgium / Portugal etc nations. We are in bloody good and robust shape.

Yes I am pissed off we haven’t strengthened, but we all wished to be like Ajax, Porto et al… we are making the most of our market and if we levelled all our, we are doing fecking well.

Let’s not be drawn into the reactionary, knee jerk pish. We have the best squad by miles, and we need to regroup. Might be closer this year, I doubt it. The media are full of pish. This start for them is only better coz of Europe. Not much has changed really, we may be weaker (which is very short sighted and stupid imo) but we are the champs

  16. concerning that BR said he did not anticipate Moussa leaving in this window – actually ridiculous from a planning perspective. We know Moussa is in demand and should certainly have a few what-if scenarios to plan against!

I dont think BR is that stupid! I hope not. Maybe he is just wording in support of on going negotiation process.

Overall though – Celtic need to move a bunch of midfielders out, sell Boyata and Moussa, and hope we can scramble decent quality in before deadline.

    Negligent planning , typical Celtic!

I’m afraid with fans showing the same attitude let’s back the manager and the team then nothing will ever change.

As I said don’t moan when it goes tits up because this is definitely not helping because the board will say awk don’t worry about it the gullibillies will still spend their hard earned cash and turn up no matter what we do.

Yes, 1980 Final was especially difficult due to injuries but young MC was brilliant. Was kind of fitting when the final whistle blew and Latchford caught the ball over MC’s midrift.

Neither of the three players you mention would have come anywhere near Celtic if Brendan wasn’t here.To suggest the ‘only’ reason they are here is because we are a well run business is plain wrong.

  22. From HullBhoy

I have heard all I need to hear about Peter Lawwell.

He is a cracking politician in Scottish football.

But he fails every time when Celtic need to get stronger.

    Lawwell needs to go.

  23. Who would win a fight between Wim the man who stopped the 10 and Peter the man who stopped the 10?

  24. Yaya Toure said that he has agreed a deal to sign with a club that is a ‘Champion’. Toure previously stated he would happily sign with a club for £1 a week but that rules out Celtic as Peter Lawwell was only offering 65p.

In the sixties we never complained about the Willo Flood windae…that’s a recent thingy.

  26. Although most of us are disappointed re this transfer window. I can’t imagine anyone will be more disappointed than Brendan. His success here needs no description. Yet the board don’t back him?

It looks like they’re happy to reduce the gap between us and sevco to make it more competitive with the

ancillary benefit of stockpiling cash. The latter seems important to them but means nothing to me, I want to see the best players as possible play for our great club.

He speaks of a desire to make continuous improvements in all areas. If only our board had the same mantra.

  27. What happens if Brendan doesn’t get his targets ?

Does he sit at the back of the bus twirling his puppet string’s ?

    Or,…..

Does he walk out and, pull the house down as he goes, meaning that, we go into Sunday’s £49 Old Firm game with John Kennedy in charge ?

Also, did Dedryck not miss the 1st leg with Suduva, during his flounce, and if he did miss it, does that mean that he’ll be missing on Thursday night as well ?

Who would win, a jaikey, or one of the maukit faces fed by Bro. Walfrid’s Celtic Football Club ?

Final question, who would win, Celtic the football club 1888, or, Celtic the brand since 1994 ?
