Jaroslaw Fojut on Celtic, Lennon and possibly moving this month

1057

Jaroslaw Fojut spoke to a Polish newspaper yesterday on his decision to join Celtic. Our man in Poland kindly transcribed:

When asked if he would like to move to Celtic this month, Jaroslaw said, “If I move to Celtic this winter a convenient outcome for all sides would need to happen.  If I need to stay in Wroclaw until the end of the season it will not be a tragedy.  My decision to sign for Celtic is not going to change my dedication to Slask.

“Whatever the outcome, I will not be aggrieved.

“The people at Slask offered me a good contract.  Before I signed for Celtic I met Slask chairman, Piotr Wasniewski and explained my situation.  I wanted to play fair with the club who were always fair with me.

“Money was not the main reason I decided to go to Scotland.  I do not have to justify myself by telling you what kind of club Celtic is and the real reasons behind my decision.

“My agent told me about signals from other club but there were no concrete offers.  Celtic were determined to sign me and when their offer came in I did not look for other options.

“I expect competition for a place in the Celtic team to be high but when I get a chance to play I will make good use of that privilege.  I have not spoken to Neil Lennon yet but I am aware of what he has said about me and look forward to meeting him.

“I remember playing against him when he was with Nottingham.  I think we played twice in the cup and once in the league but could not be sure.

“I planned to call Lukasz Zaluska and ask what it was like at Celtic but what if he told me things were bad there?”  Which Jaroslaw laughed at.

“Lukasz and I will have lots to talk about, we are both Legia supporters.

“I’m not going to argue about whether the Scottish or Polish league is better, everyone is entitled to their opinion on this.  I’m pretty sure we have no club in Poland who can compare to Celtic, whatever aspect you analyse, economic issues, organisation, supporters, stadium or anything.

“Let’s not forget Celtic play in Europe every year and battle for the biggest prizes.

“In a way going to Celtic is a dream come true but my dreams will have to change.  I will not going the Bhoys and feel happy, my ambitions will have to move on.  I am sure Lionel Messi still has something to win and achieve.  He has never been the champion of the world and that is why he must improve.  I’m pretty sure I will not be short of incentives.

“Celtic is a very big deal for me but you do not climb the mountain and say, OK, I’m done.

“My acclimatisation is going to me easier in many aspects.  I know the British game, I know what the coaches expectations are.  During my years in England I learned the language so I’ll not have problems with communication.”

  1. Neil Lennon launches Sport Relief in Scotland

By: Newsroom Staff on 19 Jan, 2012 14:45

NEIL Lennon today helped to officially launch Sport Relief 2012 in Scotland. The Celtic manager was at a five-a-side complex in Glasgow for the event, and he’s encouraging everyone to get involved, have fun and raise money for charity as well.

Speaking at the launch, the Celtic manager said: “I’d encourage everyone to go the extra mile for Sport Relief. You don’t have to be sporty.

“The most important thing is that you will be having fun while raising money to change lives here in Scotland, across the UK and the world’s poorest countries.”

One of the beneficiaries of Sport Relief cash has been the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), who run the successful Street Soccer Scotland project.

In Scotland, one in three GP consultations relate to mental health issues. SAMH´s own research has shown that people who experience mental health are less likely to be active and their own service users have said they face considerable barriers to accessing traditional opportunities to improve their physical health.

To address this, SAMH proposed a programme to promote the use of sport and physical activity as a way for people across Scotland to look after their mental health. The programme funds Street Soccer Scotland, which offers formal college-based learning, football coaching training and voluntary work experience.

The overall aim of the project is to empower people with long-term mental health problems to successfully manage their lives and their mental health through participation in physical activity. It uses sport to reduce isolation and loneliness among people with mental ill health, to provide training opportunities and tackle stigma.

One of the people Neil Lennon met at the launch was 40-year-old Robert, a former Dundee United professional whose life began to fall apart in 2010. In quick succession he lost his job, his partner, his home and his car.

He spent 10 difficult days on the streets of Glasgow feeling like his life was over. Little did he know that, within 12 months, he’d be leading Scotland’s team to beat Mexico at the final of the Homeless World Cup in Paris.

Robert said today: “Street Soccer Scotland and Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) have helped me to turn my life around again. I don’t know where I’d be in life if I hadn’t found this help.”

The Street Soccer Academy helped him rebuild his shattered life. He became captain of Scotland’s Homeless World Cup team, mentoring the younger players and leading the nation to victory.

