  1. I thought Forrest was vert slow and sluggish when he came on.I know RD brought him on to have a run at the Inter defence, but he could not get near the ball. When he did he was very weak. Many times our midfield were looking for him to make some movement for them, but he was hiding behind Inter players.Look at the effort Johansen put in the last 15 minutes, and compare that to Forrests.I am not making him a scapegoat,I like Forrest, but no use standing up for him on tonights showing.

    The referee.Good God.A disgrace.

  2. James Forrest has more natural ability than most in the Celtic team. He’s shown the pace and talent he has.

The problem is that he’s not fit for long enough periods to be effective these days.

We didn’t lose because of him.

  3. No point in arguing guys. We were superb. We were cheated. But we are good now and are going to get much much better. The improvement over the last 3 months is amazing. I really think we are at the beginning of something wonderful. It is, as always, a great time to be a Tim.

    Hail Hail

  4. Europe is over

A win on Sunday is now the be all and end all for the rest of the season.

Put 6 points between us and the Sheep and another three next midweek at home to St Johnstone and we have a 9 point lead that is unassailable when we go on cup duty.

    Huge games keep on coming.

It is great to be a Celtic fan.

There’s a treble to be won.

Get the team ready for next season now.

Get business done early in June and get into the Champions league

  5. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

For me, tonight convinced me that Guidetti is not good enough to lead the line.

He has less mobility than Stokes and I was surprised that he was not subbed after the red card.

We needed GMS as an out ball.

Forrest was supposed to do that, in theory, but it never worked out.

It was a shame that Griffiths was injured, as he would have given the energy that James couldn’t and the movement that John can’t

  6. Well, if anyone felt they needed a lesson in the sheer cynicism of European – and particularly Italian – football, you got one there.

A club which has massively overspent, is in debt up to its eyeballs, is owned by a dodgy venture capitalist from God knows where, is in breach of FFP regulations, yet comes from one of the big leagues, STILL needs the help of a compliant referee to sneak a win over us.

Sickened, but too old now to be surprised.

On the specific decisions – Armstrong’s was a clear foul. Definite pen. Guidetti’s was exactly the same – EXACTLY the same – as the one Juve won against us all those years ago. Still waiting for that one to “even up”

VVD went off for one perfectly good tackle and one foul. How that was construed as two yellows is scandalous. Meanwhile Guarin – who score the decisive goal – remains on the park after a forearm smash which draws blood.

To top it all, you have Icari demanding a red card almost before he hit the ground. Appalling.

As for us – we were the better team till the red, and would I believe have won the tie.

GMS and Armstrong have completely reinvigorated this team, and Johanssen is an immense player for us now. Ditto Biton.

I felt sorry for Guidetti, and for GMS, but I guess Ronnie was trying to eke out a tactical escape. Jamsie looked lost when he came on. Simply running blindly straight at players in the hope they’ll get outta your way isn’t good enough at this level, but that’s for another day.

Overall, a sickening way to exit the competition. Difficult not to have a bad taste in your mouth after that.

JF has been Celtic’s best player in the past. Give the boy a feckin chance. Not fitting in to the team ? The same was said of half the team at the start of the season – never mind the mince aimed at RD.

It is all about opinions and mine is that he fitted in well when we had Lenny’s style of play but IMO he does not fit in THIS team.

I don’t think the criticism on Forrest is solely based on his performance tonight.

  9. North Cyprus (formerly Baku) Bhoy on

And, apart from one adventurous break upfield, when he only lost the ball to a very good tackle, did Oor Efe do anything wrong? However, I don’t think that he should have been brought on in the first place, as Nir Bitton could have easily gone back into the CH position, at least until half-time.

  10. What is it with Celtic minded pundits.John Hartson”It might have been a penalty””Maybe the bookings were a BIT harsh”No,John,it was a push in the back.Penalty.It was a wonderful tackle.Never a yellow.FFS,tell the truth.

