Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan

Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.

You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds.  Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place.  The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.

This is where the manager earns his wages.  While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.

Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

    Malone Bhoy,

My thoughts exactly. Rodgers must surely have known and planned for this eventuality.

In fact Celtic should have stage managed Dembele sale if they didn’t qualify for the Champions League – he should have been our insurance after we speculated on either champions league qualification and or his sale or any one of the squad who could be replaced ( any one but Tierney or Brown!)

I just don’t believe for a minute there hasn’t been constant chatter on Dembele and a growing sense at the club that an offer was coming. This hasn’t been a cliff edge of happy player no pending offers it’s been daily updates on clubs manoeuvring to take a good player who we admitted was most likely to be sold.

If we hadn’t identified this likely outcome I don’t know what Rodgers Congerton and Lawwell have been doing?

So you have a £20m striker sitting there who you know you will sell. You start the transfer window knowing who your targets are. Time progresses and no one … not one person says just sign those targets we have Dembele there if it goes wrong? So you don’t sign Piccini ? McGinn? Don’t sort the Boyata situation? Don’t sell him cos you have no confidence of getting a replacement.

Armstrong, Roberts, Sviatchenko and now Dembele. Boyata could follow and since last season what net have we added?

  2. Disappointed to see JNP bale out. Always liked his posts and his civility.

I can see where he’s coming from regarding the way some posts/posters are dissed on here, especially ones critical of our world class boardroom. That just won’t do for some.

If your not going tomorrow because of the board or because we sold a player, you’ve not been following us for long have you?

I’m surprised that anyone is surprised.

It’s de Ja vu all over again.

Moussa Dembele was targeted during Ronny Diela’s tenure and lined up before Brendan Rodgers entered the building; VVD, Wanyama and Forster were similar projects. Celtic does have an attraction as as club to put young talent into the shop window: before, during and after Brendan Rodgers.

If Moussa does go, I wish him well. He was always a transient star but he did shine brightly when he was here!

  5. Can’t say I’m looking forward to tomorrow night or Sunday, you can’t help a late bid for MD but you should always have a back up plan. Lawell should be hounded out for this window. The Huns are supposedly signing another’s two tomorrow!!!!! We will hand out a few contract extensions and the board will treat it like signing a new player. Sick of it, made my travel plans for Sunday but am beginning to think what for

  6. I haven’t read back any posts but as nighttime thinking often does…. imagine this scenario of you will…

PL wants to snatch the £9 mill hand of Fulham for ‘bombscare Boyata…’

BR… in return knows the market and the players worth… “keep him, he’ll be a bigger asset than Moussa… I know this from what I’ve achieved in my life. £30/ 40 million guaranteed next year, give him the money from Moussa deal”

PL…. believing ‘bombscare, get him, get you out brigade’ says “no way…. sell him now”

We unstabilise a squad! Weaken a position that didn’t need destabilising and focus on an area more covered….. .. .

Could that be more truth of the matter?

Now we sit down… realise mistakes, still make EL… Still win the 8… despite Sunday…and strengthen and learn for next yEars CL?

Just a suggestion… I may be talking pash as a drunk fuelled informer once said to etims

  7. weebobbycollins on

Boardroom door now locked as Peter opens the biscuit tin…what we don’t yet know is…will he be taking money out or putting money in?

  8. This has been a terrible few weeks for us.

The blame lies squarely with PL and the board.

I think we can all see the utter contempt with which they hold us.

Don’t piss on us and tell us it’s raining.

    Feck them.

    Night all.

  9. One major concern if Moussa has gone is that tomorrow night the game may be overshadowed by hostility towards the Board and this could have a knock on effect on the team’s performance. So we may be shooting ourselves in the foot in more ways than one.

I see that PAOK Salonika’s away goal against Benfica in their 1-1 draw in Portugal didn’t do them much good losing 4-1 at home.

Red Bull Salzburg also out after drawing 2-2 at home, out on away goals

  10. If Moussa goes , good luck to him. He never made any noises about leaving , but prob made it clear that if a bid of over 20m came in from a big French club he should ask to leave

We knew he would leave sooner or later and any proper football CEO would have that as his trans We window plan

Instead we have mr lawell He has no interest in forward planning

His corporate failings are numerous to list

Enough failings to sack 5 CEO

Enough is enough. Go now lawell

  11. A right back???

Meanwhile, Celtic were were also linked with a move for Stoke right-back Mortitz Bauer.

The Austrian signed a five-year contract extension in July but has been on the Parkhead side’s radar as they look to get players in before Friday’s deadline.

The above may or may not be true. However i stick to my original point, the three French players wouldn’t have signed if Brendan wasn’t here IMO.

  14. On Moussa leaving…

“So there’s a lot to take in, but you certainly can’t let your top striker move on without even having anyone to come in and replace him“

  15. Good morning all,

Painful reading the last couple of days, so here’s some good news for a change.

Kenny Miller has signed a two-year deal with Dundee.

    Phew !

At least we know who won’t be Moussa’s replacement.

Fingers crossed that Celtic will do the business on the park tonight, and off it in the next 40 hours or so ( more confident of the ‘on the park’ stuff ).

P.S. If Moussa needs a lift to the airport, I’ve got the Jag all fuelled up.

    ????

  16. Who would win a fight between, an empty park, or a balance sheet ?

The biggest mistake that a Celtic supporter can make is to forget where they came from.

    HH

    Zzzzzzzzzzzz

  17. Who would win a fight between a club that can offer:

    Champions League football,

    4 times your salary,

    a superior quality league

    ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I think it is a case of remember where you came from, and realise the reality of where you are at now.

  18. Surely we can get a couple of decent signings over the line in the next 40hours.

If not then something is wrong at our club

    D :)

  19. B R knows M D has gone so what’s the point in saying you can’t sell your top striker until you have a replacement lined up? No point in rattling sabres now. Does anyone think there is a striker capable of leading the line that has somehow evaded the radar of the cash rich English clubs and is still available the day before transfer deadline day? And if there is not the board will halt Dembele’s sale?

Maybe Brendan believed he could build something more permanent here. That t trophies and C L football would be enough to keep the players, the board and the fans happy.

    Reality is biting hard today.

  20. Deniabhoy you are right about striker.

But there must be decent centre back and right back outs here .

  23. The Glib and Shameless Lawwell needs to go and he can take that Gallant Profiteer Desmond with him.

Sick to death of being taken for a ride.

  24. Lawwell must go now.

Rodgers will walk whether we win , lose or draw on sunday.

I heard Celtic initiated the Lyon , Marseilles bidding after CL exit ; no surprise suddenly two French clubs suddenly are bidding at same time for Mossa as his agents are ensconced in 1 Devonshire.

    Good luck to Moussa.

Absolute shambles for last 3 months——-bringing back a LB that was deeemed surplus to requirements.

  25. There is not much point in my continuing to post on CQN as I simply do not have the wealth of inside information, nor the expertise which outshines the professionals at Celtic Park, that so many others on here have.
