This time last year there was far too much talk about trebles on these pages. Celtic were flying in all three competitions, having established a lead in the league, and were heading for a League Cup semi-final against Falkirk. Falkirk were beaten but it took a late Anthony Stokes goal to make the game safe for Celtic. The script was written; a final against Kilmarnock, who always bottled it against Celtic in Glasgow, and a successful run in the Scottish Cup was all that stood between us and the fourth treble in our history.
I’ve lost count of how many such trebles we’ve look forward to. Football has a way of promising lots but it takes an exceptionally good and consistent team to win both cup competitions, as well as the league. More often than not, great and dominant teams don’t win the treble.
Celtic are a great and exciting team but they have not been nearly consistent enough to win the treble this season. We have lost two from eight home games and two from seven away. Good enough to win the league but not to win two cups.
I watched a bit of St Mirren at home to Ross County before heading to Celtic Park last weekend. They were far from impressive but no less so than when we beat them by seven goals in the SPL four years ago. The following week the same team knocked us out of the Scottish Cup.
Sunday is one of the biggest games currently on the roster. Raise your game, Celtic.

That’s what you get when you field a fringe side Arry
Lissandro Lopez, the Lyon centre forward linked with a move to Juventus, was withdrawn during the warm up to last night’s match against Valenciennes with a recurrence of a calf injury, first sustained at the end of November. It seems that he could be out for several weeks. Will Juventus risk taking him on?

QPR won’t give a monkeys about being knocked out of the FA Cup.
Staying in the EPL is all that matters. By doing that, they will make far more money than if they had even won the FA Cup.
Sad but true.
In the car was listening to SSB.

It’s perfectly balanced – bfj on one end of the seesaw and the rest on the other
With 500 million fans worldwide proportionally they need a lot of pundits-Ally demands it!
Is SSB still sposored by Mc.Call, Sevco owner-in- waiting?
The Resident,
Logically that would make sense – but I guess it would be bad commercially. Having them at different times means they can maximise TV money.
I think UEFA have made a bad move in expanding the Euros to 24 teams – it will just dilute the quality. The last few World Cups have been pretty dire. The Euros have been much better to watch – fewer, better teams.
Oops.
Meant to say

Bit of feedback on the tech side. I’m using a Samsung Tab 2 and when I refresh the page it takes me back to the most recent post I’ve made instead of the latest post in the article. Had never noticed this until I started posting yesterday.
Any tips as to a solution to this?

Commercialism is quite possibly and highly likely to be the major factor in why it has not happened I agree, more so than any possible climactic worries. I would counter that though with the point that having them staged at the same time would actually increase the Global audience. Having billions of football fans viewing 6 tournaments, possibly 24hrs a day given timezone differences would maximise commercial interests even further.
Think the jury is still out on an expanded Euros, for myself anyway. Until it happens we dont know if itwill be a success or failure. Hopefully it will offer more excitement and fan interaction than the last World Cup, which, as you were correct, was as exciting as going shopping with the missus.
Warren and Meekings will miss the final if ICT get through.
Hearts will be without Scott Robinson if they do.

Norwich getting beaten by non league Luton. Would Hooper really want to move there? Madness if he does.
