Delaney’s, I think it was 5 2 . It was played on a Monday or Thursday night forsome reason.
I remember Roy Aitken surged through the Bankies defence in one of his trademark runs to score one of our goals.
We played Bankies at Celtic Park in September 1977 , we won 1 or 2 nil. Tom McAdam scored his first goal for us in that game. Tom is another of our most underrated players. He was a better centre back for us than centre forward.

Saint Ambrose and Saint Pat’s Dumbarton were the only two teams better than our Saint Tams team in late 70s early 80s. Non denom schools hated our success. Holyrood soothside had a great team too.

Who cares how good the final was Tommy Burns final & giving the Maestro a chance to rid the Raith game, for me, he knows far, far less about Celtic than your good send the 1995 cup win was amazing :-)
*not denying the importance of the win tae TB and the Maestro, but as a game it was such a let down, after big Pierre’s goal all I can recall is a late much maligned Peter Grant (MOTM) tackle tae stop a certain equaliser.
It was a huge relief when the whistle went but that effin raith game and red hand nichol had left me with some scars so I was hoping for a humphin over a team who finished 4th in the second tier, after all the hard work had been done in the semi replay against the hibbees, but then again we thought the same after beating the sheep in the semis of the LC.
Interestingly in the latter raith beat airdrie on pens in the semis of that cup, I’ll never forgive that bassa larry marshall for that game, he practically handed wan cell the equaliser and never tried a leg at the shoot out.
David66 on
DD I played in goals for St Tams year below you obviously, and yet I was on trials at centre back with a couple of pro clubs. What the feck was I thinking playing in goals.

Delaney’s , Colin McAdam,from what I have been told , was a terrific man.
We didn’t have a midweek game so I went to Kilbowie.
Colin was there with some of his pupils , I think he dealt with teenagers with learning difficulties. I found out later from a work colleague, Colin had taken his pupils to the game and paid for them to get in out of his own pocket. A terrific gesture and sign of a fine man.

Mark Flaherty fae your year played in our team for some reason? He was a great player too. As were Davie Smith who signed for the Bankies. Roddy Manley and Jim Sinclair who signed for Dundee and Falkirk, Davie Dolan who went to Coventry and Tosh who lived all our dreams and played for the team we all wanted to play for Celtic.
Iain Clark was the best player in your year.

*I remember hearing we had signed Tom, I was playing fitba at the time and one of the few Tims in the side told me, I was truly underwhelmed, not that i didnae think he was a good player after all the Sons were my local side and i’m almost sure that Tom was the country’s first “S” signing on joining Dumbarton, in fact I said tae the lhad that we had signed the wrong brother as big Colin was a lot harder, but he was no replacement for Kenny, neither was that disaster dowie who was signed around the same time and only played 18 games for us, I think it was then that we knew Jock, as much as we loved him, shelf life was over.

Tontine Tim, John Dowie was meant to have been a big fan of the first club to play out of Ibrox . He was not a success as was Roy Kay who was signed as cover for Andy Lynch at left back.
My brother was pally with Sons ‘ centre forward , John Bourke , who was a gem of a man.
I was at a reserve cup game at Boagheid, it was a Monday night and we had beaten them on the Friday night courtesy of 3 Andy Ritchie goals and none of them tap ins either.
Big Tom and Fat Pat got intae a bit of handbags on the touchline with Colin running over tae separate them. Ironically, within a couple of years Tom and Pat would swap clubs.
Jackie Mac senior and Brian McLaughlin, making his comeback, both starred for us but it was an Andy Ritchie thunderbolt that secured us the win.
