ICC absurd fantasies

“Old Firm game for Wembley”. Heaven help us. I don’t doubt International Champions Cup owner, Charlie Stillitano, has a sharp eye for what he could turn into a commercial success, but there can be fewer worse ideas in the history of sporting endeavour.

So many things could go wrong with such a fixture, some would go wrong, and the contagion would spread to Celtic. There’s no mention in any coverage of this item that Celtic have been consulted at any level, so I’m assuming they were as surprised as the rest of us at the moment (they were at a similar suggestion of a game in Australia a few years ago).

Stillitano cites hosting Manchester City-Manchester United in Beijing later this year as being something of an approximation. It’s not. I suggest he looks to somewhere deep in the Monglian hinterland for a venue for a Glasgow derby of this nature. Even then I would decline.

I agree that the holding at corners is getting out of hand. It is certainly not confined to Italian teams and there are many Scottish and English teams doing it.

My only point was that there is a lot more to Atletico than that. I never saw one of their midfielders saunter back to help out the defenders: they all sprinted back. They are a fine athletic side and I’d love to see a team good enough to beat them.

So let’s check the state of cqn and Celtic tonight.

Paul, in a rather embarrassing squirrel attempt, posts about a fluffy nonsense msm article (and in doing so seems to legitimise the term old firm) and then tells us it’s nonsense.

Err thanks Paul. But your avoidance of the real issues is now beyond embarrassing. That cqn will not discuss or tackle either this or res12 says an awful lot about cqn does it not?

    =====================================================================

And that says a lot about you.

Why don`t you vote with your feet ?

    No Müller either!

You could be forgiven for thinking that Pep doesn’t fancy taking on his new team in the final.

  5. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Good article Paul. After reading it I went onto the Celtic fc website to look for the following :

    “Celtic Football Club Statement

Following erroneous and misleading reports in today’s press, Celtic can confirm that the club has not been approached regarding possible matches at Wembley stadium.

Furthermore the club has absolutely no plans to explore an event of this nature now or at any time in the future”

    Didn’t find it.

    Hail hail

  6. Hunderbirds are Gone on

I think Atletico are a role model for teams like Celtic (today’s Atletico, no those cheating bassas)

With 26% possession, they managed to beat one of the favourites for the big cup and kept a clean sheet.

Just shows what can be done with supreme fitness, a close knit team and a great attitude.

It’s get Iike them, or buy Messi or Ronaldho.

    So its get like them

Atletico’s defensive performance against Barca in the Nou Camp was the best Defensive performance I’ve ever seen – If you ain’t seen it, check it out.

They had the luck as well that augments it.

Defending is most definitely just as big a part of fitba as attacking but the Money is Stifling Everything.

Atletico are lethal when they let rip. Celtic won’t ever be allowed to let rip now because it is all about the Money Nations.

The amounts of Money involved means Celtic can’t do a thing.

    We are where we are.

Even if we were doing better than we are, there would still be a glass ceiling that we cannot expect to compete with.

I’d like the Famous Glasgow Celtic to take their place with all the famous clubs of the world but not just to be the fodder. We are the poor slaves thrown to the lions and the gladiators to be toyed with and eventually beaten. We get a lucky blow in now and again but our assigned role is to lose more often than win against the big star teams.

We either accept that and find a way to live with it or we get ourselves an invite to the top table or somewhere near enough to it that we can leap to it by our own methods.

All else is a slow death as a relevant football team or we just accept that Scotland is our limit and we try to be top dog in a poor backyard.

  11. DD: I arrive in around 7.30am. Will get bus down to Glasgow and will take it from there. I have to meet Sannabhoy to give him proceeds of Dublin hootenanny and arrange for the beautiful artwork to be framed so will be in touch when that is sorted.

FGF/ Sannabhoy Can you email me at

  12. Macjay1. Wow. So that’s your answer is it? Don’t like what someone says so don’t say anything. Isn’t that a rather simple minded approach Macjay.

See the thing is Macjay, since cqn was formed I have been calling Paul out as simply peddling propaganda for the board. I believe that cqn should be held to account for what it publishes and should be questioned.

Do you think this sort of thing is useful or are you into unquestioning blind loyalty and obedience?

Sadly nail on head , this was a great blog full of people digging the dirt , investigating , fearless reporting .errrrrrrr when it involved Old Rangers and Sevco ………Now when we really need the same approach to find out what the hell is happening at our club strangely there is not quite the same appetite…….Paul ??

  21. Macjay1. If someone starts a public blog, espousing that they will put the record straight and to influence the agenda then how on earth is it rude to question both the individual and the site.

As for this bites the hand that feeds. Bollocks. I am simple attempting to ensure we don’t just fall for propaganda and in doing so fail to hold the board accountable. It seems I have failed rather spectacularly at that. But I would suggest it is more than rude to claim this site isn’t lazy journalism meanwhile it steadfastly refusing to discuss the dismal failures of our board and indeed of our host.

This sort of forelock tugging sychopaphancy you have a tendency of displaying is why we end up is these crap situations.

  22. Watching Leicester, to me is like watching Celtic under Martin o’ Neil.

    I find that rude Macjay.
