It would choke Scottish Government to acknowledge Celtic contribution

807

You read the Scottish Government’s response last week when a Glasgow business won £40m worth of export income, shared with others in their sector from Dingwall to Kilmarnock? Celtic’s Champions League success this month has been phenomenal economic news for Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general, but it would break the Scottish Government scarcely concealed agenda towards Celtic for them to acknowledge the contribution to our economy.

Instead they peddle some hoary old trash in attempting to defend their thoroughly discredited Offensive Behaviour’ Act, which sought to “equalise” supporters behaving lawfully with those behaving in a sectarian manner.

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

It would choke these people to acknowledge Celtic’s contribution to the country’s economic welfare. They want your votes, they don’t want to listen to you, or Parliament, or any other body who may represent you, unless you conform to a cultish utopian vision.

We live in the age where governments across the globe bang the Bogeyman Drum, while indulging in crass selective seeing and hearing. This Tartan-Peronist outfit would be wise not to cherry-pick how they tackle Celtic supporters, or our club.

Aye I’m only basing it on the goals he scores but even if less mobile I think in terms of shape it’s better to have a natural CF than James Forrest, who does his best.

Ive simply reminded the unhinged worshippers of the PLC, of the pledge to back Brendan. They dont like the clarity you see:)

They even have the cheek to moan about masonic referees, while funding them.

Whereas, i give them SFA, because its is clearly corrupt.

You obviously missed the :-) in the post then,

FFS I am delighted with the business we have done, I have said that more than once, whatever way you look at things Brendan has PUBLICLY stated that he wants euro football in the new year, that costs money, and a blind man can see that we need to get another CB in, a first team starter, one who Brendan wants, if the SA fells didn’t work out, there must be a fall back, but I would take a gamble on the SA fella, he was costing about 800K I believe, if Pedro has anything about him , and he is one of the best by all accounts, he should manage to get him for half that now that his failed medical is public, the boy has played for his team on a regular basis and for his country without any probs, so imo he is worth the risk.

  16. I came on having not even lurked for several days because I’d heard of Paddy’s loan deal.

The first couple of pages had me astonished at the ignorance of many Celtic supporters regarding the OBaF Act and the desire amongst SNP supporters to excuse the legislation as a minor blip in an otherwise perfect political utopia. It’s not.

    Paddy?

Delighted and disappointed in equal measure.

My own belief is that Celtic have done absolutely everything to make the deal permanent. The reason that it’s only for a year is no fault of our board.

I’d also like to point out that the Celtic board were unfairly misrepresented in the submission to the Justice Committee regarding the OBaF Act.

Dont question the narrative, its a problem.

However, that’s just tough, because that is precisely what i will always do, no matter what.

The PLC made promises to Brendan, they should keep their word. It really is as simple as that, but some posters dont like that reality.

Anyway, catch you soon, im off.

  19. Paul67…

A few points. Firstly – are you aware that with the exception of ad blocked browsers your page is now commercialised to the point of being unreadable? I understand you monetising the site, but to the point it’s actually no longer working on several browsers – including Safari on iOS, where the page no longer renders correctly?

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

I’m sure you know this, but the above is patent nonsense. To be clear, the ‘vote’ last year was typical Labour posturing. The labour party that’s saw poverty in our city rise for the last 30 years. The Labour party who have introduced a mile wide parking exclusion zone – one btw that doesn’t affect Sevco anywhere nearly as badly given their transport links. Oh, and that’ll be the same Labour Party that vetoed improving rail links to Celtic park. If you bothered to perform even the most basic checks, or rather, if you ‘left your politics at the door’ and commented objectively you would know that the vote was posturing and not actually something with any power. As you might also note, the SNP as the biggest party actually have the mandate of the people to rule. Still, don’t let that get in the way of your continued party political broadcasting on behalf a Labour party that’s only too happy to collude with tories and the DUP.

It’s an absolute joke that people that who supposedly align themselves with Irish heritage will then stand shoulder to shoulder with Brits and unionism.

There are a large portion of you guys who might like to see Celtic as a powerful corporate entity, but at what cost? The cost of having pro-austerity, unionist tories on our board? At the cost of defending scum like John Reid on our board (food for thought, google John Reid and Dawn Primarolo, and that’s before you even start to look at his conflicts of interest in war mongering in Iraq). Regardless, we’ve still got Dermot Desmond. Lucky he’s not mentioned in the Panama papers, or with industrial-scale tax evasion, or the mistreatment of the elderly at care homes he runs.

Good on you Paul67. Leave your politics at the door. Unless it’s pro-labour. Never fear, you’ve got what you want – Celtic ARE more than just a club. The only problem being that they’re now a safe haven for corporate vultures and the abusers of the poor. All the while standing for nothing beyond what they can extract from your wallet. Still, you’re making your cut with the ads so don’t rock the boat.
