  1. Gerrybhoy: All Ireland football final in Croke Park. Dublin v Mayo. Probably best supported amateur sporting event this weekend. 82,000 in attendance.

An Teach Solais: Tickets should be easier to get for the replay, if there is only one match. Still won’t be easy to get one though. I attended the Leinster final, All Ireland quarter final and semi final but that counts for nothing come the final (or replay).

  2. Jumped ???? Humped the other night…….

Although in some places not the Nou Camp both sort of mean the same

Is it not an unwritten rule on the blog that during Celtic games only Celtic is discussed.

    Not that it bothers me.

    HH.

  4. Brendan is surely a poor manager. Otherwise he’d have came in and turned us around immediately.

  5. Just a thought….

CG was sometimes horrible last year!

Great keeper but so out of sorts and some really deplorable European performances.

I don’t know why his form slumped so much but folk should remember that it did.

If DDV does nothing more than bring CG up to his previous level then that will be worth it.

it has also to be said that since VVD and to a lesser extent JD left our back 4/5 has been far stable….which is not good from any goalkeepers point of view.

    HH

  6. The goalie is a dud!

    He is Brendan’s choice.

How many goals do we need to lose before Brendan realises this?

ES is also a dud, but right now we don’t have anyone to take his place.

    Maybe Simo is the answer.

    ES aint!

Like many other posters I am not convinced by De Vries. Since the Aberdeen game I have not witnessed one contribution to suggest that he is better than Craig Gordon.

Maybe in time he will prove his worth, but at Celtic he does not have that time.

I trust Brendan will be ruthless.

    ———–

Keepers are always a strange one for managers.

They can sign any other postilion and drop those players if it’s not working but once they decide to drop a keeper that’s final.

Did Brendan not do the same at Liverpool and it came back to bite him when the keeper got injured??

Are you too much of a keyboard pussy to name the poster?

what’s that supposed to mean , i think you have directed that question to the wrong poster.

Unwritten rules…… I don’t even know about the written ones :-)

By the way all the best toothed 46 LMS’s who are waiting on Spurs, at least it’s week3 last week of the buy back……keep those glasses half full, we canny win every game even in the Spl

Hope that you are successful in getting a ticket for the replay. True supporters like your good self deserve to be rewarded. Been on the old Hill 16 in my younger days and enjoyed the exciting and emotional matches.

Hope somebody with influence at CP is listening to your plea for cafe facilities within the concourse. HH

  11. The camera zoomed in on Craig Gordon after the equaliser, his face spoke volumes!

I for one would prefare CG in goals for us.

As for Dorus’s passing the ball out, my heart is in my mouth as he puts defenders under unnecessary pressure at times.

For by that, it’s never easy going up there for us and we can’t win them all.

  12. Drop that result, the Barcá one and it’s 4 goals lost in 3 games, 2 wins and a draw.

Now that’s a much more relevant stat.

DDV may not be the answer, but CG’s form had dropped.

If he get’s form back and DDV doesn’t impress then he might get back in.

But to continue to repeat he lost 7 against Barcá doesn’t really help your point.

Who was in gals when we lost 6 goals in the Camp Nou a couple of years ago?

It was Fraser Forster, not a bad keeper.

  13. Good post Exiled Tim, Saved me typing it.

Brendan is very short in places, Take a few windows to get it right, Seemed very much like watching Liverpool at times today, We are too easy to score against STILL and not clinical enough up front. IF Leigh was playing today we would have won.

Gomboa first game I know but is he any better than Saidy? time will tell.

Gordon is a million times better than DDV.

Anyway I was worried after Barca that these Champions league thrashing could derail our season and I hope today was just a blip.

    MOTM= Their keeper.

    KLV

  14. One of those days,

The more their keeper excelled and we hit the woodwork the more i felt the sucker punch was coming.

  15. Afternoon

Said at half time we needed at least one more and the equaliser had a sense of inevtability. Their keeper made some fine saves for sure but none of our attempts was clinical either- low into the corner. The best chances fell to Erik and Stuart A both of whom missed the target. These are all things that can be worked on though

As can the defence but we really are shipping goals these days – I have to admit to more anxiety on this as BR’s Liverpool was never reliable defensively. ICT has had a handful of attacks got two goals and we almost gifted them another two. Get it sorted

Dorus DeVries looks very ordinary to me- but to me Gordon looked totally unconvincing too.

As for the penalty/free kick/ ordering off thst never were I thought it probaby was a foul- but that the one earlier in the half seemed a more clear cut foul.

A sobering week but no great crisis and on another day we might have won 8-2. Hopefully though Leigh will be back soon and that wee Paddy will rediscover his form

    Jim

  16. BR downfall at Liverpool was not sorting out their defence , they were great on attack , but their defending was awful.

