Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”
With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them. I’m not buying that either. He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone. If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here. It is the former, surely?
Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May. Like all these decisions, it was a gamble. Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.
So where has this left us? The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned. You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park. The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

A couple of Aussies to keep Ange company – Leckie (Hertha Berlin) and Jackson Irvine are out of contract so most likely;
*the latter has been on my mind since Ange’s name first surfaced, could be Broonies replacement
Irvine has been pretty poor for Hibs, no way we’re signing him.

Sorry for late reply Pete I was watching a film.
I don’t know if Feargal will make a difference- it’s his first year in this job and I have nothing to go on to judge that. PL had to go though because our fans needed a fresh start. I doubt much will change in boardroom approach. They will be to blame when things go wrong and will not get credit for any successes (quite rightly). I don’t get too excited by anyone on the Board – never have- though I think Bankier does not understand Celtic at all.
Sevco obviously recruited well last year because their team won the league and had a great season. Whether they have recruited well for next year will only become clear in a month or two’s time.
Celtic have obviously not done well over the past week and all of last season but, as for 2021/22, we have lost nothing yet and have won nothing yet.

I don’t doubt Lawwell is a victim of something terrifying and despicable. P67 rushed to judgement on it, without any knowledge. More than that, he sought to blame the wrong people. Without the facts to support it.
I don’t know the facts for sure, but I was told (for the benefit of Ged who can’t count to 4) that the word is it’s a bad guy that did time for mortgage fraud and who shares a surname with a hero of ours named Yogi. Also told it is related to other firebombing in Bothwell and double fire bombing in Cleveden (first one was the neighbour by mistake, some poor financial adviser’s Bentley – so they went back the next night). Might all be pish, but the article you shared is at least consistent with it.
I don’t like or rate Lawwell, but he has my unconditional sympathy for what he’s gone through here.

His CV under the spotlight by James Forrest was very illuminating.
Will he have the tactics necessary for a modern European game ?
Will he have the vital man management skills combined with a professionalism that is so badly missing. Or will he rely on the usual suspects of JK assisted by GS.?
Will he be able to instigate the change that most of us have been calling for.?
Can he deal with a hostile press. Communication and media skills are paramount for our manager.?
Can he engage and win over a sceptical fan base.?
Can he handle high profile players and their potential petulance?
Will he stand up to board pressure and be confident and adamant in his own decision making ?
Probably most of all, will he have the ambition at 55 years old to scale new heights in an unfamiliar environment.?

The Scot Gov MIGHT reopen Pubs this weekend, and it appears that they may have committed to that reopening, as they are about to allow 6,000 people into Glasgow Green each day for the EURO’s starting on 11th June….I know that the EUROS’s on The Green is an OUTside event obviously, but how can they allow THAT….and keep Pubs Closed at the same time ?

Question. If a better manager/ coach had joined us last summer would we have won the league? Same players. Just switch out the manager.
Another way of asking the question – is the manager or the squad the bigger factor in success?
If we had a more functional back four last season would we have won the league?
I’m a bit more relaxed about who comes in as manager if we get the right players.
Imho & only based on my observations, something negative happened between our manager last season & some of the players, this in turn caused friction, an imbalance between the players themselves that sent us in to a downward spiral that was only briefly halted when we beat Hearts to win the Quadruple Treble, beat the eventual Ligue 1 winners Lille but died again when Bitton was ordered off against the Huns. Dubai then put paid to any chance of recovery.
Based on what I’d read on Howe & what I read on Postegoclou I’m glad we seem to be going for the latter as I believe he’s just the kind of character we need at Celtic, big baws & nae messing, any shirkers will be rooted out, I’ve a feeling we’re going to see a dynamic Celtic this season HH

I think what he’s saying is not every team from the same pot is of the same ability. You seem to be suggesting that “pot 2 means pot 2” which we all know isn’t true.
Nobody’s saying that Benfica wasn’t a decent side and nobody’s saying that beating them wasn’t a good achievement but it’d be laughable to suggest that Benfica of a decade ago are anything like Pep’s Manchester City.
Football is far more nuanced and saying that Lennon’s achievements were greater than BR’s does miss a lot of conext. Maybe if Rodgers had come up against Benfica and Lennon came up against Pep’s Manchester City, things might have looked a bit different.
