Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan

635

Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.

You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds.  Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place.  The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.

This is where the manager earns his wages.  While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.

Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

  1. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

I appreciate that well intentioned post, however, a lot of it is whataboutery. No one is claiming that we can compete with the EPL (no other leagues can) or the big boys throughout Europe.

But considering the situation we are in currently on its merits, I fail to see how PL or the board escapes criticism. We have had record turnover, record profit, we have made a net gain on sales in the last 6 months given VVD, Armstrong and Sviatchenko money. The manager wanted to strengthen; we haven’t even replaced players that left.

We have committed the same error in that we did not strength in anticipation of a difficult CL campaign. Of course spending would not guarantee qualification, however, if you do not believe that spending money improves the team then you evidently agree with LNS logic? I doubt that is the case, as if it is, then Oldco obtained no sporting advantage.

We can all accept that Moussa would leave at some stage and that was indeed in the plan. Great business, provided monies are re-invested. However, it is the manner in which it is transpiring. After a summer of transfer window inertia, we compound our issues by selling Moussa? (of course, he is not gone yet). That is why it has elicited the reaction online.

Our support of Celtic is not conditional on success, but that does not mean we are unable to criticise and critique such obvious mismanagement in the board room. We have £30m in the bank and negligible debt yet we cannot spend. Why? Why are we so hamstrung?

People argued under MON that debt was unsustainable and we could not spend more. Under other managers we did not have the reserves to spend and to speculate to accumulate was imprudent. What was the argument this window? The pandora’s box of excuses is running low.

Always good to criticise, but the critics on here of board/management should get together and take over Celtic to run the club as they see fit. Not just the football part.

I think that the sum total of the efforts to effect the change that we’re told every day is essential is a load of posts on someone else’s blog says a lot. And it’s not like it’s changed other Celtic supporter’s views on the blog either, elsewhere in cyber Tim land CQN is seen as being staunchly pro-board.

  3. Please pray for my brother in law who has been in hospital since Saturday. My sister broke down tonight with me. After putting up a brave face. She is in bits.

Please please pray for them both.

  4. Does anyone believe that if we receive circa £22 mill for Moussa (should he leave) that every penny will be reinvested in the 1st team squad not the club but ‘THE TEAM’ as is should be? No I didn’t think so.

I wonder if they’ll give Shane Long Moussa’s squad number?

Selling our prize asset with two days of the transfer window left, just so Lawwell can trot out the “we ran out of time ” shite is gross negligence. As is attempting to qualify for the CL with no defence, two years on the trot. Lawwell’s position is untenable.

  6. GLORIOUS….

Have you have enjoyed 7 in a row and the double treble? Are you looking forward to 10 in a row by Celtic?

  7. We should buy before we sell, when we know we have willing bidders, any clubs now will ramp up the prices as we are deemed to be in panic mode.

  9. Looking at Celtic`s record over the last seven years, I believe fans of other teams would be amazed at the reaction of so many Celtic fans to that success.

    Goodnight.

What odds are Shane Long FGS for Sunday?

    ==

More importantly what are the odds on Brendan leaving at the end of the season, if not sooner?

  11. Meanwhile on a golf course far, far away a mustachioed absentee landlord who hasn’t attended a formal board meeting in over a decade (because his man is running the place the way he likes it) doesn’t give a fudge…

Aye, Lawwell deserves grief – a lot, like, a lot a lot, a few hundred dumper trucks worth – but the Great Desmondo has been the man sanctioning the plan.

You’re posting more frequently than normal and you’re ‘upset’ about football and the transfer market “fiasco’?

Your favourite Blogger has an admittedly entirely different stance, from you.

But he’s a gentleman, and so are you – I believe?

Sorry to hear your sad news mate, will say a wee prayer at the Kloster Mariastein tomorrow, a place of quite refuge in a crazy world…

  14. The many critics on here of the Celtic board/management should get together, put money in, and buy out Desmond etc. Easy.

  15. Wonder if the Green Brigade will have another banner attacking a player in a Celtic shirt or will they go for the real problem this time?

It is not a reaction to that success. It is a reaction to failure to build on that success.

Are you honestly happy with the backing Brendan has received this summer in his efforts to improve our team and squad?

There was always a likelihood that Moussa would go on this window if our valuation of him was met and it was a team he wanted to go to. The recruitment team (incl manager) would have been aware of this and would have a list of replacements ready to hand to the money men to go sign in the event he left. That’s how a well run club operates, isn’t it?

Lawwell will point to Edouard. Brendan will receive a fraction of the fee, to be spent on a project or a loan.

The Celtic directors must be hoping that they can get £50k people just like you. For then they can do whatever they want, treat people with contempt and will not face a word of criticism.

Being loyal and being taken advantage is a fine line.

Of that there is no doubt.

Record transfer fee received, record transfer fee spent, balance banked to make up for no CL.

I think the last person to claim to be in Basil was Manuel. Ooo err Señor Fawlty ?

While Switzerland has four official languages, the most common language spoken in Basel is Swiss German. However, it’s very simple to get around the city and communicate easily, if you speak English or French.
