Issue 7 of CQN Magazine out now!

Issue 7 of CQN Magazine is out now! We continue our campaigning focus on the crisis in Scottish football from recent weeks as well as delivering many great articles on Celtic.

You can get a glimpse of the magazine below but go to the dedicated magazine site here to read it properly (which you’ll not be able to do below). Nip to page 64 for my favourite article this month, comparing the age of the current Celtic team to some of our great teams from the past. It’s an eye opener.

A special word of thanks to Alex Thomson of Channel 4 News, who this morning got Uefa to confirm: “We are in contact with the Scottish FA and offering assistance”.

We have tons to talk about in the next couple of days, Brian Kennedy, Sailen Manna – don’t let me forget to talk about Sailen, Athletic (one of the most important cup ties in years?), Kenny Shiels (don’t underestimate this guy) and we have a Cup Final to look forward to! Struggling to fit it in but we’ll try.

We are now shipping hard copies of the magazine from the UK – and sold out last month (unlike Rangers tickets last week).  Order your copy by clicking on the link below.  If you want a copy shipped overseas (note, seas, not sees) email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com (for Britain and Ireland please use the link below).

You can support the online edition by making a discretionary donation here.  Thanks to James, Bart, Bobby and David, all of whom are probably still asleep, and everyone who contributed.

Funny, I was thinking something similar myself. Each passing day seems to expose yet another bizarre twist in the tragicomedy that is Rangers.

Fact is, Rangers have over the years paid £49M into an extensive and virtually impenetrable network of offshore trusts and sub-trusts. We know what went in on the basis that they have declared as much in their Annual Reports through the years, what we don’t know is who the beneficiaries were (Campbell Ogilvie excepted) or the extent of the individuals’ benefits.

If you wanted to get into bribery, corruption, all such naughty stuff, using such an unauditable offshore framework would be the very way to do it.

To be absolutely clear: I’m not for a moment suggesting that anything of the like occured. Merely pointing out that revelations to date have exhausted all but the imagination of the most sensitive of paranoiacs.

If you’re prepared to rip off the tax man for £49M to gain a sporting advantage.

If you’re prepared to corrupt the game from the inside to do so.

If you have screwed your shareholders and creditors for something in excess of £1000M. (Billion)

What are you not prepared to do?

    Just a thought, like.

  12. I’m really looking forward to the game on Sunday and I think that Neil will go with the same starting 11 that secured the excellent result last week against a team that was on a superb run of form.

The one thing that Neil has developed in his teams is great flexibility which was typified by last week.

Emilio and Dave might make it on to the bench for this week.

Kilmarnock will try and make it difficult but if we play with the high tempo, controlled aggression that has been a joy to watch this calender year, then we should bring home the first bit of silverware of the season.

I can see both James and Giorgios tormenting their defence in what now becomes (after last week) our most important game of the season. Both have been absolutely brilliant this season and they are both creative and big game players IMO.

It’s going to be a good weekend for the Celts.

Dundee United should have some very tasty odds for a variety of bets as I can see them handing them a convincing defeat tomorrow, the only downside is United will be deflated a bit from last weeks exit but should still win by 2 or 3 goals.

Retard sports exclusive by Keef Janglebaws and The Jabbatron

In a sensational scoop Retard Sport can exclusively reveal THE story that will send tremors through very fabric of Scottish Football and put  those gloating Celtic fans right back in their wee boxes. A highly placed source (which one of us is this Jabba?) has blown the whistle on the shady shenanigans the Parkhead outfit have been involved in this season.

    These include:

SCORING more goals than other teams

    WINNING games  by fair means.

Having GOOD players who can pass and stuff.

Not only may these underhand practices have been used this season but may have been used SINCE THE VERY INCEPTION OF THE CLUB!

On top of that the Hoops bean counters have been PAYING their taxes IN FULL and ON TIME for years.

Fans of the East End team have been uncharitably enjoying the minor troubles of their magic and infinitely superior rivals, unaware of the murky and sordid goings on at their rubbish club. And whilst fans of that mob may cry ‘conspiracy’, the Retard is in possession of a smoking dossier which proves these allegations conclusively. It contains.

A recent league table ( which for legal reasons we have to print in a redacted     form) showing Celtic far ahead of their rivals on so called ‘points.’

A damning DVD showing Celtic players such as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper,   blatantly SCORING goals and defenders such Thomas Rogne and Charlie Mulgrew STOPPING goals being scored against them. Many other players can clearly be seen to be PLAYING WELL.

A secretly recorded phone call we made to Celtic captain in which he admits to not only BEATING other teams but states that he only has ONE contract and most damning of all shockingly admits that all due taxes on his salary have been PAID IN FULL.

