It would choke Scottish Government to acknowledge Celtic contribution

807

You read the Scottish Government’s response last week when a Glasgow business won £40m worth of export income, shared with others in their sector from Dingwall to Kilmarnock? Celtic’s Champions League success this month has been phenomenal economic news for Glasgow in particular, and Scotland in general, but it would break the Scottish Government scarcely concealed agenda towards Celtic for them to acknowledge the contribution to our economy.

Instead they peddle some hoary old trash in attempting to defend their thoroughly discredited Offensive Behaviour’ Act, which sought to “equalise” supporters behaving lawfully with those behaving in a sectarian manner.

The Government, which for years placed great political capital into respecting the will of the Scottish Parliament, suddenly decided Parliament’s voice could be ignored by Government, when the chamber voted to repeal the Act in November.

It would choke these people to acknowledge Celtic’s contribution to the country’s economic welfare. They want your votes, they don’t want to listen to you, or Parliament, or any other body who may represent you, unless you conform to a cultish utopian vision.

We live in the age where governments across the globe bang the Bogeyman Drum, while indulging in crass selective seeing and hearing. This Tartan-Peronist outfit would be wise not to cherry-pick how they tackle Celtic supporters, or our club.

  1. HOT SMOKED on 28TH AUGUST 2017 5:19 PM

I am a little bit puzzled concerning the seeming desperation for another central defender.

We play against Scottish opposition most of the time and we have the following :

    Simunovic,Boyata,Svietchenko and Ajer

The problem is,so many fans become stupider than Jim White on Transfer Deadline Day.I have no idea what goes through their heads.Wind probably. You are bang on with the CHs.

    Oxlade Chamberlin,60 million .FFS.

  2. Bada.

    Kevin g was quite specific.

He intimated that we would need a striker and defender ( centre back) because of players/agents.

I would be delighted with an on loan striker and a centre back providing we don’t lose Moussa or Jozo.

    Hail Hail

Bada, you are correct, we got two years out of Vic and VVD, and we’ll get no more than two out of Moussa.

*aye and the first two couldnae wait tae get away, still waiting tae read “please save me from my St. Mary’s hell”

    —–

Yes, and Paddy couldn’t wait to get back, therein lies the difference.

  5. its a funny day to be angry with the board, its almost like someone’s looking for an excuse to piss on our chips

  6. INVINCIBLE 'GG on

    So the messiah has returned.

He was much awaited and prophesied.

Now that he has arrived some of his welcome has been, to say the least, begrudging.

And if you know your history.

  8. If big Virgil disnea get sold, nobody will be coming in, right ?

That’s the hold up, right ?

Big Moult played guid under big McGhee…

maybe Brendan could get him playing to the same effect ?

    Anyway,……

Awe the transfer windae erse dragging, will never stop…..

till yeez, empty the park, and give the keys to a, Celtic supporters cooperative society, to control the club, along the same lines as, John Lewis is run.

The first move would require the removal of, 53,000 pairs of Scooby Doo! Pyjamas.

    Well,……….

    …..oot.

  9. Griff was knackered at the weekend, easy to forget he came back half fit to save our CL campaign. Big Moussa is a bit fragile so I think we need another striker. Paddy can play there in the domestic games but it’s a tall order in Europe. Origi would do.

  10. The Green Man

How about defining backing the manager?

How much more should be spent on 2 more players and at what cost over a 3 year contract?

Will those players guarantee progress in CL or EL and how much income will be generated by such and is it enough to cover the 3 years cost?

Is making sure you keep players the manager wants to keep by upping their contracts not backing the manager?

Is offloading unwanted players to free wages to keep or recruit new players not backing the manager?

Without that sort of information how would anyone but BR know if he was being backed?

We had a CB lined up. BR seemed happy with that. Is the CB failing a medical the Boards fault?

After all these unknowns are factored in then an informed judgement can be made until then it’s all shovelling green steam.

  11. SP,

There’s the crux….who are the right players….what’s their true worth to the team, to us as fans….and to the PLC as commodities….

me, I’ll wait till the window closes with a gentle click….before I offer an opinion on how this window has went….great so far ;-))

    H.H.

  12. Turkeybhoy

I have been saying on here for at least a year now that we need another CB, Brendan imo doesn’t rate Erik, Jozo for some reason seems to have had his head turned by the lure of the filthy lucre down south, so much so that the likes of Burnley has him excited :-)

Jozo also has dodgy knees into the bargain.

Dedryk for all his the support didn’t rate him seems to have turned all that about and is our number one pick as a CB, Brendan obviously likes him.

Ajer is a wean that is being converted to a CB, he may or may not make it.

So the moral of the post is get your finger oot Pedro :-)

  13. That lad Moult looks like the kind of player we might sign to howls of derision.

He scores some excellent goals a la Griffiths and his signing was hardly welcomed with open arms.

The PLC were bragging about backing the manager, well, lets see it.

No need to complicate it, its clear.

No need for a big debate to shift the goalposts.

  15. THELURKINTIM

We kept our big players so far and that’s as important as the bling-o-meter for me..

All this humphing and hawing in “what if” land dis ma nut right in..

On the day Paddy signs back at Celtic we should be celebrating but naw we ‘re moving the goalposts every two minutes to give it to the board:))))

Ye couldnae makes this shite up:))

Big Olli pinging the baw tae wee Paddy, mouthwatering prospect:))

P.S the right players will be given the negaton Green Seal Of Approval:))

  16. Auldheid

” We had a CB lined up. BR seemed happy with that. Is the CB failing a medical the Boards fault?”

Yes, had Pedro been on the ball there would have been no need for a medical, he should have known there would be a problem :-)

  19. Well

The article seems to have prompted a few comments from new posters and rarely heard from posters alike.

I don’t expect any Political party to risk alienating any constituency by praising our club’s activities.

I would settle for them not trying to harm us by “evening up the score” and inventing crimes so that the narrative of “one’s as bad as the other” can have more traction.

    Ho hum!

Welcome back Paddy- you might have to change your name to something less feniany- Could I suggest Declan, Kevin or Hunskelper?

    —–

He scores goals, but to be honest i know little about him. It would be a question of whether he fits Brendan’s profile in terms of his ability to run and press etc. I don’t think he’s very pacey which would go against him.

  25. Delaneys Dunky on

Delighted that I will be watching Patrick Roberts for another season in the Hoops. Hopefully longer. He makes Celtic a more exciting team to watch. Canny wait to see him again.

    I’m afraid it is complicated.

Too complicated to base a judgement on a perception the Board were bragging.

But since its all made up no real harm done. :)
