Important takeaways from Uefa comment on Postecoglou

364

Today’s news cycle is dominated by comments from a Uefa spokesperson who confirmed Celtic have applied for an exemption for Ange Postecoglou from holding a Uefa Pro Licence.  There are important takeaways from this.

Ange’s signature must be on this application.  This could only happen if he had permission from Yokohama, his current employer, and contract terms had been agreed.

Exemption will be granted, this facility is there to provide for candidates like Ange.  The Pro Licence requirement is there to ensure standards in the European game, not to act as a closed shop.  Celtic are pursuing a similar Work Permit application to allow him to take up employment in this country.  This will occupy another day’s news cycle, but Ange will meet this requirement too.

Yes, Ange will not be able to take charge of a Celtic game for weeks, but our June schedule has been kind in this respect.  There is nothing to stop him planning a squad or backroom team for next season, I expect he is at least a week into this process.  If he’s good enough, the hassle getting him here is worth it.

Pretty gutted at the booing when England players took the knee at the Riverside Stadium last night.  Must be horrible for the players.  Hard to believe we are in 2021.

Why say they wont? If you’re going to get your ducks in a row best wait until until they’ve finished mating.

Quite right- I was responding to too many points at the one time and I got that dead wrong. Scorsese was not responsible for the Godfather Trilogy but he has dabbled in that area again with The Irishman which did not do justice to the varied life of Jimmy Hoffa.

I actually liked Raging Bull but still love The Last Waltz and Rick Danko’s singing.

A great film. Love Burt and that wee lassie from across the river pint too bad.

One of my favourites and still a great film, On the Waterfront.

If it’s to big Angelo, then we need to get him over here pronto. Back the team, sack the board… You know the song.

    Aye spot on.

We knew there was going to be a ‘dirty tricks’ campaign to prevent the 10. Apart from Lenny, we still sat at the back of the bus and said fek all.

Privately seething ??? give me a break!

  9. Thanks AT, an interesting listen. I think this helps to understand his career record to date. He takes some time to get going and get players to buy in, when they do they tend to have success. Turnover at his Japanese club seems bonkers (15 arrivals and departures each season) so he’s probably struggled during COVID.

    Some red flags though:

    1. He talks about his way of playing like it’s revolutionary- and it probably has been in Oz and Japan. It’s pretty common in Europe though and is effectively just the Barcelona/Man City approach – patient possession, high pressing, etc.

    2. he talks about telling his players a story about doing the impossible – not sure that will work with our lot – we still have some invincibles knocking around, and there’s a risk their thinking “we’ve achieved more than you fella”;

    3. He doesn’t really talk to his players and it takes a while for them to get used to him…hmmm…that doesn’t bode well; and

    4. His assistants tend not to hang around long – he talks about changing them to challenge himself but you’d have thought he had that one person (even if they are just the kit man or a PA-type) who he’d have worked with his whole career and he trusts. It’s weird he doesn’t…

  10. Petrescu’s career history is pretty much do well at a Romanian club, jump ship to chase the cash in the Middle East, get sacked and return to Romania, repeat…

Not sure that’s the type of guy we want taking over at this stage (or ever tbh).

Renewed my ticket last night…probably against my better judgement but it’s in the blood and our pathetic board know this

  12. All these Posts about Brian Wilson ( So Called Captain Sensible), and his view on how the Hun Mob SHOULD have been ” Handled” etc ?

Now I have NO idea where Brian Wilson lives, but I would wager that he would NOT have had to put up with the thousands of the Hun Mob literally on HIS own Doorstep ?

Likewise, the so called Poster on here ” JHB”, who agrees with Wilsons views.

    JHB lives in ENGLAND !!!!…

Its all too easy for those in their comfy Tory strongholds, with their Pro Union Jack views to sit back and tell the rest of us who happen to live in Scotland and Glasgow in particular, how we SHOULD make exceptions for the Huns simply because they are ” the Peepil”.

To ” JHB”, Brian Wilson and others…YOU are all most welcome to the Hun Hordes on YOUR Doorstep at every turn, including their planned FOUR Orange Walks through Glasgow on 1st July 2021, which they have already applied for…NOT Including the further ” Walks” for the rest of July.

How would you all like that ?…..NAW…I didnt think so ?

