  1. According to Sky Sports Joey Barton has left Ibrox after a meeting this morning. Do they just mean he left the building? Surely he is allowed to leave the building at some point? I mean, on safety grounds, everyone should be allowed to leave that building….

  2. I agree with the comments that some of the reaction to yesterday has been over the top. We’re in a good place.

If Joey has left then that’s disappointing. I was looking forward to some further entertainment. Also – Broonie needs the challenge… ;-))))

Everyone so disgusted by the draw that they’ve chucked CQN? ;)

It’s making me think of a Bjork song, which I do not appreciate one bit…

    Violently Happy? :-)

  4. Even when we see it coming a mile, still very disappointed with the late collapse, in a game that should have been out of sight. Terrible goal to lose with no out and out CB figure in the air , is basic stuff indeed.

All too often it’s Scott Brown or another wee ghuy trying to win a header with any number of ‘centre backs’ rooted to the spot elsewhere.

With Toure out of the side Celtic are more aerially challenged and even managed to concede to Sevco in a similar way, when he played. BR needs to get it sorted out and hasn’t helped himself by preferring a lesser non dominating goalkeeper.

BR now faces going back on his decision that international Craig Gordon was replaceable with a veteran freebie whom he knew from his Swansea days. Hardly another Scott Sinclair moment, but maybe he’s just a likely to stick like he did with under fire Mingulet at Liverpool, that’s managers for you.

Fine when you score four or five if that’s his plan, yesterday should have been a barrow load of goals (even with a Griffiths bereft side), which would have disguised the deficiencies at the back.

Cristian Gamboa we knew was no marquee signing more of the emergency variety, to fill in for hastily departing Saidy Janko. Like for like, by the looks of yesterday ,we needn’t have bothered and dead easy to see why Tony Pulis refused to play our new full back, come midfielder, come winger.

All in all a bad day at the office in a week when we didn’t need another reminder that we’re just ‘no very good’, and beating a newly promoted side always means little.

Use the Alloa game to sort out the side for the more important SPL game v Kilmarnock.

BSR; not a personal swipe at you: just an observation on yesterday following fairly negative comments by a number of posters.

Was it really such a bad day at the office? Tierney, Sviatchenko and Dembele all hit the woodwork. The ICT keeper had half a dozen very good saves. On another day it could’ve been easily 5 or six.

New players have to be bedded in (Gamboa); players returning from injury need to get game time (Roberts and Simunovic); players need to be rested (Toure); fringe players need game time (McGregor).

Sometimes it’s just a day when the ball won’t go in. Yesterday was one of them.

Question: if you had been offered 3 points clear (with a game in hand) and goal difference of 10 after 5 games, would you have taken it?

  6. It has become impossible to read cqn on my phone I keep getting a pop up for sky fibre. It cover the whole page (using my tablet just now), I have a pop up blocker on my phone that has worked well in the past. This Sky Ad seems to have found a way round it. Seems this site is being over run by pop ups and Ads from what I can gather. I am going to try another browser for my phone and adblock plus. These ads don’t just pick any old site to infest. They are invited in.

  7. I said last week that I think Celtic should be looking at Mathew Ryan as a GK target. The Australian plays for Valencia but has had little first team time since his move from Club Brugge. He is young (24) and has the kicking ability that BR likes in GKs. He’s very agile and looks like he loves saving shots. Not the biggest GK at 6’0 but has the athleticism to leap for balls. I watched him during the last Asian Cup playing for Australia and I was pretty impressed.

If GK is an area we need to resolve in Jan then why not go for someone who could be at the club for a number of years instead of another 30+ GK?

Use the Alloa game for feck all except winning it.

    No more Morton moments.

  9. Cognitive dissonance .

Octogenarian Inter fanatic from down the valley heavily conflicted this morning — delighted that Inter beat Rube but miffed that the consequence of that victory is Franciscus De Boer continuing to be manager of Inter

He is also miffed that I ( acting on his advice ) had a lovely double – Hapoel to beat Inter / Inter to beat Rube .. . ” It’s the way those egotistical shits are – so predictable but unfortunately I can’t bet on Inter – you can buy me a bottle of Prosecco ”

On the predictability front — ICT’s equaliser was clealy coming .

How will Scottish football cope without its star player for three weeks?

The guy who was putting Scottish football “back on the map”……..

  11. I like the last sentence – I give Sloey a week.

Rangers have suspended Joey Barton for three weeks following a training-ground dispute with team-mate Andy Halliday.

The midfielder was sent home last Tuesday and returned to Ibrox for a meeting on Monday morning.

A statement from the club said: “The manager, Mark Warburton, and club believe that time and space is required for both the club and the player to assess all that has happened.

“Neither party will make any further statement or comment on this issue.”

