Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.
You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds. Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place. The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.
This is where the manager earns his wages. While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.
Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

AEK Athens – the £50m mistake.
Will those in charge of recruitment e we learn, or do the right thing and walk?
MARADOMINIC on 30TH AUGUST 2018 8:39 AM
I agree BR will leave after game on Sunday. Unless reality dawns on PL today. We have no decent CHs no RB that is fir (ML legs have gone) and BR doesn’t trust Gamboa or Ralston. Izzy brought back Not a BR signing. SB being less influential. ON looking to get out before Saturday. Kouassi? who knows what that’s about. SS given up. Which leaves an injury prone LG JF Rogic and McGregor. With one shining light OE up front.. That is our squad
…………………..
Having read the above, I’m away to slit my wrists.
Ever* learn
Just to change the subject for a moment, it’s all the injuries I can’t understand. I can’t remember a time when we have been plagued so much with injuries. Even if we didn’t sign anyone in the next couple of days, we would still have the strongest squad in Scotland, WHEN FIT!
I don’t know anything about training and fitness regimes but something seems wrong. Very few of our injuries are through tackles.
Slit your wrists….I forgot about johnny Hayes!
headlines you wont see on CQN today.
quiet on here today .
where is everyone.
is the blog broken.
have we signed anyone yet.
what a mug that KEV isnae.
Or is it ok on certain occasions??
Confused.
That’s the problem when posters start to try and put parameters in place as to how everyone should act/conduct themselves.
Comes across as a bit conceited TBH.

Good morning all from the Govanhill choir.
Neganon2
Hat and a balloon for you for those treble parties, what a supporter.
Did you raise a glass to Brendan Rodgers and the men who appointed him…..
I can never remember any unconditional celebratory posts from you after significant successes. It would always include some sort of criticism.
Like I say…..zero balance.
Not to worry. Someone will be on soon to clarify the guidelines.

Is the blog broken? :)))

Have we sold anyone yet?
Have we signed anyone yet?
Back later!
C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m going to kid myself and say there’s zero chance of BR walking away.
Two reasons:
One and most important, i think he has the best part of 3 years to run on his contract?Conservatively I would say that’s the best part of a guaranteed £4 million, probably more. He’s not leaving that on the table.
He may be sacked (and receive a pay off), be ‘mutually consented’ (and receive a pay off), or actively look for another club (resign from Celtic and move to another highly paid position where his new employer would pay any compensation due). He’s not walking away.
Second is professional pride. If he walks away it will be portrayed as running away……..from the challenge of Gerrard. This would follow him for the rest of career. I don’t think he would eant this.
So he will stay and look to move on at the end of the season ceteris paribus.
However, as I said yesterday, I do not believe Peter Lawell will survive this (assuming nothing transpires over the next 48 hours), so there’s as much chance of BR seeing out his contract than not.
Bhoys saying Brendan will leave after Sunday are in my opinion wide of the mark I believe he has three years on his current contract and he will honour the contract. He may very well after that decide to move on who knows managers move around nowadays as much as players. One thing I cannot understand is why Celtic are allways grasping around to sign players in the last days of the transfer window it would seem to be a very stressfull way to do business. H.H.

” the folly of selling your best talent without recruiting their replacements is equally self evident?”
So why do competent professionals follow such a path?
I really must go now.
Cheerio,
JJ
———
a) They’re a pursuing a different aim/KPIs where spending c.£10-12m on two new defenders and a midfielder to significantly enhance our chances of netting the much greater (double?) CL windfall is NOT seen as good business sense (despite already having recouped those potential transfer fees through earlier player sales)
b) They have deliberately adopted a recruitment policy that weakens and disrupts the squad and manager at a crucial point in the season, arguably the most significant in terms of revenue.
c) Like Lord Melchett in WW1 and Nick Leason-type rogue traders, they’re not actually anything like as smart and accomplished as they’d have us believe, despite the ‘there there’ platitudinal pats on the head they give out to supporters. ie they’re pure rockets at times, despite their sharp suits.

It’s c) btw
fINACIAL EXPERTS…. THEY ALWAYS SAY ON NEWS “FIGURES WERE HIGHER/LOWER THAN EXPERTS FORECAST” THEN THEY ARE NOT EFFIN EXPERTS… TAKE MONEY wether shares go up or down…… make millions in commission on a good deal ..lose nothing if a bad day.

“Down with this sort of thing” and careful now!”
Placards, cheers.

Can’t understand why you’re still on here…you vilify the host and have called CQN a farce.
Many posters are rightly fuming about this shambles of a transfer window but the difference with you and many others is your lack of balance.
You cannot enjoy good times like double trebles, CL qualification and hun skelpings and never issue a celebratory post.
So your vitriol in turbulent times like right now has to be seen in that context.
Absolutely nailed it Tully57
Well said Sir!
They are all out now
“Celtic trying to let the Hun win the league.”
“Brendan willl resign after the Hun game”.
The Hun version of Monaghan will be having a ball pasting these quotes all over Hun media sites.
Only sensible words today coming from Brendan about the Moussa situation. He understands it.He knows there is nothing we can do about it.It will happen every two years.Thats the nature of the job managing a team in Scotland. We are a stepping stone .We know this.Anyone denying this fact is deluding themselves.
THE NEXT 4 DAYS
Thursday
I do not expect any news today as tonight’s result will have an impact on our business
Only the usual speculation (which I love)
I expect/ hope/pray we win/qualify for EL
Friday
Chaos all day – ranging from no one in no one out to MD and/or DB leave and/or 1/2/3/4 new players come in
Saturday
Asses reality as we know at this point we have what we have in terms of players BUT depending on the two previous days I hope/pray that BR is in good spirits
Sunday
Regardless of previous 3 days Hump the Huns
67ECW

H.H
TULLY 57,
Been saying thesame about Neganon for years.A trumpet of dissent.Never heard when we are winning.Really glad others can see it.
TURKEYBHOY:
Fair point, but can you explain why it should happen (if it does) with one day left in the window?
IniquitousIV
TURKEYBHOY:
Didn’t realize you had multiple posts. My question related to your 10:47 missive.
IniquitousIV
Staying away until the window closes now.
C,mon the Hoops tonight.
Things that need to happen before the window closes
New midfielder to cover Stuart Armstrong loss (Douglas Lima preferred but maybe Nick Powell)
Boyata Out and replaced with a new CB (The lad from Le Havre sounds good)
Dembele replaced by another striker (maybe Solanke)
OR
Dembele and Boyata stayand we sign new midfielder.
Guys, I don’t think Brendan will leave this season. Mistakes have been made in the transfer window but he said in his media conference yesterday that he’s coming to the end of his “first cycle” as Celtic coach. That to me implies he’ll try to create the next version of his team. I wonder if cycle two will be on a shoestring budget or if the board will back him this time.
We shall thrash Sudafed and the rancid hordes of Hades. Lurking huns put that in yer pipe and ram it up yer erchie.
INIQUITOUS IV,
I really fail to see what we can do about clubs bidding for our players at this late stage.Brendan did say himself, that any incomings would now be done later in the window. We are cursed with playing in this league,in Scotland. It really is a last resort for many players with no ties to our club.
Bigrailroadblues
Or alternatively Sudova knock us out
Stevie Gee express train hammers us on Sunday
Brendan Rodgers resigns on Monday
Mark McGhee is appointed on Tuesday
Peter Lawwell receives a knighthood
