It’s only a flesh wound. King goes Full Python

1151

Celtic hammered Newco 5-1 home and away last season, knocked them out both cups, won one other game and conceded a late equaliser, allowing Newco their only moment of (cough) glory last season.

We finished 39 points ahead of Newco (who were 33 points from bottom). As we set off for the summer, glowing after the first invincible treble in history, chairman of Newco, that complete muppet Dave King, told the assembled media, “In footballing terms I don’t think Celtic are as far ahead as they could have been – certainly with our new signings.”

The two 5-1 defeats now look like Python’s Black Knight losing his legs one at a time, but protesting they were little more than flesh wounds. Except Python was a parody, this guy is being serious!

So, Brendan, Peter, Dermot, get the finger out. These people don’t believe 5-1 is a substantial enough winning margin. When we pitch up at Ibrox on the weekend of 23/24 September, ‘go Medieval on their ass’ to borrow from Quentin.

Take five minutes to update yourself on The Road to Lisbon cyclists, who traveled from Celtic Park to Estadio Nacional last month.

This has been a phenomenal and inspiring effort by a group of Celtic fans – and so many donors.  What a great thing to be a part of.

For Roti, Bacchus is terrific … Guyanese, I think… but their roti with shrimp and sweet potato is outstanding! Its not far from the stadium, so when you are in for a game, let me know and we can give it a try.

That fawning doesn’t surprise me, though it’s certainly wasted on our reconstructed Billy.

  4. Perhaps the Board’s stance is more a political one rather than or as well as a financial one. We all seem surprised that they are refusing tickets on Friday the 14th citing fan safety.

Could they be turning the tables on UEFA by refusing the tickets and basically asking why is it deemed ok to play this game but it is deemed unacceptable for teams of other countries to play one another?

    Just a thought.

    Congrats on tour nuptials btw……

Re your post. If the tie goes ahead and Celtic have sensibly refused tickets to do as much as they can to prevent a potential situation then the Club has done as much as it can reasonably to obviate incident.

Probably best if we present a united front on this one, just to be safe. No need for any Tim to grandstand on this one I think. Just leave the huns to it. Simple.

    The boringly predictable.

Irrespective of the issue , the Celtic Board will be damned if they do and damned if they don`t .

By the usual suspects. With the usual agenda.

    Me.Me.Me.

Who gives a damn about health and safety anyway ?

    Thank God the Board does.

Ha ha aye sure they do!

How boringly predictable that you’ll blindly follow every word that comes from The plc.

Genuinely you should try at least some perspective. It would open up real understanding.

Bankiebhoy- agree, a difficult one for the Club to deal with IMO, maybe trying to get back in UEFA’s good books after a lot of nonensical fines that other clubs don’t get pulled for.UEFA should have made sure this tie couldn’t happen, or are they setting a trap? HH

As a consequence of the nuptials I wouldn’t be going to Belfast in any case. However, I’d be absolutely gutted to be missing it.

Every Tim I know who goes home/away will be desperate to attend this one. From texts/phone calls/ Twitter I haven’t seen one guy I know say they agree with Celtic’s decision.

This isn’t grandstanding by one or two malcontents, this appears to be a majority opinion.

  10. Bankiebhoy

As I said earlier. Will the Tims who end up in amongst the Linfield supporters be safer than if they were sitting with 6,000 Celts?

  11. I posted previously that I would hate us to meet Linfield in the second round of CL qualifying. I wouldn’t have attended because I will be out of the country but even if I was here I wouldn’t attend. The Ireland v Occupied six county World Cup tie being a major factor.

However, reading local Celts’ views that attending the game wouldn’t be a problem for them, I expected Celtic to take up their away allocation.

I just hope the San Marino team beat the Béal Feirste bigots.

Pity they didn’t see the same dangers of allowing 15k Celtic supporters into that castle greyskull uncertified death trap. Get a grip. Money it’s a gas grab that cash with both hands etc etc

it’s a Uefa pig-wraslin’ competition………we’re bound to get dirty either way matey, sadly.

Is it a trap, doubt it, but who knows. We should have been more paranoid all along.

I think this one is the result of negligence / incompetence.

Path of least resistance when all considered, probably for the best.

Who knows perhaps a few more might be tempted to ask the real reasons that Celtic chose to avoid these 17th C nuggets.

Those sad people on here who are berating Celtic for not handling the Linfield tickets are just wee boys, full of bravado, from the macaroon bars era, who have never grown up.

Someone has to protect them from themselves because they are incapable on account of being so filled up with shit.

Belfast in mid-July is no place for a Celtic support – the team will get the job done and fly out within the hour – that’s the right course of action.

Celtic Plc play on our faithfulness, our incredible support throughout the world. It’s sold tickets, strips, season tickets and merchandise for decades. Celtic use us, the support, to sell the club, we’re the biggest asset.

But not in Belfast because it might incur a fine. Ultimately, that’s what it’s about mate.

  22. This match is going to have a huge profile across Europe and probably around the world.

The sectarian singing on top of the fact that Celtic could not accept tickets as the Police could not guarantee the safety of our support presents a pretty unique opportunity to shine a light on these lowlife bigots.

Celtic will pump them home and away.

Big Yogi tells a story about playing for Scotland at their ground. After the game as the players were making their way to the team bus, they were surrounded by the local bigots.

The big man was targeted as he was a Celtic player and was subjected to intense sectarian abuse.

One got in Yogi’s face and spat on him after calling him a Fenian so and so.

This was in the days when the players would tie their boots around their necks and have them hanging by their chest.

The big man grabbed a boot and clocked the Bigot right in front of the RUC.

Celtic’s players of today will be the subject of intense intimidation. Celtic need to document this.

On the club not taking tickets, I said to my Bhoy that we’ll go anywhere except Linfield. He hates missing a game but agreed.

Our Irish support know the score. Yes the club should do more for them – a point I have made on here repeatedly – but I reckon they’ll understand.

Our club should have spoken up in advance to avoid this draw happening. Any criticism they get for doing the right thing re the tickets is probably something they had coming.

Is it always the case that it’s left to the support to communicate with Uefa?

  23. FRIESDORFER on 23RD JUNE 2017 11:07 PM

I’m sorry you won’t make it tomorrow mate but thank you for your kind words.

  24. I’ve read a few posts on here pro and anti about Celtc refusing tickets if we get linfield .

The idiot monkey huns in work tried to wind up by saying we are s******g ourselves, the ones that actually understand the goings on said we would be off our heads to travel.

I understand the Irish supports opinion that it is just down the road and the Celtic support would be made aware of where to drink and travel to the game.

I would to hate to think that it kicked off and not only Celtic supporters being attacked but it would be the agenda of thems to get us kicked out of the tournament as they have nothing to lose.

So I have to side that it’s a good call by Celtic. Which was a hard call to make.

  25. Every domestic team that we play…..

    from now on….

their fans will wait till, our fans…..

bring oot the “Provo song book”….

    and, it’ll be…..

“Oh yeez wur feart tae go the Linfield!”

    etc……

The ghosts of the JUNGLE wept.

its enough to make yer heart go…..off-oot.

  26. i fear for the safety of our players in this game never mind any of our fans that attend,

but i think the sensible decision would have been to sell tickets to our support,

many will try to get tickets for this game and will be at huge risk in among the home support

  27. Winning C

You think any Celtic player will encounter Yogi’s close contact?

    Sorry but that’s nonsense.
