History goes on the line, our Celtic lives

278

There is a theory that overwhelmingly dominant teams devalue competition as others invariably play for the runners’ up spot.  It is not true.  The double treble winners have given the League Cup a value sponsor’s Ladbrokes could scarcely have hoped for.  Being the next trophy Celtic can win or lose, Scotland’s second cup competition is more valuable than at any time I remember.

When Celtic are eventually eliminated from a cup competition, there will be celebrations across the land, as the rest realise one of them will win a trophy.  The only experience Celtic fans have like this in living memory is the Scottish Cup wins in 1995 and 1965, the importance of which are still discussed and cherished.

The heightened importance of the League Cup is not limited to fans of other teams, it is more important to Celtic fans than at any time since the 1997 final.  For so long, winning trebles seemed impossible, even to dominant Celtic teams, but now we’ve done it twice, we want to do it again.  We want this League Cup.

Being six points adrift from Hearts in the league is far from satisfactory, but tomorrow’s League Cup game at St Johnstone is more important than Saturday’s league game at home to Aberdeen.  We need to be ready for it.

On Sunday, two groups of Celtic fans will run through the city for the Great Scottish Run, wearing green Celtic FC Foundation tshirts.  The blisters and cramp that got us there will be a distant memory.

There is nothing quite like running through the packed streets of Glasgow with that big logo on your chest, it engages people like nothing else.  It is an opportunity to represent something bigger than any of us.

The work of the Foundation is invaluable to some of the most deprived and needy in Scotland, Ireland, England and throughout the world.  It is an important part of our Celtic lives.  If you can donate to support the work, please do so here.

Thank you.

Aye, Rab and Tommy will be up there laughing at the pash their sons post on CQN.

I miss both my dad and yours. Got to know your dad well in his last few years. Dragged him into the Coach House and bought him a coupla drams one afternoon I got a win in the Ladbrokes next door. As you know, he would not drink in there. I felt honoured that he accepted my invite. Less than a year later he departed to join Rab.

  2. DD if my memory serves me well, Billy Stark as a lad had a trial at hades, after he got cleaned up post trial he went tae get his boots and was told they had been thrown out, so he left with name boots and name comp either.

  3. Yes we have played mega more games than any other team in Scotland.

Subsequently, spare a thought for our supporters who attend every game.

How much have they spent in cheering us on to two trebles combined with European games.

They definitely don’t deserve to be called ” gullible ” by some Celtic fans.

    HH to all.

Jack Hendry and Scott McKenna as our central defenders and I would chuck it. Terrible fitba players.

  5. As I said earlier today any win mañana will do.

Get a few wins together and gather momentum and get the winning mentality back.

We will win the league of that I am sure.

    D66,

I’m also going to have to agree with GREENINBINGLEYINOSLO as a caveat and admit we do have players who can do that but playing 120 over two seasons with a couple of weeks rest will create fatigue which definitely affects sharpness. Its no just the games there’s a load of hours training in that nix, which IMO made introducing new blood and improving quality was imperative. It would have kept players fresh knowing they were being supplemented and supported with improved quality providing a boost to morale and greater competition which always keeps them interested whereas watching the quality drop only makes the players feel like they have to work harder to stand still, that is demoralising and adds to tension and fatigue.

Billy Stark and his brother used to travel through the Clyde fae Temple to doomdome when they were weans. They were a bluenose but never a hun or orange family. His brother John would travel on our supporters bus fo Celtic games in European games and support us. Lovely family the Starks.

managers in most fields know about morale and fatigue, executives rarely do

Gutenberg mentioned to me that he would take a run of boring 1-0 Celtic wins to regain our confidence. I agree with him. Substance over style tomorrow and Saturday.

Fancy a pre match Coias munch on Saturday 1pm?

  10. Canamalar successful teams will always play more games than anyone else.

Not recruiting at least 3-4 first team/squad players in the window was complacent.

Fatigue does play a part and I fully understand this, but we should still be able to beat St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

  11. DD 1-0 wins would do me.

I am going with my son in law on Saturday, I will ask him. What time?

    D66,

Yep we should and will but they are not machines, as I said, more than just fatigue, morale needs infusion too and fatigue is heavier when you feel you need to work harder to stand still, that is a big mental strain.

If the stat that KT, Jamesie Forrest and Craig Gordon played more fitba matches than any other player in world fitba last season is true?

    Nae wonder we look tired.

  14. DD Canamalar football players these days are wimps.

    D66,

How any hours did you sit in rooms looking at lines with arrows and crosses with some fart telling you about all your mistakes ? ?

  16. Think I heard that Rakitic played 71 matches last season at the end of the WC (in which he excelled).

Big games – Croatia WC playoffs, WC, Champions League, El Classico, games away to difficult teams like Atletico and Sevilla plus a hell of a lot of travelling.

  17. GREENINBINGLEYINOSLO on 25TH SEPTEMBER 2018 9:04 PM….

Spot on, my sentiments as well.

The board could have done more though. HH

  18. Canamalar eh none ? just pure football.

    Attack attack attack ?

When older it was obviously more organised.

    Tactical if you like.
