  1. If CQN is representative of the Celtic support, then ” We don`t care if we win, lose or draw.” is a lyric that most certainly should be dropped from our choral repertoire.

  2. Enjoy the fish supper WC.

I thought both Roberts and Forrest contributed well.

We just didn’t score as many as our play deserved, that was the big issue for me today.

Their goalie played very well, we hit the woodwork several times, we missed a couple of chances we shouldn’t have missed.

We didn’t play badly, at all. Another day we would win comfortably.

Inverness is a hard place to go.

And regarding the keeper, my main point is neither are very good right now, CG was playing poorly, DDV hasn’t covered himself in glory, but brining the Barcá game into it wasn’t a fair comparison and I don’t think CG would have done any better domestically in the games he has missed.

  3. Any comments on the state of the park?

The grass looked very long — looked more like a junior rugby park.

However in second half we seemed to have taken the victory for granted.

We forgot there was only one goal in it and played a lot of self indulgent wasteful stuff.

Regarding the big incident — no,no and thrice no.

The contact was manufactured by the ICT player so no foul for me.

  4. We got lucky.

Should have been 2-1 and a man down after the half hour.

How that ref didn’t take the chance to reduce us is bewildering – that’s him finished at the top level once the Hun cabal see it.

So a draw was probably karma.

    Pumped them 2-2.

Doris- why? We don’t need a sweeper-keeper in the SPL. The guy who makes the penalty save that qualifies us for the CL gets dropped for the guy who’s flapped at Neymar and now Billy king’s (Oh, dear parents of young Billy- how tragically inbred you appear) shots in the past week.

Calum McGregor- why? I’ve long advocated he’s not Celtic class; Rogic going off freed up their midfield to push on us last 5 minutes – all 2nd half they’d been bothered with Rogic’s forward movement and allocated a midfielder to constantly cover him.

Forrest did well, but we criminally neglected to feed him once he had that poor full-back on toast- the boy was already panting after chasing Paddy’s feet all day.

    Their keeper did well.

    MOTM – young Keiran. Relentless.

One footnote on the ref- although I covered him missing the pen, he blatantly refused to card Vigurs for halfing Teirney after 5 minutes then DID book him for assaulting Roberts later in the first half. 2 stonewall bookings = offski before HT.

Maybe we did get a little bit of bad luck in there too.

From about 60 minutes I sensed it was going to be a draw with Caley getting one chance and scoring it. These things happen.

  6. glendalystonsils on

Just watched the replay of their equaliser. Not one Celtic defender gets off the ground when the second ball comes in. Too familiar a scenario. Think Jozo was the closest defender to the scorer.

On another note, Pat Nevin expresses opinion in favour of Celtic shocker!

The ICT player sticks a leg in front of Erik at the ‘penalty’ and should have been booked. Exactly what I thought when I saw the replay!

  7. Doc…regarding the goalkeeper….

I feel this is a pressing problem and that perhaps the board should get involved to iron out any problems…

    Smiley thing

    Braw.

  8. Of course the ICT player stuck his leg into the Erik but those fouls are given every time in any league we got lucky, would’ve been brave if the ref had booked the ICT player for fouling Eric

  9. Hankray: The final is the only game I have difficulty getting tickets for. I no longer have direct GAA connections so it is always going to be an uphill battle to get a ticket. I went down to Croker and tried for about an hour but, unlike last year, there were few spares about.

I don’t mind not getting a ticket. It is a unique kind of final and fair play to the grass roots players and coaches for keeping the sport so strong.

Dublin were poor today. We beat Kerry easily enough last year in driving rain so I won’t be blaming the weather. From a neutral’s point of view, Mayo’s failure to take advantage, despite being the better team, would have been the biggest disappointment I would imagine.

As I said earlier, the replay will be a completely different game. I expect Dublin to learn from today and play their usual game. Or Mayo will go one better and blow Dublin apart.

I think it was more the support who wanted a def middy, maybes BR does as well, but as you say he is all about attack, but shirly he must see in europe it’s a must, the defence needs protected at all costs.

    In Brendan I trust.

A few are swithering today mind you…….a few more results like today and he will be for the chop so he will.

DDV looks as if he was steaming in goals…… Has the reflexes of an iron

By the way I hope big Doris proves me wrong

  12. The Huddle

Well at least it was better than the Frankie Vaughan version. I believe that Green Door is , like the Las There She Goes and Depeche Mode’s Just Can’t Get Enough one of those songs that is not quite about what it seems to be.

    Jim

  13. Sandman….

I’m not much of a McGregor fan but….

He was really good today. Wasted little. Interplay with others was good. He was a real danger to ICT in and around the penalty area….hit the bar plus two decent saves by their goalie.

I recognise your point re taking TR off but I don’t think I’d lay any blame on CMcG. In fact I’d say he was a contender for Celtics mom.

