Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan

635

Managers often have the task of focussing players’ attention on the next game, instead of an important subsequent game a few days later, but Brendan Rodgers has an additional task in this respect right now.

You only need to speak to a fellow Celtic fan this week to understand what’s on all of our minds.  Two games over the next four days will make a significant impression on the season, but there is no certainty what the squad will look like when the second match takes place.  The closure of the transfer window in a little over 48 hours will loom just as large as Sunday’s league encounter with Newco.

This is where the manager earns his wages.  While tomorrow’s game against Suduva should present a straightforward challenge, you and I remember another Scottish team, no longer with us, going out of Europe to Lithuanian opposition just months after competing in the Uefa Cup Final.

Get them ready to run through walls for you, Brendan.

  1. Ron. It is simple.

    Get money.

    Give money to manager.

If you don’t trust manager fire manager.

    Hire new manager.

    Start over.

This all smacks of bad planning.

Genuine question – do Celtic need a director of football? I remember asking the same question when MON was manager.

Good coaches are not necessarily the best planners. Fingers crossed that I have misread the situation…

That’s a shame I apologise to sound sneering when I comment on negativist CQN’rs whom you, or I know not.

I don’t object to negativists in general ( I even like NegAnon ) as his heart is in the right place , and he has a grasp of the dreaded balance sheet, that I don’t . So long as they can show their Celtic credentials or even their identity, which the internet conveniently shrouds, no matter how ‘Timmed Up’ their moniker appears.

I also value the posters that wear their hearts on their sleeves and ‘ go to the game ‘ some home and away as I don’t do away games

I think we’ve lost more happy clappers than mine shafters in this window than in the Willo window, but they’ll all come back, so long as Paul67 can operate their platform, even, if its to vent.

CQN’rs know me, and I value the weight of contribution to Celtic on here, never met a CQN’er that wasn’t nice, but I’ve seen some well dodgy posts on here, and I’m sure you have.

    Again, apols

    Hail Hail

  4. From L’Equipe earlier today:

Jean-Michel Aulas has also confirmed to have initiated discussions with Celtic Glasgow for Moussa Dembélé, as indicated on our website Monday evening. “It’s true that we are interested, admits the Rhone leader. We contacted the player. He is interested. As the end of the transfer window approaches, it’s complicated for Celtic even though he was eliminated from the Champions League. We discuss seriously. But we come across a hell of a customer, Peter Lawwell (club president) since I know him well, when he defends his interests, it’s complicated. A kind of bulldog who negotiates after barking. He’s a great guy but very difficult in the negotiation. “Aulas said with a smile that he had” read in the press that OM was also interested “but understand that” it’s more complicated for them”.

  5. Big wavey sorry but bull.

He has a few years of his contract to go and all we needed to see is he is not for sale (even Aberdeen seem capable of that) and then you trot out the same old nonsense bloated squad projects last minute deals. Bullshit bingo.

    It’s the same old show.

    Some of you are fools……..

  6. i'vehadtochangemymind on

Trouble is when you skim our quality off the top, we’re not great or we have to mess with JF and SS, TR etc. and move them out of position so we don’t quite click. I get it! We can’t afford to pi** in an EPL pot so we have to recruit from sub-prime markets and hope we come up good. I get it! We have to sell when we come up good to get money in, to keep it all going. I also get it that we are not very good when you take away those players who are significantly better than the EPL.

  7. “We keep saying it but we want to come out every transfer window stronger than we’ve gone in.”

How’s that one working for you, Peter?

Never mind, David Murray will be sine died.

    Oh, well, that’s fine then.

And, BTW, Celtic players need to be told to run through brick walls for the manager.

    FFS!

    Incredible.

So , L’equipe tells us that Moussa is away.

    NYE BEVANS’ REBEL SOLDIER

Many thanks. have a heavy heart tonight. It’s almost as if our board are worried we get too far ahead of Sevco. I reckon it’s nearly time for the rebels to get organised again.

  10. So let’s get this straight.

    1. Brendan asks for 3 signings and only gets 1.

    2. Brendan says we need to bring fresh quality in to keep improving the squad.

    3. The board fail Brendan with signings & we lose out to qualifying for the CL group stages.

    4. The board want to sell Dembele because we didn’t qualify for the CL group stages yet they didn’t back a treble winning manager two years in a row with the quality signings he needed this year.

    5. We may lose out on Dembele with two days to go in the transfer window.

    6. No replacement for Armstrong or Roberts.

Honest to f**k get these imposters out of my club.

Message to the board apologists don’t even try and dress this up it’s a total disgrace.

Could all the board haters tell us how they would run the enterprise that is Glasgow Celtic.

    ——–

I think the idea is that instead of selling players who want to leave for decent money then using the money to replace them, it’s better to keep them until their contract expires, lose them for nothing and have them being a disruptive influence in the dressing room in the meantime. Of course there’s no money to replace them but nobody will want to come anyway as they have seen how you treated the last guy. Not too sure what happens next…..

  15. the glorious balance sheet on

I’ve been reading this website for 13 years.

In that time I’ve read lead articles that criticised the team, individual players, the manager, a section of the Celtic fans, UEFA, the SFA, the SPFL, the media and players agents.

But I’ve never once read a lead article in those 13 years that criticised the plc board or the CEO.

    Strange that.

  18. 19.26 Sky Transfer Centre

    Real Madrid have ‘re-signed striker

Mariano Diaz from Lyon for £33m

on a five -year deal just a year after

    Selling the player for £7.2m.

    Last season he scored

21 goals in 45 appearances across

    all competitions for the

    French Club .

    the plot thickens .

  19. There’s no doubt that making £22 million pounds profit on a player is a great piece of business if seen as a one off. It is not, however, a great piece of business if you fail to invest in the squad and failure prevents you from qualifying for the EL and possibly prevents you from winning the league and a further crack at CL qualification. I hope that answers your question Ron.

The next 48 hours could be season defining – over to you Celtic.

Most of the football pundits were correct when they said nobody in Scottish football can compete with Celtic – in the financial stakes. The football stakes may be a different matter.

  20. bournesouprecipe on 29th August 2018 7:41 pm

No apologies necessary. I know you’re frustrated at some of the vitriol but Celtic’s an emotional issue for people on here and I can understand the attacks on those outwith and in the club that people perceive to be doing us damage. I’ve went from believing we’d cruise both our next two games, to being a tad cocerned. IF Moussa goes, think of the boost to the opposition when he doesn’t run out to face them. The huns are s**t scared of him.

As everyone knows, I am not a fan of our Board … primarily for how its has treated the fans.

However, I do try to be fair …. the transfer window has not closed. We all had a pretty strong sense that MD would go…. so I suspect that the Board have also had time to consider this, and have several options to replace him now that he has gone …. lets see what happens.

going with just LG and OE would be a risk… but, on this issue at least, I am prepared to hold fire, and see if a reasonable replacement for MD is brought in before the window closes …

  24. The Huns will be totally bemused.

While the calendar says August, our transfer wheelings and non dealings must mean it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas at their end of town.
