Howe pantomime ends, what now

1566

Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”

With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them.  I’m not buying that either.  He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone.  If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here.  It is the former, surely?

Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May.  Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.  Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.

So where has this left us?  The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned.  You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park.  The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

Its funny how the posters who have reservations or unhappy about proceedings are portrayed as ANGRY 😂

Forget this clueless #Celtic board stepping aside, they need driven out. Once more we have the pathetic scenario of a managerial target not being able to choose his own staff. We knew a new boss was needed in late 2020 but as June looms we’re rudderless.

    United fans action needed. https://twitter.com/CelticGossip/status/1398297488147234817

We’ve misplaced fan militancy since seats were introduced, the GB excepted.

  5. ST – thanks, but I wish I was posting about how too day’s news was the start of us getting back on track. Seems I was foolish to think we were back on track…

  6. Anyhoo , this news cant spoil the afternoon spent in FAIRHILL BHOY’S and co’s company.

Mind you we thought he was pished when he tried to pronounce the next candidate for manager 🤣🤣🤣🍻🏌️‍♀️⛳ great day champ 👍😎

In my 40 year business career I have been involved in many deals, some of which die at a late stage when they were odds on to finalise and even when letters of intent were issued or they were verbally agreed and hands shaken.

In the past 6 months alone an Irish girl agreed every word of her contract but pulled out when it was emailed to her. An Australian agreement was ended by one email by the other party following a verbal confirmation that they would go ahead.

A £14m agreement to develop a large building in Glasgow was at the signing meeting with 10 inches of documentation to be signed when the funder Citibank got up and walked away from the table due to a point which seemed trivial to us. Architects surveyors, lawyers were having kittens at the table as all their work was conditional on the deal being completed. That deal was eventually completed and, years later, the Citibank executive told me that the point at issue was not trivial as it revolved around US government intelligence about potential Iranian in the project at a time when the US and Iran were virtually at war.

So, I am disappointed that Eddie is not coming but I have questions for those posters on here who are attributing blame to one party or another

How many businesses deals involving multiple parties have you concluded and do you have a 100% record?

Apart from making us look stupid,I.am relieved that Howe is not coming and have stated this before,he clearly is uneasy and needs bags of mates,so.not the sign of the single minded Manager.

Did he not leave Burnley stating homesickness…….for Bournemouth.

    I’ve already renewed so.I guess I don’t get a vote,as I don’t qualify for driving the Board into.the Car Park,not that I am a fan.

How’s people briefing it was money/ quality of transfer targets.

Leaving aside the inevitability of money being the issue at Celtic, it’S a colossal failure of communication after 3 months of dialogue. If they were miles apart on that say thanks, but cheerio.

    Let’s compare apples with apples.

Which scottish club is taking longest to replace its previous manager?

Are you happy with our ‘progress’ over the last 24 months or so?

I recognise all those symptoms, problem is a high percentage of the Bag the Board team, will never have experienced this level of Contract negotiation.

I remember pre EU acceptance, meetings in Budapest necessitated carrying plenty of Brown envelopes to aid the meetings,as they say.

Sure that did not apply here, just lack of a firm ultimatum.

  14. Ah well, its his loss.We move on.Only reason I am raging is I wanted Maresca in from City.Got the job at Roma yesterday.A couple of good managers still out there.Fabre is available. With the comical Board, who knows.

The excitement grows again who its going to be .

Anyway i’m off to watch the PACT ……….No its nothing to do with Celtic /Rangers

    ***********

How very perceptive. My uncle Ian Kennedy Martin, brother of Troy Kennedy Martin (Dirty Dozen and co- originator of Z Cars – there’s one for the kids- ) wrote and devised The Sweeney. Would have to check, but hope he had nothing to do with the movie – probably would have moved on by then.

  23. I know nothing about betting.

However, if a bookie tomorrow says –

    10/1 Allerdyce

    12/1 Hodgson

    20/1 Zidane

    100/1 dugless Ross

Knowing full well there is no chance of any of these people ever joining Celtic.

They can still legally take money?

Thinking of starting up a bookies shop.

I agree that recruitment can be problematic. Had a number of issues in my working years, even during times of high unemployment.

I would suggest, however, that Celtic seem uniquely inept when it comes to recruitment. This episode is now farcical

I hope for the best, though my faith is waning
