History is our team talk

330

Job done, we have had a week of celebration and back slapping.  Meanwhile, in Perth, a squad are playing for their livelihoods, playing to make mortgage payments and ensure they have a wage come July.

St Johnstone may be second bottom of the league, but their last defeat was four games ago, narrowly to Newco, they have beaten Hearts, and taken draws at Pittodrie and Easter Road in the last two months.  The gap to St Mirren and safety has narrowed to six points; tomorrow we face a side with momentum.

One of football’s endearing lessons to me arrived in April 2005.  We went to Ibrox and won 1-2, the mood was similar to what it is right now, as we thought we had done the difficult work.  A home game against Tony Mowbray’s Hibs was up next.

There were all sorts of rumours of what went wrong that day, but the upshot is that a poor Hibs side left Glasgow with a 1-3 win.  Celtic lost the title by a a single point three weeks later.  No one saw that outcome after the win at Ibrox.

If you think tomorrow is all about celebrating what happened on Sunday, let me dissuade you.  If we beat St Johnstone, we will have to show even greater appetite than we know they will have.  For this one, history is our team talk.

I’ve been out this morning and not had a chance to catch up with Dermot Desmond’s subtle musings. Maybe next week.

  2. Good morning from a sunny but chilly North Staffs – frost on the car roofs.

Hopefully 3 points for Celtic and Vale this afternoon.

I think Ange will go with the same starting xi as last week but Ralston for Taylor if he’s injured. Kyogo definitely getting some game time.

    “Do you do crew cuts?”

    “Of course,” said the barber.

    “Ok we’re in lads.”

So they’re sitting waiting for their turn. Woman appears with a tray and starts offering rolls n sausage, hot dogs, burgers etc.

“What’s all this then?” says the sailor, tucking in.

The barber stops cutting and looks round.

    “it’s a barber queue.”

  6. Good morning fellow Celts.

That was a really nice read back.

Lots of lovely words for RON BACARDI who faces tough challenges for the second time.

Prayers said for your full and speedy recovery.

    And BIG JIMMY is back!

And there’s a big game today.

And I will make a donation to the Bookies Benevolent Fund as I usually do at this time of the year.

Good luck to everyone who backs a horse in the GN.

  7. I have a Hosta in a border in my garden.

It grows to about 5 feet high and six feet wide in the summer.

It covered part of the lawn, which needed to be re-seeded every spring.

Dormant it is about two feet wide.

Decided to lift it, split it up and replant some of it and give some of it away.

    That’ll teach me.

    Pass the paracetamol.

Great shout out earlier for Melbourne Mick to return, there are so many other good ghuys who no longer post, maybe if a few are still lurking they might check in & hopefully help us celebrate a successful completion of the Season,

  21. couple of things.

Sentinel Celts has an excellent article today for the 130th anniversary of our first scottish cup win, really good read, and really hoping the club do something at the game to celebrate that first of many and our name on the cup.

    next,

having had the pleasure of briefly meeting Big Jimmy and the others in the magnificent seven , it is brilliant now to read his posts while putting a face to the name. better still with the jokes , i can also put a voice and a laugh to the script.

    larger than life for sure.

i am going up early early today i want to have a wander around the calton and hopefully bump into any of tthe auld gang.

    keep it lit bhoys.

i just had another daft memory for this time of the year, remember the says when the national winner would be announced over the tannoy to cheers or boos at the game. hibs semi final 1980 i recall for some daft reason.

  22. Just been reading all the overnight and morning posts and wish to thank all for your kind words and encouragement. They brought Mrs Bacardi to tears in her eyes when I told her. She also welcomes Big Jimmy on his return.

I have been using Ron Bacardi since the early 1970’s, first as a nom de plume on my betting slips. It was that or Tio Pepe.

  23. SAINT STIVS

Yes, in those days the boat race, the grand national and the scottish and english cup semi finals took place on the same saturday before Skysports came on the scene and started messing about with fixtures and schedules

  24. St Stivs

Recalling the other day being at Hamilton when Mauri Venture was announced as the winner the minds a funny thing [that was probably my last winner and i don’t just mean the National

Good to have you back Big Jimmy

    Oh and 5-0 the Celts