  13. Brian Wilson must have KNOWN that Sevco had requested permission to have FOUR SEPARATE Days of so called ” Celebration” Inside Ipox, with each day having 10,000 Hun Scum inside, and Thousands MORE OUTside Ipox at the same time….with NO ASSURANCES that the Thousands of Huns , would have marched on George Square after any ” Celebrations” at Ipox and/or Murray Park ( or whatever its called now ?)

SFTB…It appears that you agree with Brian Wilson ( Apologises IF I am wrong ?)…Sorry but I strongly disagree.

My wife was quietly happy it didn’t work out for the ten , for two reasons .

    1. There’s no way i would have sat in the house , i’d have been at Paradise outside celebrating with thousands of JUBILANT Celtic fans.

BREAKING Covid rules is a no no for her . ME , doing the ten …….

For her (my safety was paramount)

    2. She said , you realise the Brigton thugs and the hoardes will travel far and wide to disrupt/attack any Celtic fans celebrating , will be bedlam / chaos.

And take into account how the “HUNS on HORSEBACK ” 😂would have dealt with us .

I know some will say thats irresponsible , i wont get the chance ever to have a sniff of doing the ten again …..so sad we fkd it up .

Sergei Rebrov is another one who looks more promising and as SPIDEY101 alluded to, might be a steadier bet than Petrescu.

To be fair, Alex Ferguson quite regularly changed his right-hand man and felt it kept him fresh.

Maybe there’s not a one-size-fits all approach regarding this.

  19. `One Flew Over the Cuckoo`s Nest`

    Cheerio for now.

  20. Godfather 1 and 2 are probably my favourites but these suggestions seem very Hollywood-centric.

Check out the Vengeance Trilogy – Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance but make sure you get the original Korean versions, not the diabolical American remakes.

The Koreans really know how to make a great movie.

  21. GeeBee,

Rebrov is a good shout. I did wonder earlier in the managerial hunt if the Desmond’s friendship with Shevchenko may lead to him taking on the gig but appears not.

True on Fergie – I don’t have a problem that he changes coaching staff (or staff generally) regularly, just find it odd there isn’t someone on his staff who’s stuck around for the duration. With Fergie, I think he always had his brother in a scouting type role so he had the sounding board…

Anyway – the least of the issues I have with this appointment – the main one being he’s a guy who needs time to embed ideas and he won’t be here anytime soon…

The delay is what concerns me most.

I just wonder if he was announced in February and unveiled when the season ended if there’d be the same level of vitriol. Of course, there’d be many who would quite rightly question his CV but it might’ve been slightly more comforting to know he was our number one choice (even if he wasn’t), was settled in the country and had spent the last few weeks identifying targets and assessing the squad.

I thought Steve Clarke was smarter than to get suckered by a sleekit journo into passing comment on Celtic .

A simple ‘I’m here to talk about Scotland’ would have done . Especially as he would be stuffed without the Celtic contingent in his squad .

  30. Having read that article, I can’t see how the Scottish team’s situation is any different from Celtic going to Dubai. Personally, I think it sounds a lot lot worse. We complied with their protocols.

It reminds me of their celebration after David Marshall’s penalty save. The SNP Government simply ignored their drinking and boogying together.

You’re right. We were treated very differently .

  32. BIG AJER……..

Although he’s not the best CH in the air i hate the thought of him not being here next season .

Right back or in a “quicker ” Morten Weighorst (SP) role middle of the park would maybe suit him better .

    BIG JULES…….

Still has to convince me he’s the real deal , hopefully comes back muscled up and raring to go .

These are the only two who i think are captain material in the squad as it stands now .

That’s how short of talent and leadership in the team we have now .

    TURNBULL …..

Could be a future captain if he continues to develop (hopefully he stays)

The big fella Hjelde (SP) (he’s young) played at left back on loan at Ross County although he’s a CH has a great chance to impress.

At one point i was hoping CALMAC would pick up a wee injury (nothing serious) to give him a well deserved break , the guys a shadow of his former self , although my favourite player i wouldn’t give him the captaincy….some people are better/ more comfortable taking orders than giving them ……in any job .

Anyhoo….. bored shitless and just emptying thoughts going through this auld bonce .

A new day ……you can fill in the next line 😂
