Henderson attempts to buck Celtic youth syndrome

624

For as long as you or I can remember, Celtic’s youth teams have had a fearsome reputation, winning countless titles, even with Kenny McDowall as head coach, but something inevitably goes wrong.  Clubs like Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts and even Hamilton Accies have a better record of graduating prospects, despite having a poorer youth team to pick from.

The other fearsome reputation we had, was that Celtic was one of the places young talent came to wither on the vine, before shuffling off to a minor club at around 21-years-old.  Where would you send your boy, Celtic or Dundee United………?

The argument goes that clubs like United have more opportunity to blood young talent than Celtic, who for long periods of the last 20 years were locked in an all-or-nothing battle for supremacy, or the need to reach the Champions League group stage, or the next level of the Champions League.  This theory doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, though, as clubs with higher still demands are able to mature young talent through first team exposure.

The truth is it’s never been a first team priority, as we have been caught in a ‘buy success’ mentality for close to 30 years.

Still only 18, Liam Henderson has as much chance as anyone who have come through the ranks in the last couple of decades of making it as a top player at Celtic, but he needs to be stretched by playing competitive senior football over the next three years, cameo appearances here and there will not provide the platform he needs.  A few months at Rosenborg, who kick off a new league season on Monday, will give him opportunities he’s not going to see at Celtic between now and the end of the season.

Did you see what newco director, Paul Murray, did with his stock market announcement yesterday?

He wrote, “‎I have been informed by Deloitte, the existing auditor, that they informed the previous Board of their intention to resign following the June 2014 audit. The previous Board chose not to announce this nor did they find a replacement for Deloitte. With limited time to have these results reviewed the Board asked Jeffreys Henry to perform the exercise as Independent Reporting Accountants, not auditors.”

On reading this many were inclined to conclude the reason Deloitte did not act as Independent Reporting Accountants for their interims was because they had left the building.  Not so.  Murray later confirmed to a Daily Record financial reporter (not the football guys) that Deloittes are still newco’s auditors.  I am sure there is a perfectly good reason they didn’t sign off the interims.  Maybe they were busy that day.

I thought the strangest part was telling folk if they ain’t into betting to bet it each way.

And the guys who are into betting have to avoid e/w:))

By its very definition, we as customers are NOT being assisted in any shape or form.

    The day – Sunday

    The time – 12:15

No train service available for ICT fans is an absolute disgrace. But the SFA knew this. If I was a shareholder of ICT I would be asking questions as the pool of tickets sold is shared equally and this is going to hit them financially.

But to Celtic. We are known for the dedication of our travelling support from abroad/travelling from afar and this is a kick in the stones- Dena excepted- to them.

The 12:15 kick-off for the Saturday is also pish.

Who made these decisions and why are we as a club not more vocal on it.

  8. Art of war.

ICT will probably not be too bothered by early kick off. Even at 3 on a Saturday they would prob bring no more than 2-3 thousand.

They still share in a quarter share in combined semi final attendance.

Example total across two days could be

    Falkirk 6k

    Hibs 15k

    Celtic 20 k

    ICT 3 k

  12. I’m delighted Liam is going out on a short loan as he is a tremendous talent with a good bit of dig in him as well.

I don’t know who came up with this idea, I would guess it is Ronny’s, but we will have an even better player back for the CL qualifiers.

Well Done the young man for going to another Country to get experience, it will prove to be invaluable for him as he tries to cement a place in this Growing Celtic team.

It gets a massive thumbsup from me, Liam has a real chance to become a Celtic Legend, I have a feeling Lennoxtown is really going to make Celtic Supporters proud over the coming years.

And Ronny decided on Liam, I’m guessing.

Our team next Season is going to be pretty good, I reckon. ;))

Hopefully, we get our priority transfer targets in a day after the transfer window opens, they are always the best buys. I’m hopeful at least 1 of our most excellent Centre/Quarter Backs will be with us going into the new Season.

Ronny, I’m sure will have the utmost respect of the players, for making them better and better.

Might even get Season Tickets, despite likely to miss a lot of the games, which irks, a lot.

  18. MickTT,

Fair do’s when a lot of Clubs were struggling financially but most have got their houses in order, that instant cash ain’t always a good thing, but it keeps the wolves from the door.

The Rangers dying thing will obviously be a blessing in disguise, these things always are. Somehow promote attacking fitba, I know the markets where it is dull and low goals, funnily enough the Bundesliga is awash with goals, those Germans urnae daft at all.

The reprobates running our game need to be chased by every Scottish Fitba Supporter in the land.

Ronny and Lennoxtown will really help Scottish Fitba recover, IMO.

    The Saga of Govania:

Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Govania, there lived a famous knight, Sir David the Lamb Giver.

For many years the poor people of Govania had suffered terribly after Jockstein the Great, who ruled the neighbouring kingdom of Celta, had won a great victory for the people of Celta. Their warriors were heralded as the great champions of all Europia. But not in Govania. Unable to match the great Celta warriors in battle, the Govanians were left to live a life of bitterness and hatred.

