Howe pantomime ends, what now

1566

Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”

With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them.  I’m not buying that either.  He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone.  If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here.  It is the former, surely?

Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May.  Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.  Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.

So where has this left us?  The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned.  You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park.  The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

So that makes it acceptable..its bullying..might no seem like it on the face of it..but it is..get them tae..

  2. Whoever comes in as manager, the big question will be how much control he has.

Will it be a modern approach where he will pick his coaches and sports science?

Or will it be run in a Lawwellesque manner where he has no say in who the coaches are, this vital decision being made by an accountant whose expertise in football was playing five a sides with his pals, who never replaced the previous sports science professionals under Rodgers, which should automatically be in place for a club looking to be ambitious, but wasn’t slow at trousering millions in bonuses.

Just as important will be if a general manager is appointed or will that role be taken up by a guy whose previous role was in rugby.

  3. good night god bless , from the lakes ,, 😂😂 have we got a manager yet!!! !! naw , well. here’s a photo of tam a shan’t r , !!

“Nothing says tactical genius like a 9th place finish in the J League. Just f**k off.”

We recruited Wim Jansen as manager of Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 1995/96. They finished in 11th place of 14 (in the ist stage of J1 league) and finished in 10th place after the final stages.

Ange has surpassed that and Wim won his league when he came to Scotland.

  5. Yeah the Green Brigade should be the targets here.

Maybe Harkin knows a little bit about world football and thinks Ange is the next best thing to Howe after seeing his work

Premiership managers at Bournemouth are not box office

    HURRAY!

Personally delighted if it’s to be Ange as I’d floated his name way back when the wheels were first coming off the Lennymobile. Fair play to the Board for looking far and wide for a guy who lives/breathes football.

If it’s to be Fergal as wheeler dealer and Ange as game plan master, our Plan B is apt and imaginative.

Ange only left Victory (where he was loved) to manage the Socceroos – currently sitting above Scotland in the world rankings. Ange is accepted (in Australasia anyway) as a deep thinker and shrewd tactician. One sticking point…he is a prickly personality and has had several rants and run-ins with journos and pundits.

This could be his Achilles heel with the Scottish press hyenas. Maybe cool hand Kennedy would be a good press foil for him.

For the critical or disappointed (some due to lack of knowledge) pull yer heads in, and give him a chance.

It’s litterally written right there. “Doing a job for them” .

  11. Exactly mate.people are venting their frustrations..not doing a job for that mob..that disgusting mob

  12. DREW1967

I totally get people, especially locked up for year need to vent.

And Celtic could/should have been great comfort this year and weren’t.

But immediately reason was lost and folk were making more of today than it was.

    Aye, sure…

I’ve said this before on here, I would never post or even venture onto a sevco fans site.

So why do people like yourself feel the need to come on here and try to take the piss?

There are enough sites for huns like yourself to go to.

How did you feel when your club died in 2012?

Did you greet like a wean?

    Really?

So no manager in place 15 weeks after the last manager leaving.

Gross neglect and incompetence from the people running the club to let it get to this.

Champions league qualifiers not far away with virtually a whole new team required.

We have just finished 25 points behind the huns in a season in which the board refused to replace Lennon in November during which we were on our worst run of results since the early 1960s.

And now this, where the truth about Howe not taking the job (finances to build the team) is beginning to leak out.

But hey, as you say, no big deal eh?

    Everything’s hunky dory.

  17. Today was a Friday. (Technically yesterday now)

You are either a hun at the wind up, genuinely the most gullible person on the planet or suffer from total blind loyalty.

Tell me, if sevco had had the worst run of results in their 9 year history this season, finished 25 pts behind us, had sacked their manager in February and still had no replacement 3 days shy of June and put all their hopes in one person without said person actually signing on as manager and instead let it run and run, while they need virtually a whole new starting 11 in time for Champions League qualifiers in a few weeks, would you, as a tim, be pishing yourself laughing at the gross incompetence of the board, or would you be saying it’s no big deal for them?

That’s what Lawwell would want us to think like.

‘We waited for Howe thinking he would take it’… no big club ran properly waits over 3 months for a definitive answer.

‘We have lost 5 days’…No, we have lost 96 days and counting and we have the biggest rebuild in our history required with champions league qualifiers due soon.

Informative – bit longish – piece on Postecoglou’s career and ethos for those willing to consider the facts rather than dismiss him as a fitba nobody; which is a lazy bollocks supposition.

Having seen his teams play down here, his Roar team was entertaining and effective.

‘…The calibre of performances was revelatory; never before had an Australian club side demonstrated the modernity, fluidity and aesthetic attractiveness of those sides. It entirely redefined what Australian football teams were capable of. Squint; and swap the orange of the Roar with the red of Wenger’s Arsenal or the blaugrana of Guardiola’s FC Barcelona and one would not know the difference…’

  27. My friends in Celtic,

Totally deflated at the moment. No doubt about it

, this is an embarrassment for our club and the individuals who are supposed to have their hands on the wheel.

It has to be said though, events at Thortonhall and repeatedly at George Square would not persuade families to relocate.

No doubt security was discussed and it entirely feasible that iwould be off-putting to a football manager ( backroom ) from calmer climates.

One thing I have learned through this debacle is never to listen to those on here who repeatedly stated the Eddie Howe deal was done and dusted. Constantly repeating the same narrative as factual does not make it fact.

Absolutely gutted, but hopefully the embarrassment will result in bigger and better. For an atmospheric Parkhead, I sincerely hope so.

    No worries.

Clearly all Tic fans are traumatised by last season’s debacle.

Still, a few interlopers use this site to sew more discord than is mibby needed.

Ange knows his stuff – I pray the club has a strategy for the inevitable media assault; whether it was Eddie or Ange or whoever, that is something they will do to our new Mgr and he needs to be briefed for that. HH

  30. I like to think we are a genuinely knowledgeable lot on here.

Many, if not most of us will have now researched Ange Postecoglou.

No amount of spin will make him a prime candidate for the Celtic job.

    HH.

  31. Some self reflection from all associated with Celtic.

Denial has been strong over the past year (we’re really only 10 points behind, sevco will implode, Howe is a done deal)

    All of it utter nonsense.

Our troubles are all self inflicted. Spare me any nonsense of the MSM being responsible for this. I don’t interact with them in any way, shape or form.

Let’s deal in facts, not hopeful bluster.

We went from a period of massive advantage to losing the league by a record margin. We set europa league records, for all the wrong reasons.

We need to start on the recovery. However, we have to admit the scale of the problems facing us. They are severe. Underestimate this and we will be fighting for 2nd place next season.

    Get aggressive, Celtic