KT had a great match going forward but his stupid challenge led indirectly to the equaliser. Not a criticism of him but any player giving away cheap free kicks anywhere near our penalty area is daft given the nature of our defending and our pathetically slow reactions when we initially clear our lines.

    HH

  14. Hugely disappointed with losing a late goal, caused by needlessly conceding a free kick outside the box. Think Tierney was the culprit. We gave away 3 such free kicks in dangerous areas in the first half, something the manager has to address. Unlucky not to score 4 in the 2nd half, but as BR says, we can’t be expected go score 5 every week. Would prefer Mulgrew to Sviatchenko at the back – more of a presence.

  15. Gerryfaethebrig……

Always tricky with goalies….Craig was a godsend when he signed…then had a couple of ten million plus defenders leave…Cannae be easy…time will tell …early days…

    In Brendan we trust…

Hope you and yours are doing braw…

  16. Always know we are in trouble when someone suggests Charlie Mulgrew would be a better option!!!!!!

    ;-)

  17. De Vries or Gordon are not the answer for me. A goalkeeper who can command his penalty box and can pass a ball is a priority, sadly easier to say than to acquire in the market we operate in. Thought the ICT keeper played well and could be one to watch.

  18. Neustsadt Braw

All good here I try not to slag any players but also when Celtic don’t win I try and not get too down especially when top of the league and cruising good managers before Brendan struggled at the Tulloch, never a happy hunting ground for us, also, good for Brendan don’t want this manager lark to be too easy up here as I want him here for years….. I like the fact he is wrong about Craig Gordon shows he is just human like the rest of us :-)

  19. SB was OK as an individual.

Played some good stuff but gradually fell out the game.

    CMcG just isn’t good enough.

Tidy player with a goal threat but that is not enough.

Not sure what we gain giving him SPL game time when we have other CM’s that we need to develop — looks to be a bit short term.

  20. CELTIC40ME

Yip. Happy as a Sandbhoy at 2-1 but………………………………game not concluded and points at stake.

You knew, and I knew, that when ICT momnetarily reversed the trend for just a few minutes, got up the park, and boom…………….. goal conceded.

Sviatchenko is comfortable on the ball, but has no fitness let alone pace. DDV was a cheap mistake, he’s no better and possibly worse than Craig Gordon who thrashes DDV at ‘shot stopping’

Gamboa was the invisible defender, we missed badly the Bitton factor in front of the defence.

All this and we’re light years ahead, will make it easy for Rodgers who will soak it up

  21. Any thoughts on our abilities with corners.

I think we are very poor, very wasteful with very little to show for them.

ScS seems to struggle to get past the first man.

We seem to put little effort and no energy into them.

  22. just back in, on last blog I had 1 ? Gordon or DDV. Want Gordon back asap is my opinion now, also suspected before a ball was kicked he should be restored. no looking for a fight, just my opinion. Gamboa will grow into a great rb

Delighted to see you got a ticket and enjoyed the game. I was away with the kids at a rugby tournament in dalziel this morning and got talking to a good old bhoy from Balbriggan who was there with his grandson, his son was up in Inverness, his prediction was if the dubs start well it will go to plan, don’t think for one minute any of us could have predicted how the game would start. Never seen anything like it in my life for a team two score two goals and conceded just one point to be down by 5 points in unbelievable. Future quiz question in there somewhere.

Anyway after the rugby we headed down to Mariana Italian restaurant for a fantastic family meal. Any of you bhoys in and around Kirky area give them a try, the most fantastic minestrone soup for me mozeralla fritti and pizza fritti for Mrs Nas and kids. Then beautiful meatballs with spaghetti in a Napoli sauce …………..superb, and washed down with lashings of ice cold peroni, bells bella Mariana. Mrs Nas and the kids had the carbonara and every plate clean going back to kitchen. I really can’t praise them high enough.

While we were there the kids were watching the game on their iPads and the fella at the next table kept looking over his shoulder at every gasp or groan. Got talking to him and he is a Craig Gordon fan says Craig kept us in many a game after we sold our best defenders. Hard to argue with that epically after today’s performance by Doris, anyone think Craig will be back for midweek or will Brendan stick with Doris.

Bye the way that Real Madrid strip is honking looks like that strip in the sky football series from years ago, purple blur effect.

Could Gordon be injured? Does BR think DDV has the greater potential to improve? There is no obvious immediate change for the better.

    ———–

    Gordon isn’t injured.

BR rates a keeper’s ability to play sweeper above anything else, ergo DDV

  26. Perhaps not many will agree with me but I think Boyata is our best defender after Toure. Unfortunately his distribution is poor at times, but he has height and pace, whereas Simunovic and Sviatchenko are both slow.

I also think Brendan was wrong to loan out Janko and freeze out Efe. Both look better at right back than the new signing.

Your joking I skimmed back earlier and saw his posts And updates on the score and just assumed he had got one. Sorry ALMORE buddy I thought you had been successful. Are you going back for the replay and if you are I will text the uncle and bil to see if they can source one for you.

Thanks for letting me know wits.
