Illegal EBTs and Sporting Advantage question remains

633

Sir David Murray, Campbell Ogilvie, Dave King, as directors of a football club, you presided over tax evasion. While ordinary men and women have no choice, or criminal urge, to avoid paying for public services, you directed a deception on an industrial scale.

Sir David Murray and Campbell Ogilvie have their influence and signatures all over this act. The SFA was quick to discipline and sine die Craig Whyte after he was out of the game, it must now charge Murray and Ogilvie with bringing the game into disrepute. The stale influence of cronyism at Hampden must be routed and seen to be so.

The SPFL instructed an inquiry three years ago but with this verdict in, the SFA must appoint their own inquiry.

Why did the processes at Hampden allow this to happen and continue without check?

Why did Rangers get their European licence in 2011 despite being in arrears to HMRC, in contravention of that licence?  Who was responsible for this decision?

Why was a director and signatory of Rangers illegal tax schemes elected and reappointed president of the SFA?

How transparent were the SFA and the SPL in their handling of these tax evasion charges?

Was the SPL inquiry commissioned to uncover the facts, or to meet a desired objective?  Who prepared the inquiry remit and who signed off on that remit?

Lord Nimmo Smith found that legally executed Employee Benefit Trusts did not confer a significant sporting advantage.  In light of what I have already read of the verdict, we must now discover if such widespread illegal Employee Benefit Trusts conferred a sporting advantage.  This question has not been asked yet.

It’s time for football to shake off the shackles of corruption in Scotland, as elsewhere.

“He who does not bellow the truth when he knows the truth makes himself the accomplice of liars and forgers” Charles Peguy (1873 – 1914) need I say more?

  2. Just a thought on who is liable to pay any tax now due.

While, normally, it is the employers responsibility to deduct page at source in this case the players, through their agents, sought and received, written assurances that the differential between their registered contracts and “real” wages would be met via EBT. Since this, now proven, illegal scheme was entered into by both parties in the full knowledge that it’s legality could be challenged, if not administered exactly as designed by Mr Baxendale Walker, would either or even both parties to the scheme not be liable for any subsequent penalties and charges?

Also isn’t it funny that this is the first time the huns have been unhappy at getting penalties.

  4. No doubt Celtic “legends” will be wheeled out by the media to say to say they don’t want any retrospective action taken on the leagues won by the cheating club. They would do well to remember they were paid to play for Celtic,it’s the supporters view that should be taken into account after we all we bought the season tickets, followed the team in Scotland and Europe and bought the merchandise. As we suspected it wasn’t a level playing as Iam sure the board already knew. They very quickly sorted out the Juninho EBT and I believe privately warned Rangers about EBTs illegality. It really is time the board issued a statement to show their support and take the lead in exposing the corruption endemic in Scottish Football.Doubt this will happen we will probably have to wait for the next golf tournament in St Andrews to hear anything from DD.

    How to get justice ?

Many on here decrying what happened, wailing that the MSM are doing what they have always done.

The charade of the LNS outcome would be a good starting point.

  11. Molde boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: I wish I’d played at Celtic during my career

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he feels “envious” of his Molde players who will get the chance to play at Celtic Park on Thursday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he feels “envious” of his Molde players who will get the chance to play at Celtic Park on Thursday night.

The former Manchester United striker played in top stadiums all over the world during an illustrious career and is best known for scoring the winner for the Red Devils against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final at the Nou Camp.

Solskjaer, 42, scored against Celtic in the Champions League at Old Trafford in September 2006 but it still rankles that he missed the return game in Glasgow two months later through injury, having to settle for visits to the stadium with former United team-mate Roy Keane, who latterly had a spell with the Hoops.

Speaking at Celtic Park ahead of the Europa League Group A clash with the Scottish champions, the Molde boss said: “It is a fantastic place to play football and I am sure all the boys are looking forward to it.

“I have only been here as a spectator before.

“I never had the chance to walk out to the pitch so in one way I am one way very envious of the players who will feel the atmosphere tomorrow night.

“I was here with Roy Keane to watch a couple of games and it is fantastic, it is like football should be.

“It was a Champions League game if I remember correctly – they never asked for tickets from Roy, they just opened the door so he could walk straight through.

“The atmosphere here could probably match the top clubs in the world like Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“Celtic was always the team to go to when my team-mates had testimonial games, Roy for example.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere between the clubs and supporters and it is one of the stadiums I wished I had played in.”

Solskjaer returned to manage Molde for the second time the day before the 3-1 victory over Ronny Deila’s side at the Aker Stadion last month.

He said: “Celtic had the possession and dominated the game and we hit them on the break really well.

“The goals were top class but although 3-1 was a great result, the boys can perform better.”

The win kept the Norwegian outfit top of the section on seven points, after a 3-1 win over Fenerbahce in Turkey and a 1-1 home draw with Ajax.

Ronny Deila’s side are bottom with two points and the former Norway striker believes the Hoops’ need to win will “probably” suit Molde’s counter-attacking style.

He said “They have to get at us, they have to win the game.

“It will be a tough game but the boys have put themselves in a fantastic position.

“They have been great in the first three matches so I am sure they are looking forward to this one.

“Celtic need to win this one to have a chance to go through and sometimes it is a good position to be in. The players have to go out and try to win.

“My players can sample the atmosphere, enjoy it and they don’t have the pressure in terms of we have to win the game.

“But if we win the game we are through so that is a great carrot for us.”

I’m just off Arsenal Quick news there and it’s in meltdown. The London Beefeater is blaming the lefties, Mr Cornish Pasty is winding them all up, Kevin the Gooner is rounding on their board and cheap choice of manager and Toni Donnelli the Gooner of Italian extraction has called out Wenger on the strength of an O level in French the manager got in 1971. He thinks he’s above himself apparently. I will keep you posted as the second half unfolds.

Unless I missed it or it was the Orc equivalent of ‘Awe nawed’????

  21. So … a big dead company did it to our poor wee club and then ran away. Some excuse.

Presumably the new company would now wish to disassociate itself from the nasty deeds of the former company with which it has no relationship? Or will they continue to insist they bought the tainted titles? Is that not akin to an admission of buying stolen property??

Sevco’s routine response to getting caught being supported by their friends in the media and at the SFA- fingers in ears and eyes shut until the fuss dies away while covering the truth with a bizarre fantasy story that will be repeated until it becomes accepted by the General public. Scotland protects its own.

  24. Murdochauldandhay

That is a very good article on the offshore game.net, illustrating well the damage that was done to the game through deidco’s financial cheating and the mockery that was made of supporters paying good money to watch a rigged game.

A couple of songs spring to mind.. . . . .” Once bitten, twice shy,” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again”.

Clubs better get started convincing supporters who were fleeced that it won’t happen again, and supporters better get busy warning them that if they don’t succeed, there won’t be a game in Scotland to support for much longer.
