  1. 2-2. Coulda been another deluge of goals. Seen it many times.

Was the keeper really to blame for either goal? A cracking shot form outside the box. A free header for the second. Nah.

And for those in favour of leaving men up the park at corners, I’d still prefer to defend corners with every man we have. Maybe we wouldn’t have conceded the second goal. Who knows.

As for tightening up the defence, not at the expense of our attacking. 5-1 is better than 1-0. 2-2 is better than 0-0.

  2. THE EXILED TIM

    Dropping points is inevitable.

Dropping them to a team bottom of the league who have conceeded the most goals in the league who had one chance in 45 minutes and Celtic battered them without scoring is worrying even given a Euro – Hangover.

    The defence has issues.

The Keeper is a disaster so far.

People have been so wrapped up in laughing at a team in blue that they are not concentrating on Celtic’s problems.

By all means we should mock them and Barton and the prat with the hat but we need to continue to back up the claim that we are too strong and will win the league with ease.

I was guilty of it too but today is a stark reminder that this is not done after 5 games although we have a good position.

Get the defence sorted and change the keeper and things will be better.

  3. SuperSutton

A better keeper saves the first shot. He got a hand to it. He should have pushed it over the bar as his opposite number did to our shots for most of the second half.

  4. On a day when bad new is all around us, finishing with a draw in Inverness and remaining unbeaten after 5 games, leaving us 3 points clear with a game in hand, will do me.

17 goals for and 7 against show clearly what we intended to do domestically. Unfortunately we only scored two today and we conceded one more than we anticipated.

Kolo Toure got rested rather than walk out after calling the manager a pr*ck.

We now get a home cup tie against lower league opposition. I hope Brendan sticks by his signaled intention to freshen up the team and offer some fringe players and youngsters some game time, will not be deflected by this result.

On Wednesday I would go with

    Gordon

    Gamboa Simunovic O’Connell Izzaguire

    Brown Henderson

    Roberts Armstrong Christie

    Dembele

and play the first 11, based on fitness, against Killie on the Saturday.

2 more wins gives some feel good strength for the City game

    Gary67…..

Excellent point. BRs template will surely be Swansea rather than Liverpool.

    ————–

BRs template was the same at all his clubs, different levels and expectations are what changed

  6. Re Connachan final listened to the match on Scottish home service with my late father(from whom I got my celticness ) then four years later, with my da at Hampden 3-2 against the fifers. On the road to winning cups we will encounter blips, today is one of them.Oh and by the way chaps the media boys will be raging once again ….we did not lose!

  7. Winning Captains.

Interesting, your comments regarding Forrest v Roberts.

I thought Roberts was not as good as he can be but still fun to watch. Forrest exasperated this household in particular when we broke and McGregor was ahead of him, carrying the ball. Forrest made no attempt to join in the attack, wandered into the centre circle eventually.

Roberts back from injury so I’m happy to give him a few more starts ahead of Forrest.

are you confident that will be the case, i hope you are right or we could be in for the same old same old.

  9. I was thinking with 20 minutes to go how i couldn’t remember us being this comfortable up there but the players tired physically and mentally and seemed to think the job was done

We shouldn’t forget the players today were mainly those who showed a lack of resilience last season, it’s something that no amount of coaching can get rid of, it’s always going to be there

Saying that I can see that happening again under Brendan because of how he thinks the game should be played, on a day like today I’ve no real problem with it, I hope he compromises in Europe though

  10. The Huddle….

I understand your point which is well made but…

Swansea had to survive in the PL, Liverpool were beyond that consideration.

So while supporter expectations were very different the coaches priorities were also different and the approach different too.

  11. Snake

I have always said win the middle of the pitch and you will win the game, we didn’t do that today, we did to an extent but not all in, our defence is all over the place at the moment, I personally think it’s cos they don’t have any protection from the middy, these things take time and money to fix, maybes a bit longer if the money is not as forthcoming as our manager would hope for.

As for Doris, I can’t disagree but if I am honest I thought that CG was becoming a liability, there can be a few reasons but not having a settled defence for sure wasn’t helping him, maybes it’s the same for DDV, who knows.

  12. Snake Plessen.

Perhaps. Though he got a good hand to it and couldn’t keep it out. Not necessarily a fault on his part.

