It’s only a flesh wound. King goes Full Python

1151

Celtic hammered Newco 5-1 home and away last season, knocked them out both cups, won one other game and conceded a late equaliser, allowing Newco their only moment of (cough) glory last season.

We finished 39 points ahead of Newco (who were 33 points from bottom). As we set off for the summer, glowing after the first invincible treble in history, chairman of Newco, that complete muppet Dave King, told the assembled media, “In footballing terms I don’t think Celtic are as far ahead as they could have been – certainly with our new signings.”

The two 5-1 defeats now look like Python’s Black Knight losing his legs one at a time, but protesting they were little more than flesh wounds. Except Python was a parody, this guy is being serious!

So, Brendan, Peter, Dermot, get the finger out. These people don’t believe 5-1 is a substantial enough winning margin. When we pitch up at Ibrox on the weekend of 23/24 September, ‘go Medieval on their ass’ to borrow from Quentin.

Take five minutes to update yourself on The Road to Lisbon cyclists, who traveled from Celtic Park to Estadio Nacional last month.

This has been a phenomenal and inspiring effort by a group of Celtic fans – and so many donors.  What a great thing to be a part of.

I think a reasonable perspective, looking at the situation in the round would include all the possible dangers of this (potential) tie but the main one would be the safety of the support.

    HH.

  2. My original position was that i could see the sense in us not taking tickets with the match being played on the 11th or 12th right in the middle of the marching and with our fans travelling over on planes and ferries whilst mixing with the other lot. Having subsequently discovered that the match will now take place on the 14th at 5pm i can only assume the Board don’t want Celtic fans there full stop. Safety concerns is the given reason but thats hard to believe as even Linfield are saying it was ok for us to travel.

    You’re missing my point mate.

    Celtic refused tickets.

Celtic supporters desperate to attend will now buy tickets in the home end as a result of the decision.

This is more dangerous than 6,000 Celtic supporters attending together.

Ps I went to the Cliftonville game a couple of years ago. We were warned about the danger of Loyalist attacks.

    Nothing.

You were at Ibrox and saw our Captain being confronted unopposed by that fat Bigot pervert.

As per Yogi. Your dismissal of the possibility of threats and intimidation for our players is what’s nonsense in my view.

  6. THETIMREAPER…

The safety concerns is an issue with the board as will be the problem of us being tarred by the same brush as their bigots.

We will pump them, ffs the huns beat them last pre- season 5-0.

Get the the tie out the way with no ruction and progress to meet teams that will welcome our travelling support. HH

Selective concern, when it suits the PLC

    What about Ajax?

And all of a sudden, the wonderful PLC care, aye right you are.

We should be standing up to bigotry, not rolling over for it.

A fat guy jumped the hoardings at Ibrox and shat himself, he said as much.

Do you honestly think the RUC will allow a situation outside the stadium like you described with Yogi???

  9. I see the young Serbian U21 we were meant to be looking at didn’t get on until the 87th minute against Spain this evening. I hope Lee Congerton did some sightseeing while he was there.

I get your point that fans will go in amongst them to watch our team, as what happened when the monkeys barred us from ipox.

To be honest, I think this mob because of the timing will be a lot more of a threat.

They will be looking for scalps as that is there way.

We might disagree but I’ll still get you a beer tomorrow:))))))

  12. HT….I’m not missing your point.

    It’s not a difficult point.

The Club are in a horrible position, they’ve looked at the situation and made a decision based on the reasonable position if they decline tickets for this fixture it stands the best chance of resulting in the least harm to Celtica.

It is reasonable to expect that most Tims will see the difference between this fixture at this ground at this time of the year and do the sensible thing.

All things considered, it’s just common sense.

The Celtic Board have taken action which highlights the poisonous atmosphere which will inevitably surround this ” game ” .

That is the message the media will run with.

    Smart move.

    Smart Board.

  14. Hamilton Tim

Probably not but there is a danger over there.

Has the police guaranteed the safety of our players and officials? I like to see that happening.

Another thing, I’d also suggest Celtic take the 4000 tickets, pay for them and simply leave the stand empty.

It will lessen the atmosphere and also show the television audience that we could not attend.

  15. Bankiebhoy

I do take onboard what you’re saying and I do see the sense in it.

Despite that I still think you don’t fully understand the reality of what will unfold because of this decision.

Are Celtic supporters safer amongst their own or amongst them?

    That’s the siimple case.

