Howe pantomime ends, what now

1566

Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”

With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them.  I’m not buying that either.  He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone.  If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here.  It is the former, surely?

Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May.  Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.  Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.

So where has this left us?  The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned.  You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park.  The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

  1. Bowling clubs.

My 2nd jag was at the Allander centre this afternoon.

    The big indoor bools place.

The champions wooden plaque boards were interesting.

I wonder if they have had any catholic champions,

  2. GEEBEE – of course we would rather appoint in advance to allow proper planning. We lost our # 1 candidate, the board dithered – but we move on regardless and none of us know if this will be a blessing or not.

BTW I also wonder about DD mentality – after winning 9iar and a quad treble he gets to witness the spoiled/entitled/immature side of the Celtic support.

Their demonstrations last season were utterly disgusting and enough to drive a wedge between board and support – DD won’t tolerate that an I wonder if he has lost some of his passion – we will see!!

    …………..

All the best to you and congratulations…and I hope that your daughter and the New wee Bhoy are both healthy and well.

    HH Mate.

  4. We should have a Celtic version of Godwin’s Law, for anyone who mentions Larsson having had a crap debut.

Sometimes, the inverted logic of Celtic fans surprises me!

  5. So out of absolutely nowhere, Ange Postecoglou has become the bookies favourite.

    Maybe Rogic suggested him 🙄

Apparently He manages Yokohama F Marinos which is part of the Man City empire.

The situation is desperate. Time to play ‘sod off then, we only want ‘true fans’ buying season books anyway’ card.

Drat, someone’s already beat me to it!

I know, let’s blame the huns. What’s that you say, others have already played that card? Aw naw…

From an article on another blog ———–:

That article quotes someone from Talksport . one of the most virulently anti Celtic platforms out there .

It might as well have been directly from the blue room .

  8. Seems a bit odd that Eddie Howe is using the recruitment plans

as an excuse not to come. So we are led to believe that he agreed

to come previously and said he needed to sort out his backroom

staff. Sorry, not buying that. The first question anyone would ask

is ” How much is my transfer budget?” meeting one, question one.

Sorry this is all utter bollo*ks.

I too wonder along the same lines.

Also think it’s a lot easier to moan and be negative online.

If some folk moaned and complained as frequently as here for instance with a real group of people without occassionally switching it up or being constructive. Then more than likely you’d end up with no-one listening.

Being stuck indoors for a year will do that to you, however.

Cr*p year. And a real lift needed. It’s not there yet.

    I just remain positive 🍀

  10. Dermot Desmond needs to be removed from our Club, I’ve said all along that Howe wouldn’t come to Celtic and I have been proved to be right ,I still say that Martinez and Maloney should be contacted ASAP,back to Desmond look at what’s happened to the Hotel ,Musuem,a New Ticket Office and the Upgrade at Barrowfield,I think the change needs to happen inside the directors to be rid of Desmond and others,

Excellent post. The issue is not one of criminality but video authenticity.

Thanks Mazzy, I’ve never been an attention-seeker but I have form as an activist so I was a bit annoyed that no-one had responded to my post at 6.57! I might re-post to try to get some people to do something similar. Can’t abide the “Whit’s the point? They’ll do nothing” attitude. We have strength in numbers. If we get organised!

  16. Fans telling others not to renew their season tickets because they don’t agree with their opinions.

  17. I wonder did the arson attack on PL’s house put any prospective staff off coming to Celtic ?

I thought that that may have been the case at the time

it was a good post, and i need to digest it a wee bit.

  19. I punted Postecoglou early as he’s part of the ManCity global mega-industry. With the expected DoF (Fergal) from the same stable, it makes sense to me. I have hee-haw insider knowledge (like 99.9% posters or Frank “My sources tell me” McAvennie but my instinct is that he’d be good for us while I never felt that Howe’s heart was in it. Just an opinion.

  20. TIMGREEN:

You’re a Celtic fan, right? I’m just asking because you seem to be under the impression – the grossly mistaken impression – that we’re part of the “Man CIty Global Mega Industry.”

I’ve looked into this, and we’re not. I don’t know if that’s news to you.

  21. PeteTheBeat

Good point, things feel to me at the moment like we will bring in

a stop gap. As I have said it might be Steve Clarke. Or possibly another

Jo Venglos, a steady hand on the tiller.

Glad your daughter and grandson are good. Your daughter had a lot to cope with.

    God bless them!

    And you!

  25. TIMGREEN on 28TH MAY 2021 7:47 PM

So Postecoglou won’t just be our second choice but he’ll be our second-choice City Group manager after Maresca went to Parma :)

Postecoglou looks like a winner judging by his career but will he get the respect of the players here – will he be a Wim Jansen or our very own Caixinha?

  26. TIMGREEN:

I’m sorry about that mate, that was more flippant and sarcastic than it should have been. You’re not the first person to be on the end of my frustrations today, undeservedly, but you will be the last.

Switching off for the night because really, I’m just getting more pissed off every minute.

You have a good one, mate, and the rest of you.

  27. fanadpatriot on

Remember last year a so call copy of players we were considering to bid for ,a supposed leak from a meeting ,a list left on a table for a cleaner to pick up allegedly ,

What if similar was handed to EH and he was flabbergasted by the level of players on it .

Would that tell you of the ambition of the club/custodians .

    Just a thought

Jeez James, where did that come from? I can feel the heat of your rage from here. I’m nearly 70, Mammy raised a corner kick and a half from Paradise at Parkhead Cross. You ask am I a Celtic fan. Is the Pope an Orangeman?? I have been devoted to the Celtic all my life and always will be.

I don’t get your rage. My point is that we seem to be going for Fergal as DoF and he’s from the ManCity “stud” and the Greek/Oz fella is also part of that enterprise (unless I’m mistaken). So I see a logical connection, that’s all. What’s your problem? Followed you for years and have respect but genuinely confused by your hostility. We’re all angry today.

  29. I like to browse the twitterati celtic sites for images i aint seen before then i collect them for myself.

sometimes the mood of the blog makes me give up bothering sharing them on here.

the retro celt posted lisbon images that are just wonderful. but i wont bother sharing them for fear of the self pity wallowing in doom and gloom,

i will however post this of celtic legends, because like most on here, it was an absolute privelage to have seen them, sometimes not in good times, but still we seen them.

Not sure where you find these pics but there are some crackers.

Have you ever thought of putting a load together and making a collage?

  32. Celtic have decided to tell us on a Friday afternoon on a bank holiday weekend that they’ve wasted months of potential preparation for next season.

Is this what Dom was brought in for ? A good day to bury bad news. Very cynical.

  33. onenightinlisbon on

The usual crew who backed Lennon when it was patently obvious he was out of his depth telling us to calm down. We are in a desperate position of our own making. We have no manager, a huge rebuild at every level yet we are to keep the faith.