  13. JOE CUNDY on 18TH SEPTEMBER 2016 5:58 PM

Gerrybhoy give us,and Almore, a break. Some can think of at least two things at once ( I blame the schools!) and I was certainly interested in what was going on in the All-Ireland final. Think diversity man!

I bow to your qualified comments but am not involved in so called “breaks”. Everyone to his or her own. BTW, who are “us”?

I don’t really need an answer to that one :))

Almore – I am a veteran of the dublin gaa leagues having played for the worst team in dublin – bottom of junior seven for years – I can’t remember us winning a game – Bow before me mortal !

  15. Brendan said he wasn’t after a defensive mid in the last window, I don’t think he sees it as an important position

  16. i'vehadtochangemyname on

it’s great having snake back – a quality blogger

(snake – this is a weird one – do you play r6 seige on ps4?)

  17. Happy enough with a point in a tricky away game after a pretty frantic period.

We should have won, but that’s football.

We certainly miss Leugh Griffiths from our first 11, that much is plain.

Be an interesting midweek. time for the manager to shuffle the pack and give game the to likes of Cifci and Jozo I hope.

  18. Ivehadtochangemyname: I never played for a team but was brought up on the game and travelled the country following the Dubs. I was reared close to Parnell Park and continue to live close to it. Craobh Chiaráin is my local club. It is where we held the Easter hootenanny earlier this year. When I was younger Heffo’s Army was my first sporting love but I’m far more committed to Celtic now.

Replay is on Saturday 1st October at 5pm so match reports will only interfere with Celtic post-match analysis:-)

  19. THE EXILED TIM on 18TH SEPTEMBER 2016 6:21 PM

    True :)

But it was telling that he didnt make any mention of one when asked who he was trying to get in, instead it was a creative midfielder. I took that as a sign of where his priorities lie for this celtic team and how he’s looking to set us up

  20. SUPERSUTTON

I thought Forrest did very well when he came on and also more than Roberts did in his time on the park. Roberts was looking dejected as the game wore on and wasn’t going his way. Forrest caused their full- back more problems.

Charlie Gallagher told me a story about the team stopping for fish suppers on the way back from Aberdeen. If we’d won the supporters would put them to the front of the queue.

If they lost they’d remain at the back sheepishly.

  21. BR can no longer defend this defence…….its indefensible.

Aguero and Co. will have been watching !

Griff and Toure back v Alloa please.

  22. Don’t like complaining because this team this season has brought so much happyness to me.However I feel that talk of the league being over already is wildly optimistic. We will have to earn the right every single week.I thought inverness actually deserved their point today despite us creating far more. The Ibrox team are also not as dire as many are suggesting.I still think we have way too much for them but I can still see ups and downs .I don’t think the new goalie has done anything major wrong ,but he hasn’t done anything much right either.Gordon is very unlucky to be second choice.

    —————-

Growing up I used to live near a chippie in Edinburgh (St Johns Road), every time Celtic played Hearts or Hibs the team bus would stop outside and get suppers for everyone. I assume the sports science guy refrained :O)

It was always Gerry Creaney that was sent out to queue up, or maybe he volunteered

  24. Snake Plissen

I think you make too much of ICT’s league position.

On the day they were dogged and their keeper was MOM.

That is what makes football the game that it is

    11 v 11 giving their best for 90 minutes.

ICT will not end up in bottom position, any team takes time to gel and they are beginning to.

That should not blind us to our weak spots and we have a few but if we start disrespecting the opposition we add to our problems.

  25. Almore…………I was at all the Dub games in the Championship always get my tickets in SuperValu but was told they never get any for the final so watched on the TV. They did well to survive I thought weather again ruined the game but was exciting for the neutral. How does that guy Lee Keegan get away with it he got Sean Kavanagh sent off in the quarter final and did his best to get Connolly done as well to-day. Connolly’s jersey was in shreds.

Had hoped to record the Celtic match but Virgin media lost BT sport who seem to be doing all the Celtic games this season, will have to change to another provider. Hope the replay tickets are available for the ordinary punters.

  26. glendalystonsils on

Yes, the defence (including goalkeeper) were poor and the forwards finishing was poor.

But Midfield offered little protection in front of the defence.

In the lead up to ICT’s first goal, their forwards were able to break into a wide open, inviting space in front of our defence.

We do a lot of things well, but are not ‘joined up’ enough yet.

    I’m sure Brendan sees this.
