Helsinki to heaven

684

So how many of us checked the fixture schedule a month or so back and thought, “We can win the league on the St Patrick’s Day weekend”?  Then came Motherwell and Ross County, now we will do well to win the league on the same date as Gordon Strachan’s team did in 2006. This seems to exercise Neil Lennon more than me.  I’ll take the win anytime, although where it’s won is far more important.

Having said that, anything other than a victory tomorrow would be a sign of something gone wrong.  Aberdeen have been wretched in recent months and the Celtic players have benefited from a rare free midweek, allowing rest and preparation.  They will also have more than sufficient feedback on last week’s capitulation to ensure muscles are itching to go.

This month’s edition of CQN Magazine has just launched, some have said the best yet!  We take you from Helsinki to heave, these have been special times for Celtic and we know how to enjoy them……….

It’s written by the CQN community, for the CQN community, and is absolutely free to read online (special thanks to those who voluntarily subscribed, the lights have been kept shining as a result).

You can read the Magazine by clicking on the double headed arrow at the bottom right of the graphic below.

  1. need to laugh when msm talk about a drop in attendance and relate to rangers demise. never seem to think economic downturn, lack of employment etc… effects this, no everything would be better if rangers were in the spl.

what about this little fact celtic have 43,000 season ticket holders all paying at above spl prices, sevco have 38,000 all paying sfl 3 prices. can anyone at that paper do maths. what about the fact that supporters have always picked and choose their games and that will continue.

btw i know of two people who will be getting season books next season who dont have them this season, another good news story on celtic quick news.

A couple of renewals not being made from the G64 area next season. Games will be decided on an individual basis. The Customer is never wrong is the phrase I think they use in business

  6. Morning timmites… not been on for a looooong time. After all the ‘in your face’ cheating/lies/misinformation and overall nonsense regarding the world’s most corrupt ex football club I was too scunnered for words and had a wee sabatical. Blood pressure was going Tonto.

However I have now came to the conclusion that they and their acolytes in the soon to be defunct Scottish ‘press’ are an irrelevance… a plook on the backside of life.

So, HH to one and all.

so some will go and others will come, has been happening since 1888, your right the customer is always right, but the customer base is diverse so you cant give everyone everything they want.

the only thing celtic can try to do is make sure that those who attend have more opportunities to invest in our club rather than all the local pubs/clubs and food outlets etc that take the green and white pound. celtic need to get smart in this respect, improve matchday and non-matchday visits and be as diverse a business as possible.

    what else can celtic do?

I have a client visiting Glasgow next week with his wife. He would like to go to a good pub with hopefully some live folk music. Has anyone got any suggestions ?’

Some of the suggestions, though no doubt well intentioned, could well result either in you losing a client or your client losing a wife.

Picking up on last night’s posts about Jinky’s greatest game…His performance v Red Star in 68-69 is the best I ever saw but the 7-2 game v Dundee Utd in Dec 69 was better for those who were at the game.I just missed it after deciding at the last minute to play football in the snow, which I loved. My mates came off the bus that night and couldnt wait to tell me that I’d missed the weeman’s unbelievable show. Dont think it was on the telly either.

Jinky was at his peak around this time, as Leeds and Oldco would testify. Two games in particular v Oldco, the 70 Scot cup quarter final at Parkhead which we won 3-1, and the 71 final replay. Johnstone destroyed the huns on both occasions. In fact a good mate of mine, an Oldco diehard but honest to a fault, told me that any OF (hate the term) at that time would have ‘the whole Rangers end looking at the ground when that wee man got the ball, then a voice would shout…has he still f***n goat it?’ They were terrified of him and remember this was also a right good Oldco side too.

My favourite Oldco player(there have been some), a gem of a guy, is wee Wullie Henderson. He was capped more times than Jinky (no surprise) but has always been the first to admit that the weeman, as Henderson calls him, was in a different class.

Those of an age to have witnessed Jimmy Johnstone should never forget how good he was and those not old enough should believe every word their fathers tell them about the wee man…One of my favourites was big Stein telling us that he often preffered to play Jinky on the left wing. If the opposition had a stronger right back than left back,Jock would unleash Jinky on the right back to roast him. He didnt adopt this tactic against Leeds in 70 as they had a world class left back in Terry Cooper. Years later Cooper admitted that he was getting such a going over at Hampden that Norman Hunter shouted ‘for christ sake Terry, mark the wee bugger’..to which Cooper replied..’you come owr here and f***n try and mark him!’

    Thanks for the memories Jinky.