  12. wrong subs , anyone could have done better thzan forrest. He never tried a leg! shocking! Henderson shows the amount of effort required , then you have a chance of making it as a professional

So he was just doing the decent thing by not showing up his team-mates? They had tired due to playing the whole of the match, much of it a man down. JF was fresh off the bench and should have been putting his 90 minutes’ effort into the mere 30 minutes he spent on the pitch. He didn’t.

    I agree 100%

  14. Colour Blind Bhoy on

I hope that the disappointment of tonight leads to the Bhoys giving Aberdeen a real going over on Sunday. It would be great to get a convincing victory to give us a giant step forward to the most important leg of a domestic treble.

  15. Agree. Two bhoy He did dive to much not sure if he is the answer. Has he the mentality to become a good striker. Who is the goon with the long hair in the BT studio ?

You’ve actually got to have the ball before you can do anything with it. I’m no great fan of JF but I’m not going to let my petty prejudices blame him for tonight’s defeat.

  17. Croppybhoy

RD is still a rookie at this level and it was interesting to hear the BT panel criticise his substitutions -so perhaps he still has a way to go

    ………………………………………………

So which BT panellist should Ronny be asking for advice.

In a managerial way of course.

Are these guys better than what we have?

Seriously challenge that given we’ve just been knocked out of Europe.

Jason Denayer is a year long loan, and Superman Van Dijk will have benefitted from his £10,000,000 move to the EPL.

That’s a serious dent in any CL progress, providing of course we see off Aberdeen.

Have Celtic made plans for their departure, if they have it’ll be a CL first

  19. What the team needs on Sunday is 50,000 + roaring them on and everyone to a man singing

Oh Ronny Ronny, Ronny Ronny Ronny Ronny Deila

  20. No wish to make any scapegoats tonight and am genuinely gutted we lost on the night although we rarely threatened their goal. Had it been XI v XI and zero-zero with 20 to go I would have backed us but the ref put paid to that

No surprise about the ref being dire of course- against the supposed aristocracy of European football not many teams get anything unless they are in that particular elite. That clown was pretty much par for the course

Onwards to Sunday and hopefully a treble

Report them to the club and ban them for life lol why not just shoot him incase he try’s to sneak back in.

People need to get a grip :-(

  23. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Another gallant failure but this time I have hope I really believe Rony knows what he is doing and is going to build a very competitive Celtic side that will pick up many awards and do well in Europe. We are at a disadvantage as our league is poor and we dont have the cash of the European giants but we are looking really good I think this is the best Celtic midfield I have seen in a long time. H.H.

  24. Just wonder if those having a go at James Forrest are the same ones demanding we get rid of our manager. Maybe not.

Let our manager decide if he stay or go. I imagine the reason he took off GMS is that the lhad hasn’t had the training regime long enough to allow him to run for the 90 minutes. I suspect too that if Leigh Griffiths hadn’t been injured, we wouldn’t have seen James Forrest at all.

Enjoy the moment, lhads. Our team are playing the best football any Celtic team has played for years. Imo, they will get better.

  25. Aberdeen I can’t wait to play you this weekend. We need to pass our disappointment on and unfortunately for you, we play you next, we are going to pulverize ye.

  27. I posted before the game about dodgy penalties given against us in Europe. What is it with us and foreign refs.We never get a break from them.Ever.

Talk about Scottish refs.If thats the standard of foreign refs that some on here go on about,I will take Gollum, thanks.

  28. VVD was a silly boy. Whilst the ref was atrocious, Virgils second offence was foolish given his earlier booking. The Italian media labelled him clumsy pre match and he lived up to it.

Maybe that’s why no big bids have come in.

I absolutely understand why Ronny took off GMS, it was the obvious choice.

I actually thought John G did well and we missed him when he went off, but again, I understood the substitution.

Wee James is not a lone striker but was up there to stretch them. He struggled, no surprise.

I think we maybe blundered by not bringing Scepovic, but who knew?

KC came on and did his best (the long range shot) and his worst (a terrible touch a few mins before their goal).

All in all, terrific spirit by a young team.