And Neil Lennon added: “It’s great to see first-hand the work that Sport Relief funds. Robert, who I met today, from Street Soccer Academy, is proof that the money you raise really does help people.”

One great way of helping raise money is to sign up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Glasgow or Edinburgh on Sunday, March 25.

You don’t have to be sporty – you can walk or run either 1, 3 or 6 miles. Last time, more than 4,000 people took part in the Glasgow Mile, and the people of Scotland raised and donated a massive £2million.

Since then, more than 309 projects in Scotland have received grants thanks to money raised through Sport Relief.

Hooper won’t go anywhere in January. The club stand to lose more than they could gain by even thinking about it. Maybe in the Summer (I hope not) when he has a league winner’s medal to show for his efforts and we have a replacement in time for the start of next season, but it won’t happen this month.

One of the pains as I recall was prior to the LEO being installed some of the computing was done in St Annes at the Premium Bonds office. The cards were punched out in Glasgow and flown by Loganair to Blackpool for overnight processing with output flown back nexy day.

I got the chance of a wee hurl down on the plane, a two engined Piper Aztec I think. I swear that s we passed Blackpool Tower the pilot threw out a rope to hook the Tower that swung the plane around and lined it up to land at Blackpool.

I emerged shaken and stirred and with a thumping headache from engine noise.

Yup those were the pains my friend. :)

    1) Which Celtic player said 3 days ago

“I’m very happy. I’m back playing now and scored at the weekend. It was good to be back in the team.

“I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m a Celtic player and very happy here, winning games for Celtic and we’re two points clear at the top of the league just now.

“I’m just focusing on football – training, playing and scoring goals – that’s my job.”

    2) which current Celtic manager said three days ago

“I’ve no idea if Southampton will come back in. But they will get the same answer – that he’s not for sale.

“Goalscorers are priceless. If you look at Gary’s record in his time here, he’s got a goal in every one-and-a-half games.

“He was one of the leading scorers in the Championship. When I went to see him he stood out like a sore thumb.

“I think it’s been good business and he’s enjoying life here and enjoying his football.”

    3) which current Celtic manager said four days ago

“We haven’t had an offer that’s even tempted us,” added the Celtic boss. “We don’t want to sell our best players, particularly at this stage of this season.

“I don’t want to lose Gary anyway, full stop. I don’t think the speculation will bother him one bit in the slightest. He’s happy here.

“He’s enjoying his football and he’s very focused on the team.”

Meanwhile, Lennon continues his own pursuit of another striker.

“We’re trying to whittle it down a bit to a number of options,” he said. “But we’re no further down the line on that one yet.”

    James Forrest, just for you!

Once the FTT gives the green light and the punishment dished out, there should be no half measures from the Celtic board. We have them cornered like a problem dog. If rangers survive and are still in SPL the should be punished with a points deduction.

If they are liquidated and a Phoenix club is formed they should start over again down in division 3.

Either scenario should see Celtic sail off over the sunset.

If nothing substantial happens our board deserves grilled. One minute rangers are cheating, next they are getting away with it. If the board conspires to a no rough stuff type deal then that really spells end times for the board!

I agree with your comments concerning our board keeping their powder dry for the time being. I posted a few days ago to the effect that there was no advantage to be gained in giving the other lot advance notice of our position. In my opinioin, Newco will have their work cut out if they think they will be able to breeze into the SPL for next season. This, of course, depends on a number of factors including the extent to which we and other interested clubs are prepared to fight their application.

They want him but will take the player if Trabzonspor are not going to ask for money.

  19. In this window I wouldn’t sell Gary Hooper for anything…

What if Southampton gave us the proverbial £35m… are we going to go and buy Benzema or Di Natale? No because they aren’t available, and they wouldn’t come to the SPL anyway. There are better players than Gary Hooper but most of them are not available to us for any money.

What if we do sell Hooper for £12m and then put an offer for Jordan Rhodes? They will ask for £12m because they know we have 10 days and are desperate for a striker. The best we could but now is a punt on someone who may or may not be better than Gary Hooper at an inflated price…I mean if Jordan Rhodes is so brilliant and a value replacement for Hooper (and he has potential I admit) why don’t Southampton bid for him?

We need another striker to come in, settle and start scoring, before we let Hooper or Stokes go in the summer. We are flush in the middle and back but if either picks up an injury we would be in a tight spot right now.

  20. Kojo

There has is to be an acceptable bid, the rest is a waste of time. Southampton have never spent the kind of money required to buy our stars, and if they could the wages lied about in the press would destroy their strict wage structure in one fell swoop.
