God love (and save us from ) Packie Bonner

God love Packie Bonner, spend “£20m to £30m to bring those quality players the fans are desperate for”.

There are two opposing world views: one where people call for unaffordable money [those figures would be]to be spent because fans of a football club are “desperate”, the other where people want football clubs to spend what they can afford.

The latter group remember football’s crash-and-liquidate days – and learned the lessons. The former also remember the crash-and-liquidate days, but they are impervious to lessons.

We can debate what the size of an affordable spend is, but a couple of parameters have to be observed:

If it increases the cost base to such an extent that a reversal on the field would plunge the club into financial disarray, it’s unaffordable.

Players need to be appropriate for the environment – with neighbouring clubs earning £100m each season from TV deals, only players of a certain profile will play for a club with a considerably smaller wage bill (and turnover).

We live in a time when Scots Steven Naismith went for £8.5m (1 goal in 9 starts) and Ross McCormack went for £11m. These are common values for this calibre of player. We all want Celtic to improve, but that will not be achieved by spending unsuitable or unaffordable money. Packie, think back to Valentine’s Day 2012 and add a dose of perspective.

Get better at scouting, get fitter, improve the coaching – and spend everything you can afford, not any more.  That’s the model for Celtic.

  1. Jerry cornelious. So that’s it. Big Pete gets a million quid a year just to make sure we don’t go bust?

    Wow what an achievement. Amazing

I mean other clubs like, err Patrick thistle and Alloa and the like manage that amazing feat too. Do you think their CEOs should get a million quid a year too.

Totally amaze balls that the board manage that.

Good in any other job but sfa refs you would be sacked for incompetence.

  3. So Campbell Ogilvie was a UEFA delegate in the Bayern vs Athletico match ? The game is bent from top to bottom.

Enjoy the panto boys n girls I’m out for good & won’t spend another penny on this farce.

It is hard to believe that that decision was anything other than cheating by Muir. He had a ringside seat and still did not give it.

  5. Praising Lawwell and paying him a million quid is beyond ridiculous Jerry.

Celtic are being run into the ground by a corrupt board that’s up to its neck in the cheating within Scottish football.

A million quid just to make sure you don’t go out of business eh.

Jerry did you like my idea about charging for the paper towels in the looks at cp? That might keep the lights on eh?

Well stated, historically and morally accurate.

There has been some amount of unresearched and ill read piffle spouted on here today. Sadly and unfortunately, the belly rumbling seems to make the most noise. Does not make it right though.

    Empty Vessel and all that,

I do harbor some of the same worries are you neg as I believe we are not being told the entire story, until we know more its just speculation and conjecture. Lets wait and see. I have said it all along, there is too much money involved for the whole thing to be swept under the carpet.

Dundee Utd have fallen a long way in 2 seasons. A long way. NO money been reinvested in the team and MIxu was a bad signing. Panics too much and has very big mouth. Utd should still have the players to beat the drop. Bad decisions.

Look forward to the AGM when people who believe that the Board is corrupt can go along and tell them to their faces. May need a bigger venue. Perhaps the SECC. Should be fun. HH

Watching Hibs tonight, a couple of thoughts, with poorer players they play a more attractive, but less effective game than us. Stokes isn’t good enough for us, and Muir is as poor as we expect, incompetent or a cheat?

We’ll see, seemingly interviews are taking place just now. Much like the last time, Keane’s PR/Agent has leaked the Club have spoke with him and that’s why the bookies have suspended betting on him, He will be the only person to come out publicly and state he has been contacted but that doesn’t mean its him. Keane likes to be in the limelight and that’s another reason i aint that bothered if it’s not him.

We would never have had that semi-final “performance” against govan wanderers under Keano.

*Watching the Church of Our Lady of Compassion Sporting Wing v manure and as the teams emerged from the tunnel with Noble and Rooney looking cool, calm and composed even amidst the ferocious atmosphere my mind wondered back approximately 11 years to a similar scene in the Highbury tunnel when Roy Keane had a go at Patrick Vieira after he bullied Gary Neville.

In a match that the arse was favoured to win manure beat them 4-2. I have no doubt the tunnel incident played a big part on that result.

I can also recall wee bammy hiding fae Keano. He’ll do for me.

I think i would prefer him to any of the big names Jerry. Might be a perfect partnership. We’ll see. I just think the big names all look destined to be an anti climax for one reason or another, But I was excited at the prospect of Ronnie, So what do I know. ;)

    5 way agreement involvement

    Rs12 inaction

Saying nothing about the LNs stuff (apart from we are surprised)

    Campbell ogilvie reflected unopposed

Murray and King passed fit for purpose by sfa board (with Lawwell on board)

Celtic drooling over the Rangers fc stuff and participating in the big lie.

    Evidence enough for you?

*so was I, well the concept.

  19. An teach I know what you mean about the agm. I mean just for raising a motion against a director the chairman of Celtic accused Celtic supporters of being criminally racist. Wow what would they do if confronted by their own cheating.

Well the Bairns of Falkirk must be favourite after Hibernian not being given a stonewall penalty could only draw 2-2 Liam Henderson had a decent game but for me Stokes was poor.H.H.

  22. Yip, 2 season ticket renewals in today, with 17 days to decide

    Big decision

Do I continue to accept, the FtSFA decisions like our board do, and like them do nothing ?

Bryson decision on player registrations, you know those administrative errors, like forgetting to declare full contracts

Changes in LNS enquiry to hide declared illegal contracts – oh yes our Board were surprised by that

Tonev ban with no collaborative evidence

    Res 12 facts

    Need I go on ?

Accept all this and sit continue to fund such

I then look at how my club is being run into the ground with incompetence

Will take my time on any decision, but probably pay as I go

  23. Scottish football now believes that moving your hand to the ball and moving it in he penalty box is not a penalty dos you can’t prove he deliberately handled.

A bit like that semi final you can never prove a deliberate handball ever ever ever……….

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Roy Keane put in a Brilliant performance that night. He was pumped up big time, it never showed during that game though, he was coolness personified – I’m sure there were a few thinking he’d get sent off. As you say, the mind games had Arsenal beat in the tunnel.

Roy will have learned a lot from Martin as well. This current SMSM are vile scumbags and Martin will give him invaluable info, if he gets asked and if he said yes. He worked incredibly hard to become as good as he became, the right philosophy for the youngsters coming through at Lennoxtown.

A thumbs up from me if it happens.