Then one day, Sir David the Lamb Giver seized the throne of Govania and began a new era for his people. He almost single-handedly transformed the fortunes of his people. Sir David the Lamb Giver used his influence and with the support of his sturdy camel, O’Givilia and his ever faithful servants Banquo Scotus, Souness Greyhame and Baxendale de Porno, he built a warrior corps, finally able to counter the forces of Celta. And so it came to pass, the Govanians grew to great power and dominance over their great rivals.

During these great days, the fortunes of Celta fell into darkness. For Jockstein the Great had passed away, leaving his forces leaderless, a shadow of their former greatness.

Despite this, the Govanians could not deliver that telling blow, to win that coveted prize for which they so desperately yearned.

Unceasingly, Sir David the Lamb Giver called all to join under his banner. From far and wide he called for aid and all beckoned to his called. None would dare to speak against him. None would dare to question him. Office bearers, heralds, all would feast at his great table. Sir David the Lamb Giver.

    But still success eluded him.

For out of the darkness came Sir Banquo De Lloyds a fearsome warrior who killed Banquo Scotus in the great battle of Krunching Kredit.

Sir Banquo De Lloyds was now the most powerful knight in the realm of Govania. His ambitions drove out Sir David the Lamb Giver who yielded his realm into the care of Sir Googly of Ayes.

The people of Govania were greatly saddened by the fates which had driven out their great Lord but hailed their new leader with great acclaim, “Hail Sir Googly! Hail Sir Googly! He is the bringer of great fortune.”

Sir Googly of Ayes promised great future fortune to Wiley Ticketus if he would but assist him in his campaign.

But, at the battle of Maribor, Sir Googly of Ayes suffered a terrible defeat. Left with nowhere else to turn to, Sir Googly of Ayes sent his trusted lieutenant, the Baron Duffen Felps to the land of Administrania, throwing himself at the feet of the great Queen Beth.

Queen Beth was greatly loved by her people but her favours came at a great price.

Queen Beth demanded a tithe so burdensome that Sir Googly of Ayes was unable to pay. The great queen was displeased and dispatched Sir Horace of Taxem to deal with Sir Googly of Ayes.

Sir Horace of Taxem was a mighty foe and quickly drove out Sir Googly of Ayes. Sir Horace of Taxem left his faithful servant Bay Deho to seek out Sir Googly of Ayes to bring him and all his cohort to justice.

The powerful realm of Govania was no more.

But the people of Govania were restless. They sought out a new saviour. One who could reunite the warrior corps and bring the we-ar-y people back to their once great position of dominance.

The pleas of the Govanians were answered by Sir Charles de Verre. Known as the great story teller. Sir Charles de Verre, enlisting the help of the much loved and long suffering gardener, Sal Lee Ma Coat, he reunited the Govanians and gathered them together in his new realm, Sevconia.

Despite initial setbacks against the forces of Sir Turnbull of Hutton, the Sevconians won great victories at the battles of Annan, Brechin’s Edge and far off Elgin.

However, bitter infighting at Castle Ibroke, the hallowed seat of the realm of Sevconia, threatened to destroy Sevconia forever. As they struggled to survive and overcome internal struggles, the Sevconians fell under the spell of the Ogre, Mash the Scrotum Gripper. Many had tried to destroy this mighty Ogre but, once in his grasp, few ever escaped.

The people yearned for the return of the King. Their King. The man in whom the people trusted. The man whom the people could truly look to and love.

King David the GAS returned from the far off land of Sudafrica, where he had repelled no less than 41 charges by the SARS. King David the GAS was heralded throughout the land. “Hail the return of the King” was proclaimed in every tavern, on every billboard and in every household. King David the GAS would soon drive off the monstrous ogre and lead his people back to their promised land.

Will King David the GAS be able to succeed where so many before him have failed?

Will he break free from the Ogre’s grasp?

    We await with bated breath…

    A Tale Of Govanian Knights

Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Govania, there lived a famous knight, Sir David the Lamb Giver.

For many years the poor people of Govania had suffered terribly after Jockstein the Great, who ruled the neighbouring kingdom of Celta, had won a great victory for the people of Celta. Their warriors were heralded as the greatest warriors in all Europia.

But not in Govania. Unable to match the great Celtan warriors in battle, the Govanians were left to live a life of bitterness and hatred.

During this era of dominance, the Celtans dealt blow after blow to their foes. When on the fields of Ninar they routed the Govanians, the Celtans won a victory which would ultimately lead to a coup d’etat at Govania and play a major part in the downfall of this once great realm.

Sadly for the Celtans, the passing of Jockstein the Great signalled the end of their era of dominance. Their forces fell into decline and although they had a few noteable victories, at the battles of Tenmen (also known as the Battle of Blackout) and Centenary Hill, their great rivals were to dominate them on the battlefield.

After a coup d’etat in Govania, Sir David the Lamb Giver seized the throne and began a new era for his people.

He almost single-handedly transformed the fortunes of his people. Sir David the Lamb Giver used his influence and with the support of his sturdy camel, O’Givilia and his ever faithful servants Banquo Scotus, Souness Greyhame and Baxendale the Star of Porne, he built a formidable army.

