Getting buy-in from senior players

1079

Delighted to see Brendan Rodgers is down to business at Lennoxtown, three weeks before the players return for preseason training. It’s interesting that he arranged an early opportunity to meet Scott Brown over a meal, and that this was made public.

Getting buy-in from senior players was one aspect of the job Ronny Deila allegedly didn’t achieve. The rights and wrongs of this can wait for Ronny’s autobiography, although you may wish to express an outsider’s opinion. All that matters to Brendan is that no one is able to speculate about the same issue on his watch.

There’s not much a manager can do three weeks before training starts than eat dinner with the captain, scout players and watch videos. I expect Brendan to have seen every minute of every Celtic game last season by the time players get back; there is lots to learn. In particular, what went wrong at the back to a team which broke defensive records in each of the previous two campaigns. You may wish to express an outsider’s opinion.

Those in the know warned us that blue collar crime is particularly difficult to prosecute, and so it’s transpired. Only Craig Whyte now faces trial in the Rangers fraud case, which saw remaining charges against Duff and Phelps’ administrators David Whitehouse and Paul Clark dropped at the High Court in Glasgow this morning. It’s far from a satisfactory outcome.

Good to hear the losing Scottish Cup final manager, who was left with some bears in Japanese forest for seven days by his parents, has been found safe and well, even if he has nothing to say for himself.

One day our stars will meet.

    Kikinthenakas jumped out the same

page that you did yesterday, a couple

of years ago, again a measure of the

quality of folf who inhabit this place.

    But – it’s almost embarrassing

to convey that I canny afford a season

ticket any more, on here, in case folk think that

I’m trying to cadge ?….That is not happening.

Now, I know that this place can produce unprecedented

levels of Magic now, and again but, I’m also aware

that here are a handful on here who think that

I was at it with my cancer scares last year and,

and earlier on this year….that’s all btw.

2 reasons why going to the fitba is difficult

    for me…..

    1. Canny afford a season ticket anymore.

    2. I’m waiting to hear back from the hospital

to see if I’ll need to get a walking stick cause of my hip.

    But,……..

I know that it’s this place that lets the

sun come out – it’s been out since the

    arrival of Brendan btw :)

    An omen ?

    Hopefully.

Being a natural worrier, I conjure up all

the possible trap doors that could be lying

in wait for Brendan at the back of my mind.

One thing that he has to realize very quickly

is that, as soon as you become a Celt, you must

be aware that you can ‘never’ be paranoid enough !

    Never !

My wife says that I could afford a season ticket but,

I know that she’d be prepared to cut off her nose to

spite her face just to get me to go to see the Cellic again.

If I have to get a stick, that means losing my job then, I’ll

need to nip BlantyreTim’s heid to see what way I would turn then ? :)

Time to put the violin away.

  6. Bobby

    Sad news indeed.

Not sure why, but as a teenager when Ali was at his peak, I always wanted smokin’ Joe to win. Great rivalry. I think I liked Joe’s underdog status and his street fighting style as opposed to Ali’s masterful boxing style.

No doubt though that Ali was the master craftsman .

Ali, Frazier, Foreman,Norton. When boxing was at its magnetic best.

Compare and contrast some of their battles to the more recent lump of wood v plank of wood that was Klitchko v Fury.

Worst boxer I recall for “lump of wood” was Gary Mason. Slowest mover in the ring ever.

    Also sadly dead,btw.

  9. Bobby

Gary Mason. I met him. Late 80’s I reckon. I walked into a bar and he had his back to me. I remember thinking that the guy had the biggest neck I’d ever seen.

Only when he turned around I realised who he was. I’m sure he was unbeaten at the time, in fact I think he only ever lost to Lennox Lewis. Yes, not the quickest on his feet.

Chatted to him for about 10 minutes. He seemed a decent enough guy based on that 10 minutes.

    Had his problems later certainly.

    Parkrun.

I only started it a couple years ago when I was trying to get fit. Was running a pedestrian 27-28 minutes.

Slowly started knocking a few secs off here and there.

    Got to 23min 39secs.

    Then…………

Some eejit changed the course. It now incorporates an uphill finish akin to the last 3 furlongs at Hamilton Park.

As I don’t really train for 5k, preferring off road and hill running, I just use it now as a training run and don’t even start my watch!

I’ll lumber round now in 25 minutes or so and be happy with that.

    Enjoy?

Interesting use of the word :-)

I feel great after a run, but doing it , not so much:-)

On the parkrun you need to be doing 7min 25 miling or so for the 3.2 miles to hit the 23 min mark.

On the hill runs I run 6-7 miles, BUT, much slower miling.( mind you I can run DOWN the Wrekin like the roadrunner:-))

Anyone whose ever run down it will tell you how easy that is:-))

My starting run was just mid january, ambled round in 45 mins…………(yes, I know)

Rapid improvement with little training as you say has me down to the pedestrian 28 mins………

………….our course is part Eiger Sanction to be fair…………even the Club runners walk up that bit.

Since starting I’ve got back into the fives as well – but always end up injured……….calf and hammy perennial problems……….

The times are secondary as you allude to. It’s the benefit that’s important. 28 min from 45 is remarkably good progress.