To simply claim that we should go against EVERYTHING we believe in, supporting Celtic, is naive. In my opinion! :-)

  16. One thing i will say is that having seen the response to this today on social media, if the Board think they will be able to ignore a favourable result for HMRC with the big tax case they have another thing coming. One thing that has come out of the general election is the way in which social media is empowering groups and individuals in this day and age. Our Board would do well to stay ahead of the game in this respect before it bites them in the arse.

  17. WITS

The difference being from then UEFA pick their targets now, as has been said on here earlier by a poster we are small fry in their big picture… Mind the p**h over the rapid game… They would come down us if it kicked off and and it wouldn’t just be a replay.

Mind their is a monkey in UEFA’s ranks. HH

How is it that the PLC can take a decision like this, but cant challenge Dave King and his Merry Pranksters, and their goons at the SFA?

    Somebody explain it to me.

Easy, as the ld saying goes, follow the money. There is none to be made in Belfast. You know the rest.

  21. A wee pointer.

Some of us have been in meetings with Celtic this week regarding Celtic supporters who are currently ‘suspended’ by Celtic from buying season tickets or individual tickets.

The club’s attitude has been absolutely appalling.

If you look at the distribution of away tickets last season they only really care about those fans with money.

That’s not an option that’s reality.

The Portuguese and the Mexicans are hot-blooded Latins. passionate and very religious (check out Pena’s tattoos). Regardless of what they are told, I think it is inevitable that at least one of them will bless himself either entering the field of play or after scoring a goal. It’s what they do, second nature to them…the big question is- how will the neanderthals react? Neanderthally, I suppose…

  25. HT…..

If the Club don’t take tickets for this kinda unique fixture and scenario,

It is reasonable to expect that our supporters don’t then attempt to occupy seats next to those who will almost definitely be looking for trouble.

Those perhaps tempted will almost certainly find trouble.

Most reasonable people would come to the conclusion that this was avoidable with very little inconvenience.

So for safety’s sake Tims should do the right thing and steer clear.

    Common sense.

  26. the glorious balance sheet on

I’ve noticed people on this blog justify the plc board’s silence on issues such as the “same club” debate, LNS stitch up, title stripping, Res 12 etc by saying “oh the board need to stay silent, to do otherwise would make Celtic employees a target for violence”

The board don’t seem quite so bothered about employee safety in agreeing for our team to play in the heart of that cesspit, in front of an entirely partisan crowd, on a Friday night. Fecking insane.

Celtic should have insisted that the game be played on Tuesday 11th July and if PSNI couldn’t police it then there were 3 options :

    – switch first leg to Celtic Park

    – switch Linfield home leg to a neutral venue that could be policed on the 11th, such as Drogheda

    – UEFA boot Linfield out on account of their police authorities being unable to police the fixture

Should we start declining tickets if we get drawn against other travelers in bigotry such as Hamburg, Chelsea and Beitar Jerusalem?

I think we have started down a dodgy road here. The bigots have won.

  27. Sipsini

We’re now looking for 4 for each away game. Most of them come directly from Celtic because we’re entitled to them. A few have been required from other sources.

One of those sources has been a ‘rich’ fan who’s guaranteed tickets but doesn’t want them.

We’ve benefited but it’s a shocking state of affairs J.

  28. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS…

The huns in work reckon they will have been well warned not to bless themselves, as was the case with the Italian intake with their olde team.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were threatened with a fine if they did.

  29. Bankiebhoy

We’re certainly not going to agree ya flippin rocket! :-)

You don’t seem to get that Celtic supporters will attend regardless, I would.

Celtic’s decision makes this a much more dangerous trip.

  30. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

    HT

    I would/will attend too.

These curtain-twitchers have taken the fun right out of it:)

Have to go in disguise now:)

    HH

  31. Personally I’m delighted the board knocked back the tickets. If they hadn’t I’d be sitting at home for two days worried shitless about my son who would definitely have went. So 2000-3000 travelling supporters, leaving 2000-3000 parents partners and kids at home worrying themselves shitless. I think some on here are a wee bit selfish…..

  32. HT…

    Probably not chum.

    :)

Simple tho’ – those that would attend regardless should be supported in making a sensible decision in the circumstances to pass on this fixture and then resume their attend at all costs stance thereafter.

It’s personal choices that will almost certainly make this fixture more dangerous or not.

    Personal responsibility. Common sense.