Sir David the Lamb Giver enlisted many foreign warriors from Angleland, Italia and Gaul. The most feared corps of this great army, the Black Knights were invincible. Weilding their most feared weapon the Redcardian sword, the Black Knights smote many Celtan warriors.

And so it came to pass, the Govanians grew to great power and dominance over their great rivals. Rarely were the Celtans able to overcome their foes on the battlefield.

Despite this, the Govanians could not deliver that telling blow, to win that coveted prize for which they so desperately yearned.

Of great concern to the Govanians, the Celtans began to grow strong once again under their powerful warlord, Sir Fergus de Bunnet.

Sir David the Lamb Giver, reeling after the losses on the fields of Teniar redoubled his efforts to once and for all destroy the Celtans.

From far and wide he called for aid and all beckoned to his call. None would dare to speak against him. None would dare to question him. Office bearers, heralds, all would feast at his great table. Sir David the Lamb Giver.

Fatefully, Sir David the Lamb Giver was so desparate for success, he enlisted the secretive EBTan guards, renowned for shredding all which lay before them.

Even with these accumulated forces, Sir David the Lamb Giver still could not extirpate the Celtans.

During the battle of Krunching Kredit, Banquo Scotus was decapitated by Sir Banquo De Lloyds who now became the most powerful knight in the realm of Govania. His ambitions drove out Sir David the Lamb Giver who yielded his realm into the care of Sir Googly of Ayes.

The people of Govania were greatly saddened by the fates which had befallen them but their heralds proclaimed, “Hail Sir Googly! Hail Sir Googly! He is the bearer of great fortune.”

She dispatched her most feared Lord, Sir Horace Taxem to deal with Sir Googly of Ayes and the EBTan guards.

Sir Horace Taxem had great and secret powers. With these, he quickly overthrew Sir Googly of Ayes who fled into exile, no longer welcome in Govania. Leaving his servant Biddy Ho to lay siege to Castle Ayebroke, the hallowed seat of the realm of Govania until all of Sir Googly of Ayes’ cohort and the EBTan guards could be brought before the Queen’s court.

The powerful realm of Govania was no more.

But the people of Govania were restless. They sought out a new saviour. One who could reunite the warrior corps and bring the we-ar-y people back to their once great position of dominance.

The pleas of the Govanians were answered by Sir Charles de Verre, known as the great story teller. Sir Charles de Verre, relying on the wise council of his much loved and long suffering aid, Macostalot the Rotund, also called The Nameseeker, he reunited the Govanians and gathered them together in his new realm, Sevconia.

Despite initial setbacks against the forces of Sir Turnbull of Hutton, the Sevconians won great victories at the battles of Annan, Brechin’s Edge and far off Elgin.

The strain of these great battles finally took their toll on Sir McCostalot the Rotund who left the court of Sevconia to tend to his now badly overgrown courtyard.

Bitter infighting at Castle Ayebroke, threatened to destroy Sevconia forever. As they struggled to survive and overcome internal struggles, the Sevconians fell under the control of the Ogre, Mash the Scrotum Gripper. Mash the Scrotum Gripper was feared throughout the known world for one once held in his grasp, few ever escaped.

The people yearned for the return of the King. Their King. The man in whom the people trusted. The man whom the people could truly look to, listen to and believe in.

King David the GAS returned from the far off land of Sudafrica, where he had repelled no less than 41 charges by the SARS.

King David the GAS was heralded throughout the land.

“Hail the return of the King” was proclaimed in every tavern, on every billboard and in every household. King David the GAS would soon drive off Mash the Scrotum Gripper and lead his people back to their promised land.

But at the battle of Payday Hill, King David’s warrior, NOMAD the Unnamed did not enter the fray, leaving the Freebare Knights to cover their rear as King David the GAS’s forced withdrew from the battlefield.

Since then silence has fallen on Sevconia.

Will King David the GAS be able to succeed where so many before him have failed?

Will he break free from the grasp of Mash the Scrotum?

    We await with bated breath…

But at the battle of Payday Hill, King David’s warrior, NOMAD the Unnamed did not enter the fray, leaving the Freebare Knights to cover their rear as King David the GAS’s forces withdrew from the battlefield.

Since then silence has fallen on Sevconia.

Will King David the GAS be able to succeed where so many before him have failed?

Will he break free from the grasp of Mash the Scrotum Gripper?

    We await with bated breath…

  24. Pissed off the Lisbon Treaty was fixed so blatantly and so hard.

Sevco are a real red herring, an irritant, that shouldnae even be discussed on CQN, IMO, certainly not to the extent that they are.

If the Hun manage to get back up this season, for Celtic to raise the ticket price, Celtic are making them special.

As the market dudes are well versed, if we hit a deflationary recession, and that is likely IMHO, despite all the bullsh!t fed by the Corporate, that certainly wullnae get the untapped potential to get the crowds to the Holy Grail, 60000, every single game.

When I sat with BSR, his words stayed with me, the play on the pitch wisnae that captivating that he lamented the Thousands missing.