  17. How did Erik go from future captain and stalwart to a dud in two games?

    Serious question?

When Croker was getting it’s makeover, I was there prob about three times a week, work, and at each visit I managed to relieve the skips of a few bits from Hill 16, they look like just any other bit of rubble but at least I know where they came from, they sit pride of place with a few bits of sandstone from the Valley of the Kings and Luxor Temple.

Gerrybhoy: All Ireland football final in Croke Park. Dublin v Mayo. Probably best supported amateur sporting event this weekend. 82,000 in attendance.

ALMORE: That’s great for you and others who are interested in that. It just tended to get in the way of the running commentary on here our team’s action today in a game in progress. Celtic Quick News. No insult intended. It just seemed a bit inappropriate when we were going through the Hoops towards the end of our game. Hope your experience went well!

  20. Gordon lost a penalty at Hearts which was not a penalty.

He lost a penalty At Perth and a bad goal.

He lost two terrbile goals in Israel but I think it had more to do with Janko running into him and Tierney being in his way. He also saved the penalty that proved decisive in that game.

De Vries makes no big saves, passes the ball out to defenders allowing the opposition to pressurize our defenders and get opportunities.

He is not the answer and I don’t want him getting more chances. He is a more of a problem than Gordon ever was.

  21. GFTB: Cheers. Very exciting game, lots of scores in it and plenty of drama. On form, Dublin should have won it. They play the best football in the country.

They weren’t on form today but Mayo couldn’t take advantage. One OG in a game is rare, two meant their bad luck would continue. The replay will be a very different game, I think.

An Teach Solais: I would love the café to be raised at the agm, if for no other reason than to push the issue. My first visit to Celtic Park was in 1995. At that time, the ‘superstore’ was a chuck wagon over by the old ticket office. You couldn’t even browse, you pretty much had to know what you wanted to buy. There wasn’t a great deal of variety in what you could buy either. The superstore shows that if you build it fans will support it.

Same is true of the ‘Kerrydale’ on match days.

Now, if there was a café, I’m sure it would be supported by fans on match days and would get regular business by those visiting/passing the stadium on other days.

  22. What can you say?

We played much better in the second half yet ended drawing.

Some would say, that’s the joy of football, not, of course, any of us when it’s just happened to our team.

We didn’t finish ICT off, sometimes that’s just what happens in football. Remember,it’s easy to blame the defence, but we had plenty of chances to increase our lead its a team game. Onwards to 6 in a row I say.

  23. Keeper is dreadful. DEFENCE WITHOUT Toure is not organised. We needed to buy a centre forward and defensive midfielder in window

  24. RON67 on 18TH SEPTEMBER 2016 5:46 PM

But had a good defence at Swansea. Lost less than a goal a game in promotion season which is good for that league. One difference he has at the moment from Swamsea is he doesn’t have the midfielders to play the way he wants and that leaves us liable to lose goals, many goals when we play in Europe.

  25. JIMMYNOTPAUL

Onwards to 6 in a row I say

    ===========================

Eyes on the prize and fair play to ye.

It’s good to listen to our manager and what he will develop in the next year or two.

  26. Gerrybhoy: No offence taken. It is rare that GAA and Celtic compete for my affections. I was just providing updates, the ‘scroll on by’ was always an option.

TET: Fair play. Croker is an awesome stadium. I would love to see the Hill remain intact, but with the Cusack and Hogan stands connected above it.

  27. Jmccormack

Fair point re petulance. You probably have a good point.

Prophets of doom are ten a penny around where I sit and it is easy to become frustrated with it as many love to tell you how ‘they told you so’.

It has been such since as far as I can remember. My uncle when watching yogi in Milan when we played Feyenoord was my earliest recollection.

He was actually right too !

  28. Doc

Never leave early. Disappointed to drop points after playing so well. How good was their goalie?

Forrest deserves a start ahead of Roberts who was quiet. Thought McGregor did well and if Leigh was playing we’d have been out of sight.

    Goalie poor. Fish supper awaits….

  29. KLV

Aye it will take time, I am quite amazed at the reaction today, dropping points was always gonna happen at some point, nobody is happy about it, but it was inevitable.

He will sort us over time, at the end of the day a defence is not really the priority in the spl, scoring goals is and we can do that more than the oppo in the main, europe is a different game, lets see what he comes up with.

    HH

  30. Gerrybhoy give us,and Almore, a break. Some can think of at least two things at once ( I blame the schools!) and I was certainly interested in what was going on in the All-Ireland final. Think diversity man!