  12. In Gordon Strachan’s first season at Celtic we went for a spell of 10 League games (12 in total) without keeping a clean sheet. We still won the league by 17 points.

Yes, we need to sort out the defence, but teams in transition often suffer from defensive hiccups. If by the end of the season we are still gifting goals and are struggling to pull away from the pack then I think we have cause for concern. Not at 5 games though.

Very glass half full as opposed to my glass half empty which is on the back of

    ‘humiliation’ in Spain.

Yes, we hit the bar and should have scored, but didn’t.

Sometimes they just won’t go in right enough, all the more need to keep them out, especially when a side completely outclassed still manages to score, with virtually their only attack of the second half.

    The return of the sieve?

    QUONNO

Not advocating wholesale changes, but we should manage squad rotation V Alloa in an

effort to plug the sieve (mentioned above)

  14. Just imagine how slow he’s going to be after a three week lay off.

It will be like watching a glacier.

  15. So many writing off the keeper. Now me,I have no idea if he is a good keeper,or a bad one. What I do know is,I find it hard to blame him for any of the goals this week.I do not think he had a “Snowballs”with any of them.In this strange world, too many want to jump onto anything they see as a chance to whinge, moan, deride, ridicule.I am sure Freud would have had a ball with them.

Just exactly what did Gamboa do yesterday,to be labelled a dud?.A defence that the opposition get 2 shots on target against are crap.Blame, what about KT crashing into the ICT player with not a hint of danger out at the touchline that gave them the free kick.KT is not to be mentioned ever in any criticism it seems.

  16. Ernie –

I suspect the end game is for Barton to walk away, rather than be sacked, which will cost them.

  17. Q, how do you improve an ageing players fitness as he seems to be struggling to keep up?

A, give him 3 weeks off!

Way to go Warbo, yer a genius.

    Pmsl.

  18. Bhoysbackability on

Re “the penalty” , there was a very similar incident in the Spurs v Sunderland game and a free kick was awarded and a yellow card issued. No fuss was made of it by the commentators or players of either side. I thought there were a couple of reasons why it wasn’t an obvious goal scoring opportunity, we had 2 other defenders closing in and Draper had a poor touch taking the ball away from goal. He also manufactured the collision, to be fair this was only obvious to me on replay.

  19. Craig Gordon’s kicking ability, huh?

The season before last Gordon’s ability to distribute the ball was, why he improved the side (over big Fraz).

DeVries, distribution is no enhancement. The suggestion he provides a role akin to a sweeper’s is just plain wrong, if you go to the game and watch his positioning, you’ll know what I mean.

Nah, Gordon is reaping what he planted, months ago when Ronny was boss.

Brendan just had to bide his time, before delivering what Commons, Stokes and Mulgrew got.

Perhaps, Craigs censure will be less.

    All just imho, of course.

  20. I’m sure Joey Barton is the author of The Secret Footballer series.

I wonder if he will write a novel on playing for the Huns?

I’m sure his suspension is a ‘give him enough rope’ situation- if Joey talks to the media during his 3 week suspension he can be sacked without compensation perhaps?

Maybe Joey will play the long game and play there for a year, then have a blockbuster on his hands. Go on Joey

  21. We’re all disappointed by the two points dropped . Yesterday by pressure and chances we should have won out the park . A great goalkeeping display and hard luck stopped us collecting the 3 points , although our defence to be fair were a bit shaky . Eric who I like had a poor game , as had Callum , and the new RB , but we should still have taken all 3 points . Like a good few on here , I still find the goalie a bit suspect , but Brendan’s the man who calls the shots . Pleased also to see BIg Joso back .

Have to disagree on McGregor. While he didn’t exactly put in a masterclass, he constantly showed for the ball, gave his team mates options and drove forward with the ball. He was unlucky not to score on two occasions.

Again, he wasn’t brilliant but I thought he put in a decent, honest performance.

  23. bournesouprecipe on 19th September 2016 11:19 am

Yeah, different viewpoints on the same game. I’m not too worried about the performance overall, though the 2nd goal was easily preventable. Jozo should have been on the guy, but it’s his first game in 8 months!

I agree; KT gets a free pass most games. H was very good yesterday but as you say, gave away the foul. The type of Nir Bitton “needless foul” we hear about week in, week out. Did we miss Bitton yesterday? I think possibly.

  24. McGregor was v wasteful in front of goal yesterday, on a couple of occasions he lashed the ball high(row z high) and wide. He also passed to opposing players with no pressure on him. He displayed effort and eagerness I’ll give him that, but technique was absent.

In a very similar manner to Bitton; he was Ok but not brilliant. The player who has an awful lot of the game going through him, so by being involved so much, he is more likely to be noticed if he makes a mistake in the central area: much like McGregors mistake that led to the “nearly” penalty.
