Celtic have completed the signing of 20-year-old Nigerian, Rabiu Ibrahim subject to a medical, after he was released by PSV Eindhoven earlier this month. Rabiu is known as a creative-central midfielder, a role that Celtic have played possibly as few as a dozen times in the last decade.
After leaving Nigeria full of promise as a 17-year-old the player failed to make the desired impact in Portugal and the Netherlands, but will still be regarded as a development project by the Celtic technical staff. His short history in Europe, with tales of agents and representation investors already has enough material for a short novel, which will not have aided development.
The job for Celtic is to get Rabiu plugged back into his potential. It remains to be seen what role he is deployed in when he gets the chance.

With regard to £6milion players. I have been banging the drum for some time that Celtic needed to have a nucleus of about half a dozen £6m players which I advocated should have been supplemented with the best of our youth players and some seasoned pros. I think when I first proposed the argument we had about 3 x £6m players – Artur Boruc, Aiden and God I can’t remember. I thought to be honest that we would have to buy these players in at one or two per season. However, due to the brilliance of Lenny, our chief scout (Mr. Park) and Peter Lawell, we seem to have assembled these players at a fraction of the price I thought we would have to pay.
Please correct me if I’m wrong but could we not command £6million + for each of the following:- Gary Hooper, Adam Mathews, Emilio Izzaguirre, James Forrest, Ki Seung Yung and Victor Wanyama?
As well as these ghuys we have other players who are starting to distinguish themselves Rogne, Mulgrew and we now have a team of considerable value who can be expected to kick on from their productive run in the Europa League and maybe reach the last 16 in the CL. We are adding players to our pool. Neil can monitor them and assess if we need to sell any players before we incorporate any of the newbies into the first team pool.
If we win the League our season ticket sales will increase. We need to make sure that we do to further strengthen our hand.
Congratulatons to our Catalunyan brothers, Barcelona on another wonderful victory at the Bernabeu.

I don’t see Sammi losing his place there any time soon, and with Brown in the side (much to your discombobulation, I know), we have Samaras, Forrest, McCourt and Commons, who can all play there.
Lenny has described him as a playmaker, so I’ll go along with that until your tea leaves prove me wrong!

El Clasico, a joy to watch the best team on the planet, Barca never gave up on playing the game the right way, Pep’s birthday as well I believe.
Watched the game in one of the neutral bars in the village, the rest would be Real bars, about 50 or so in the bar, mixed support, and to see grown men crying at the end shaking hands brought a tear to my eye, magic stuff, even better never a cent tonight, the neighbour, a Real man was touting his vino and good it was too.
I wonder if ole CW fears the ex Mrs CW more than the tax man ….could be very interesting hmmmmm

Beautiful, beautiful Barca
My ol’ da’ talks about 1960. Cos he was there and he saw it. Madrid – Franfurt, 7-3. Hampden Park, Glasgow. New formations I am told, a departure from 2-3-5, never been seen on these shores, the beautiful game reached it’s zentith that night. I listened to my ol’ da’ tell me about Ference Puskas, the corpulent Hungarian genius and the legendary Di Stefano. As a child and teenager I knew this was the best game of football ever played – like most kids, I believed my old da’ to be omniscient until the time you start gathering and analysing facts and making conclusions for your very own self.
I bought him the DVD for his birthday and watched the game myself. It was a great watch, excellent football, goals, high degree of technical ability. But it was of it’s time. Players strode around laconically meandering slowly down opposing labyrinths, searching for opportunties. It was a great game but everything progresses.
To my knowledge C30 senior has never watched the DVD I bought, wrapped and presented to him. I don’t think he wants to. My strong suspicion is he would rather retain the memory of that revolutionary evening on the South side of Glasgow, because the game is more beautiful in the left side of his cranium than on the screen.
My ol’ da’ has long since accepted that this current Barca team are the best in history. Don’t get me wrong, he was reluctant at first – “what about Brazil ’70 – Pele, Jairzhino, Rivelhino and don’t forget the Lions, I’m serious, the Lions could beat any XI in history on their day”
Then we watched the Catalans destroy Madrid 6-2 at the Bernabeu a few seasons ago. Together, that evening I think we became Barcelona supporters. At the time I thought that was the most beautiful and complete team performance I had ever witnessed and I kept texting my mates throughout as I realised what was developing – I wanted to share the experience with them as it would never happen again, in the same way my ol’ da’ had seen something unique in 1960.
But then Barca took football to another level entirely. On 29th Nov 2010 they annihilated Real in El Classico, 5-0. The score didn’t matter, it was simply the way they played. Jeez, I nearly cried, if you are a football purist – this is THE game. Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Villa, Pedro – ornate, elaborate passing. That evening I thought football became art.
Many posters and lurkers on this wonderful website will have been in Paradise on the Wednesday when Barry Robson looped a header over the Barca keeper Victor Valdes, before Messi took over. We have had the privelege of playing them regularly in the last ten years, leading to a cordial and mutually beneficial relationship. Both clubs have a similar ethos, which is outwith the scope of this post.
I’d like to watch the game with my ol’ da’ tomorrow but I’m at a family function on the missus side. Nevertheless we will both have access to a screen somewhere and I am sure Barca will have us both off our seats.
Lastly, a confession. C30 senior is 5’5′. I, in comparison am a lofty 5’6′. We have a communal soft spot for vertically challenged geniuses such as Johnstone, Messi, Iniesta and most of all Xavi. I am a huge admirer of Man Utd and think they are worthy European champions, just not while the greatest ever team in the history of football is around.

With reference to the Brazil v Italy ‘beautiful’ game in 1970 – I watched the whole match again recently. In 1970 I thought it was wonderful – the greatest game ever played. However , when I watched it again (November 2011?) it wasn’t up to much. The shooting was woeful. I lost count of the number of times Brazil skied shots 10 yards over the bar. Both teams fouled one another non-stop throughout the game. The pitch was poor. What was brilliant though was the quality of the goals that were scored but these came from sporadic outbreaks of football. Memory plays tricks on you!

I think Lennon is looking for an alternative to Stokes/Hooper up front, and although Sammi and Hooper delivered a victory against the huns, it was by too small a margin for all we dominated the play.
I think in games where Lennon wants (or is forced) to try something different in attack he may opt to use Rabiu. I don’t think that necessarily stops any of Ki/Brown/Ledley/Wanyama from playing.
Take your point about his build, though. Nakamura was a central attacking-type player at Napoli, I think, before Strachan moved him away from the SPL hoe-downers for his own protection, and there he stayed on the right.
Maybe he’s a wiry 5’7″.