We have also pieced together a season by season body of evidence that implicates former Hoops such as Henrik Larsson, John Hartson and even those spawny buggers The Lisbon Lions in this twisted underhand plot

When we contacted officials at Celtic park about these explosive allegations they showed no remorse. In fact several of our calls resulted in no response other than laughter.

When asked for their views several prominent and lovely current and ex Bears were far more dignified and helpful.

Rear of the Year 1999 and Retard pundit Mark Hateley said ‘ You know, I always knew there was something fishy about their victories. I mean a player like Larsson, he was blatantly good. I remember seeing him play and thinking ‘ you’re playing football, there’s more to this than meets the eye’   People might have thought he was a normal thuggish tax dodger but clearly they were wrong. UEFA need to get involved. Otherwise things like this become the norm and before you know it teams are winning titles and paying taxes left right and, um, the other one….Thank you, Daily Retard, for shining a light on this sporting abomination. Oh and for the cash ‘ ( as told to Mark Guidi)

Awesome bluenose god Andy Goram told us ‘ To think we lost out on winning those rightfully corrupt titles to a team who were cheating by being better than us is sickening. There should be no place in sport for these fair playing cheats. I’m in bits here. I’m going to down a bottle of Lambrini and head over to Johnny Adair’s bunker. Normally 2 hours of looking at his tattoos calms me down but I don’t hold out much hope.’

Mensa President and Pundit Mega Brain Gordon Deeeee-el ‘ I agree with Daryll, this is a shocking, shocking turn out for events and what have you. but I hope that the wan thing good that can come oot the other end of this shocking, shocking scandal is that it might gee the youngsters a chance’

And in an effort to back up our moribund and increasingly desperate reportage we would remind you that we are both the most upstanding and talented journalists of our, or indeed any, generation. Packed full of honesty and as unbiased as the good Lord himself. We are totally perfect good guys with brains and looks and talent. And neither of us is fat.

Kilmarnock have been one of our more difficult opponents, but NL went for it at Tannadice. For the first 45 Hooper and Stokes looked like one too many.

I’d be tempted to leave one out.

  17. I feel it would be quite harsh if Anthony Stokes didn’t start on Sunday, though I’m sure he’ll play a part anyway.

  18. Has anyone seen what the volunteers for the olympics are being forced to wear?

I have to say the olympic organising committee are to be congratulated as they’ve actually created something that people will be too embarrassed to sell on ebay.

Haven’t read the comments from last night but for those who saw the Bilbao game last night, that’s what playing like Barcelona is all about. Most of what will be talked about re: last night, was the brilliant pass for Llorente’s beautiful finish and also the three consecutive drag-backs and culminating in a poor finish where a goal was richly deserved.

The most important thing for the Celtic players to take from Bilbao’s performance last night was how, in isolation, unspectacular 10 to 15 yard passes were made to look fantastic thanks to selfless running off the ball from all of the players on the pitch including the goalkeeper and the substitutes when they came on the field.

Just as I said a few months back British teams, management, and also the British media can’t cope with enterprising running off the ball. Man Utd can count themselves lucky they didn’t lose by 10 goals on aggregate.

  19. How many members of the Blue Knights ( of St Columba) have been identified so far then? Paul Murray reckoned there would be 10 at least earlier in the week, he then outed 2, do the other 8 exist yet or has Paul been “Duped”?

-> Great point, and something the Hoops are very bad at. OK… we look great against st johnstone etc, but did you see us against Sion at home? A wee step up in quality, and we looked lost. No movement off the ball, no urgency on it. The more opportunities we get in european football, the better a team we will become back home, and as you say… the british media, british opposition and british managers cannot handle that type of football.

I tend to believe that certain mibs are up for doing what comes naturally to them for no recompense, but a wee untraceable helping hand from the goatlord now and again, just to show his appreciation like, mightn’t have left them disappointed, it would also have given him complete control over them, handy if any of them ever got the jitters about doing his bidding at any given time. Infact he has had intimate relationships with peepul at the bank, the administrators of the game and the media so why not the mibbish ones too ?

  24. pggtips2,

They are great points, I think I read somewhere that Neil was watching that game. Neil is a great student of the game IMO.

The most important thing about Barcelona is that they all work their butts off to be able to control games with 70+% possession against any team in the world.

Bilbao look to be a team who are taking on board Barcelona’s most important ingredients like you point out in your post.

  25. bournesouprecipe

I’d always go for 4-3-3 with one striker but the bhoys/formation selected will be with man management and the recent past in mind. Celtic will not stick with 4-4-2 for much longer IMO.

This team will evolve very nicely over the next 2 or 3 seasons when we start accessing disposable money.
