Inconsistency costs Celtic cups

1483

This time last year there was far too much talk about trebles on these pages.  Celtic were flying in all three competitions, having established a lead in the league, and were heading for a League Cup semi-final against Falkirk.  Falkirk were beaten but it took a late Anthony Stokes goal to make the game safe for Celtic.  The script was written; a final against Kilmarnock, who always bottled it against Celtic in Glasgow, and a successful run in the Scottish Cup was all that stood between us and the fourth treble in our history.

I’ve lost count of how many such trebles we’ve look forward to.  Football has a way of promising lots but it takes an exceptionally good and consistent team to win both cup competitions, as well as the league.  More often than not, great and dominant teams don’t win the treble.

Celtic are a great and exciting team but they have not been nearly consistent enough to win the treble this season.  We have lost two from eight home games and two from seven away.  Good enough to win the league but not to win two cups.

I watched a bit of St Mirren at home to Ross County before heading to Celtic Park last weekend.  They were far from impressive but no less so than when we beat them by seven goals in the SPL four years ago.  The following week the same team knocked us out of the Scottish Cup.

Sunday is one of the biggest games currently on the roster.  Raise your game, Celtic.

  10. A Ceiler Gonof Rust on

After having spent the best part of today digging my house and cars out of the snow in the frozen waste of Angus, I found myself with a spare ten minutes and decideded to take Henr1ks advice re the Galloway EDM. So I peened an email to my MP Mike Weir.

“Dear Mr Weir, I write to draw your attention to the Early Day Motion Raised in parliament by George Galloway MP on 14.01.2013 with reference to Rangers FC and to urge you to add your support to this motion. It appears to me that the current owners of the football club operating out of Ibrox Park Glasgow are behaving in an extremely arrogant and crass manner by portraying themselves to be exactly the same club who were recently liquidated while owing tens of millions of pounds to both the Inland Revenue and a large number of creditors. These same owners were recently quoted in various media purporting to be cash rich, debt free and about to embark on a major capital expenditure program with money received from a recent share issue and from private investments.

As my MP, I trust you will agree that if the club currently calling themselves Rangers FC are indeed the same club as they claim, then it’s only right and fitting that they are pursued for monies left unpaid both to the public purse and to out of pocket creditors. In these times of recession and hardship it is nothing short of sickening to witness the daily press reports from Ibrox where they claim to be the most affluent football club in Scotland in the knowledge that taxes and NI contribution went unpaid and businesses are suffering through their previous mismanagement and unethical business practices.

    Yours sincerely

Interesting questions. Don’t know if you’re involved in the debate and if it’s appropriate to suggest this, but just in case.

I think there are simpler ways to prove that everyone knows the ‘same club’ thing is a big fib.

    TUPE.

If TUPE applied in the move from the dead club as employer of McCulloch, Alexander, Wallace, blah, blah, blah to the club they play for now, self-evidently they have changed employer.

Only a football club can be their employer when they play football for a living. If TUPE applied, they have changed employer, therefore they have changed clubs.

TUPE doesn’t apply if you move to Australia but still work for the same employer. TUPE only applies when your employer changes. So if TUPE applied, the employer is not the same as it was before.

I think this is clear, and it’s obvious from these statements from Fraser Wishart at PFA Scotland that he does too. And so does Charles Green.

    and

    http://pfascotland.co.uk/2012/news/pfa-scotland-explains-tupe-position/

The second one contains this gem: “We are delighted therefore to note that both Mr Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agree with the union’s position that that the Transfer of Undertaking (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 (“TUPE”) applies to the Players’ contracts of employment in the event of a transfer from The Rangers FC PLC to a newco.”

    Thank you Fraser.

I suggest if you are offered 1/100 on an oppossing player being sent off today you keep your money. The stats say it’s a 2-1 chance.

Once in 30 yrs of running did it get serious.. I was eastwoodmains rd , Glasgow South, in my ” celtic green” view from jacket and 3 of the uglies called me a Fenian b and came after me- for no reason..( other than my good Celtic looks). I d to take the back roads home. Sadly now they d catch me, I m not as quick as I once was..

    —————————————————————————————————————-

before i was seriously fat i quite liked to go a good bike ride out and around renfrewshire backroads or across the erskine bridge up the cycle way to glasgow and back down the old a8 to home,

my chosen attire was a bottle green umbro rain jacket with the big umbro logo on the back.

    no celtic insignia at all.

had two nasty incident, one at the red smiddy pedalling along a car of muppets put the windows down and game the the f.b abuse, so as is my want i gave them a wee vicky back,

didnt feel so smart 5 mins later when they came back along behind me and papped a lucozabe bottle out the window hitting my shoulder, and more abuse, thank feck they didnt stop.

another time i went along the canal path through clydebank, and up through yoker, got to where the albion motor works was and a few lads started given me abuse, so got down off the pathway, just under the bridge there and peddaled right into an orange walk, ffs,

    scary stuff, but got away,

    hey ho.

think i will start going out again once the new roads are complete around bishy, was out a walk there, and the zombie sevconians where getting on their bus, boy oh boy they dont like me, hehehheheh
