Getting buy-in from senior players

1079

Delighted to see Brendan Rodgers is down to business at Lennoxtown, three weeks before the players return for preseason training. It’s interesting that he arranged an early opportunity to meet Scott Brown over a meal, and that this was made public.

Getting buy-in from senior players was one aspect of the job Ronny Deila allegedly didn’t achieve. The rights and wrongs of this can wait for Ronny’s autobiography, although you may wish to express an outsider’s opinion. All that matters to Brendan is that no one is able to speculate about the same issue on his watch.

There’s not much a manager can do three weeks before training starts than eat dinner with the captain, scout players and watch videos. I expect Brendan to have seen every minute of every Celtic game last season by the time players get back; there is lots to learn. In particular, what went wrong at the back to a team which broke defensive records in each of the previous two campaigns. You may wish to express an outsider’s opinion.

Those in the know warned us that blue collar crime is particularly difficult to prosecute, and so it’s transpired. Only Craig Whyte now faces trial in the Rangers fraud case, which saw remaining charges against Duff and Phelps’ administrators David Whitehouse and Paul Clark dropped at the High Court in Glasgow this morning. It’s far from a satisfactory outcome.

Good to hear the losing Scottish Cup final manager, who was left with some bears in Japanese forest for seven days by his parents, has been found safe and well, even if he has nothing to say for himself.

Reports suggesting Arsenal are prepared to pay the £20 million release clause for Jamie Vardy. I’m not sure I can see him fitting into a Wenger team.

PS… Don’t let the kids watch, as even Acgr thought it was a bit risqué.

Oh well, that’s me killed the blog… All off to watch Peaky Blinders :)))

  13. I accidently turned on SSB tonight and the fat gardner was mentioned, he was interviewed and he said that he had been in the short list for a couple of championship jobs, aye they were down south, or so he said, and they lapped it up, Keevins was superb btw, he was telling the world that the fat man was a top manager cos the cardigan said he was, I dread to think who will suffer at his hands next, but if they take him on they deserve all they get, fools.

A recent plethora of good UK TV have all come to an end (Shetland, Line of Duty, Marcella, Undercover) so Peaky Blinders will hopefully satisfy both of us over the coming weeks ;-)

  15. Only four teams have won the European Cup and the domestic double in the same season, can you name them without researching?

Off the top of my head, (the answers that is not me personally).

Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Celtic!

  17. Obviously, the famous (Glasgow) Celtic were the first but two teams from the same country have done it since and a truly British team as well.

There’s no doubt that Steven Knight has used historically accurate incidents and brought them into his drama. But the low-life street gang that was the Peaky Blinders had nothing to do with that. Rolling drunks, petty theft and the usual gang brawling was about the height of their ambition and vision.
