Great finals and the rebirth of Scottish football

1214

I am sure you have many great Scottish Cup final memories.  For me the best was Airdrieonians, twice.  My earliest memory of attending a final was the 1975 win, Kenny Dalglish, Paul Wilson and Pat McCluskey.  Watched big Billy and Jinky emerge from Hampden with the trophy after the game.

Then, of course, there was that huge final in 1995.  Six years without a trophy, Celtic were at their lowest point in decades and had already lost a final to Raith Rovers that season.  Beating Airdrieonians in that final is one of the most important victories in Celtic history.

By any measure, apart from Scottish Cups, Hibs are the fifth biggest team in Scotland, yet they haven’t won the Cup in 110 years.  Since then the Wright brothers headed to Kitty Hawk and tried to get ‘Flyer’ off the ground for the first time in history and Teddy Rosevelt made history by becoming the first US president to ride in a motor car.

If they can pull a good 90 minutes together today, Hibs might become the first club in Scottish footballs’ rebirth.  They have reclaimed thousands of fans in recent weeks and are proof that there is life outside Glasgow.

Good luck to them.

Good luck to Chelsea FC on their success tonight,

Does not affect me in any way.

I have no other concerns than those which relate to the famous Glasgow Celtic.

MY TEAM are going along just beauifully.

    God Bless every Celtic man.

    .

  2. So you aren’t worried that a team can buy the biggest trophy in football with oil money, and for your team Celtic to compete well, well they can’t compete anymore.

Hmmmmm.Don’t really wish to think about that,it’s in the past, over…the huns done themselves in anyway,in the long run.Maybe Desmond, and Lawwell were merely giving them enough rope to hang themselves? – throwing a sprick to catch a whale so to speak, who knows?

I wonder if Lawwell had asked Desmond for the cabbage to but Fletcher, would Desmond have refused? Somebody took a gamble on that one,and it didn’t pay off.

Me,personally – i blame our manager at the time – a total incompetent, whom could not have been trusted to spend money in Poundstretcher.

Your point has some validity amigo. If you forgive me adding to it….the people of Germany are rightly ashamed of their role. Sadly, other intrusive and despotic countries such as Britain and the States are still in full operation so the period of shame is a long way off, no matter how overdue, and so the peoples are still much fooled. When you consider this, Germany has acknowledged its wrongs and moved on for the good of all, Russia still struggles to find a decent government and so the people are still stuck in poverty, same again for China etc, meantime, the most backward are the UK and the USA. Invasive, aggressive countries with a population divided between a minority of anti war protesters, and a majority of intellectual, over-educated apathetics, and right wing hysterical misguideedly patriotic lunatics. Feck, i’ve just had a rant. I may fall asleep shortly :))

assumin that’s for me?… I’ve been watching us cheated out of wins since I can first remember. The malicious influence you’re talking about is looking likely to be fixed a lot more quickly than the one on the domestic front, hun new company or not.

We will see. We will see when it comes to the way Celtic behave to Newco.

You missed the point as all blind Tims do especially the Irish ones.

yes BTM was a looser. A PL fall guy. A mistake. Martin and Lenny were not.

Martin abandoned Celtic coz the Irish bored wouldn’t fund him. Not that

he cared about the nationality of his funders. Martin’s ego was not the issue

Its the donuts that we should be concerned about. That’s not a uniquely Irish phenomenon as Aston Villa found out and Sunderland will.

I dont care about Chelsea either. It was just a matter of time that a London EPL club won the champions league.

  10. Fortunes Favour Mibbes on

    Mags,

Come on….I still laugh when you refer to him as the Donut :)) Would the Celtic Support welcome him spreading his sugar a bit more to make us more competitive?

  11. Tonight the Champions league (not european cup) became a cup competition like the Scottish cup or FA cup. You dont have to be the best team to win it.

Give Chelsea a wee bit if credit they put out lots of better teams than them but they would kill football. I think their owner actually would be happy they won tonight but I actually believe he wants to win it in a good way and tahts why he has changed managers so often. He could have kept Mourinho but he did not like the football style they played.

In the modern era only Porto (2004) & Ajax (1995) did not “buy” the big cup. Chelsea this year are no different to Barcelona last year. Yes the style of football was different but typical English in the same vein as Forest and Villa.

With the utmost respect Margaret – I just think that Celtic are magnificent – it’s got nothing to do with Ireland,England, huns or Chelsea…Celtic are my team, and it’s always been that way.

And i put my money where my mouth is – it’s easy for anybody to come on here and spout nonsense,”we are gonna beat this, that or the other” – but i put it down Margaret, and i post my bets on here…not to boast that i was right,or boast that i have won money – nobody ever sees the bets that i have on Celtic that lost, and their have been plenty – i do it because i believe we can beat any team.

I will say this, hand on heart – i always get my money back, betting on us to win.

They cheated their way out of existence via cash so let them die.

No one needs their money coz they dont have any anyway

There is no need for Celtic to vote on any Newco sh#t!

  19. There have been many disappointing finals over the years. Wins like Celtic 67, Porto 87 & Milan 94 are few and far between.

I believe he has and players like Josh McEachran are coming through but whether he has the appetite to wait on the next layer is another debate.

Outside our golden years (Lions, Quality street, early 80’s) we seldom get many players coming through our youth set up together

    Hopefully we do now

Maybe you are correct – if Desmond declared war on them, then none of this would matter.

    It’s not our fault.

Its frustrating as we’ve had decent mhen to do so. Again, I read here I think someone commenting on how we always had a good youth structure, but due to the malicious Minty millions we had to invest in maturity under MON. It was a point that seemed to make a lot of sense. To quickly turn things around, we had to neglect the youth setup and direct the cash at the first team on a quick win basis. It gets more interesting when you consider WGS limited spending while Lenny was there, and then Lenny working in the youth set up under BTM. Now Lenny has shown he has the ability to find young players and bring out the best of them. Interesting times ahead for a club that has not found that balance since the 60s and 70s. :))

I believe we are at a stage in Scottish football where every team will now allow Youth to flourish apart from maybe 1 team and thats us.

It sounds daft but will dominate the game here and our outlook will be Europe. Watching tonight you dont need the best players you need the best system.

At the end of the game tonight they put on the Chris Sutton dvd in our club. Outside of the lions that is the strongest squad we have had but MON only ever played 1 youngster regularly.

Football is results driven but no one can say the best team in Europe is the third best team in London

  31. Fortunes Favour Mibbes on

    Greenlion2

Aye, possibly, but am still positive. Lenny’s a team developper, knows the youngsters, and knows his team structures. This is the right mhan to have in charge at this time, and he knows it himself. This is a long term thing. A lot to be positive about imo. We’ve also proved already we could easily make 5-10M profit a season on player transfers, and this is only the start. Directing a lot of finance at scouting and youth training will see us leaping ahead in the next 5-10 years. Now I’m not a naturally positive thinker, but I’ve a good feelinf about this :))

We need to fill that stadium for these two home games in the qualifiers.

How close we came against Udinese & Athletico Madrid – no excuses but we had a lot of key players out injured.

My only regret,if we were to sell Ki,is European games, those games are made for him – a class footballer, wasted in the SPL.

The future is bright – so bright we may need to wear shades.

    COME ON CELTIC!!
