Jo Inge Berget in ahead of Legia

715

As always, it’s important to get the players you want, not end up with fourth or fifth choice, so on that measure, I’m happy Ronny Deila has secured a player he knows well. Jo Inge Berget is a wide attacking player, who will fit into the manager’s high-tempo, pressing, style of play.

The deal, a loan which gives Celtic the option to sign the player permanently if he’s successful, places incentives in the right places.

Enjoyed watching the cycling this week? Why don’t you sign up for the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle, which takes place on 6 September. Details here. You’ll enjoy it, and do great things for the Foundation.

Welcome to Celtic, Jo.

09 46Big Joe, naw really mate was referring to an interview he gave

where he says we are doomed without rankers at the top table.

But to be fair most ex players and indeed current players have been quoted

    with similar thoughts.

Like policemen getting younger so season defining matches come earlier each year but tomorrow’s match is one. I cannot say I am optimistic – other than in Russia our record in Eastern Europe is atrocious and the team is not any stronger than a year ago at this stage when we hardly qualified majestically.

As for Jo Inge . I don’t know that I can get remotely enthused about us signing a player who hardly got a game for Cardiff and didn’t play at all for Udinese. He might be quite good but there is nothing in his record to suggest he’ll be anything other than a cog. He may turn out to be the next Lubo of course but the original , despite the misinformation in the MSM, had 80 caps , had played in a World Cup Quater Final and had been a stalwart at St Ettienne.

  9. Aye jimbo. Indeed to compete lubo with Jo is ludicrous

Jo got 2 games for Cardiff before he was hooked. Reviews were awefull

Quick bit of youtube scouting shows Jeff Louis to be something of a latter day Russell Latapy, but with pace.

    Now that would be something.

  11. Just watched that Jeff Louis score a hat-trick on youtube for Nancy against Le Harve.

Three great goals particularly the third one.

Any chance this is a true story?

John ‘Popeye Doyle’ Collins French Connection’s perhaps?

Also can people please calm down with the negativity? players come players go that’s football, the club carries on regardless.

Gone are the days of Antoine Fortune (£4,000,000) and Celtic on the cusp of a Euro exit to Artemedia or Utrecht. Good signs that RD and JC have studied the Celtic squad well, and line-ups have confirmed the assessment process, is ongoing, and that they have already made conclusions.

Buying players for ‘six’ CL games isn’t done in a hurry and the qualifiers came too soon for an unexpected change in management, especially when the transfer market still has Celtic licking some wounds?

NFL made some fantastic signings for Celtic arguably the best goalkeeper and centre back for decades, three superb full backs, when previous managers couldn’t find one. But like any manager including Saint Martin, the market is full of plus, and minus.

WGS went from Adam Virgo to Willo Flood and in between all round the wee houses before he ‘gave up’ Tactically inept Tony Mowbray was handed Robbie Keane on a plate, played Scott Brown at left back, and couldn’t beat Kilmarnock, but his tea was already oot.

WGS and NFL eventually did what Martin O’Neill could do, and set Celtic out to hold what they had, along the way there were ups and downs, and mistakes a plenty. NFL left Celtic to face Legia Warsaw with the best back five in living memory, and it’s up to RD to use it.

At the moment with the exception of that illusive main striker, only embellishment for the task of forty plus games, is required the Champions League qualifying players are still here, and we need to free up some more space to let the right ones in, so that we qualify next year with RD’s operandi.

If and it remains an if Celtic sell NFL’s bedrock, the modern MON WGS TM NFL process will begin again for Ronny and the Celtic support, there is no way to change the process, because money, SKY and UEFA have changed the way the game is won, over the last 25 years.

I think the main issue at the moment is the predictability of our current situation.

We still have not recovered from the shambles of last summer.

Very poor player recruitment efforts — if VvD had struggled in any way then the clamour for heads to roll would have been unstoppable.

We took good money in and we put some serious money out for a collection of stiffs.

AB was Groundhog Day / TP was great business for the seller / DB was a mistake.

If NL scouted these players and made the call then he has a lot of explaining to do.

If PL made the decisions then he should be out the door on the end of DD’s boot.

SPL players were available and ignored.

Shades go BTM and his strange / high cost MAF predilection.

Consequently we start the season exactly where we have left off — Weak at CF.

The fact that we have punted our most complete player / incomplete personality for that position just makes the pain all the stronger.

We still have a JF sized gap out wide.

Fair enough on this and the SB injuries but should the squad be this thin?

Questions have to be asked about our plans going forward?

The basic one is do we have one / can PL right it down on the back of a fag packet?

If he could, he should just to show that he can see beyond his bonus arrangements.

  18. The Battered Bunnet on

The plan going forward… extends beyond the next 24 hours. It’s not even a rolling 24 hour plan.

Mental I know, the next 24 hours being so important, maybe even more important than the last 24 hours, but there you go. We plan beyond the end of tomorrow.

I can’t quite believe it myself.

  19. iki & kingoh.

I was in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago heading for the bus station and the trams run alongside St Andrews Square and past the Bus Station but I don’t know where they go after that. The reason I ask is, I want to get a BB, Boarding House, Hotel Out of the Main thoroughfare, for prices sake, the tram will take you from the end of the line? to Murrayfield then back.

  20. oldtim67

That sort of question can cause a riot in a Leith Walk pub. They ripped up the road in Leith Walk for the trams and then they didn;t even go down there.

I would expect they will at some point in the future. The ground work has been done. They terminate at York Place as already advised.

It’s a sort of an end of the route rather than a terminus though.

Unfortunately the best back 5 in a generation will play with a VW sized hole just in front of them.

CL results — 2012/13 vs 2013/14 — suggest that the DM position is more important than Back 5 quality.

  23. MadMitch

I’m sorry but that post was worthy of the DR..

The window is still open and I’d like to think we will hold together a superb back 5 until we have qualified for the group stages. You noticed the current going rate for a striker ?

We’ll get a Miku type signing that hopefully pays off or a young fella that is a high step up from a Balde type disaster.

    I can see a plan. Why can’t you ?

    From previous article

I see we have Ermine’s buddy on telling us that any Celtic player could have scored the Tony Watt goal v Barca!

Not a chance. That goal scored in those circumstances was a thing of rare technical beauty, I won’t bore the blog with a full list of players who could or couldn’t achieve that memorable feat. Suffice to note that some folk really don’t understand this fitba very much…

Tony Watt has the potential to light up any game, sadly he has wrecked his Celtic career due to his unfortunate behaviour. I wish him well in his new role and look forward to watching him replicate that wonderful moment for many years to come.
