Jo Inge Berget in ahead of Legia

715

As always, it’s important to get the players you want, not end up with fourth or fifth choice, so on that measure, I’m happy Ronny Deila has secured a player he knows well. Jo Inge Berget is a wide attacking player, who will fit into the manager’s high-tempo, pressing, style of play.

The deal, a loan which gives Celtic the option to sign the player permanently if he’s successful, places incentives in the right places.

Enjoyed watching the cycling this week? Why don’t you sign up for the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle, which takes place on 6 September. Details here. You’ll enjoy it, and do great things for the Foundation.

Welcome to Celtic, Jo.

    Great post, sir.

Your holiday has certainly hit the spot!

  2. Nice to see PLC put trust in our assistant manager, sorry I mean manager, by employing his first choice transfer target on loan first deal. Considering the lad has played under the managers stewardship previously I’d think he’d know what he’s getting. Says much about trust club has in manager.

Try the Newington area in the south side for a b&b, but they’ll probably all be over-priced as the festival will have started. Loads of buses in the area. The 31 goes to/from Murrayfield.

  4. ST thanks for your ill mannered reply. The reason I asked was that you may have a different view of things -or not – if you were a regular -semi regular attender at the games. Much the way being there rather than watching on television gives you a different perspective, that was all nothing sinister or trying to beliitle you. Hail Hail Hebcelt

Gone are the days of Antoine Fortune (£4,000,000) and Celtic on the cusp of a Euro exit to Artemedia or Utrecht. Good signs that RD and JC have studied the Celtic squad well, and line-ups have confirmed the assessment process, is ongoing, and that they have already made conclusions.

Buying players for ‘six’ CL games isn’t done in a hurry and the qualifiers came too soon for an unexpected change in management, especially when the transfer market still has Celtic licking some wounds?

NFL made some fantastic signings for Celtic arguably the best goalkeeper and centre back for decades, three superb full backs, when previous managers couldn’t find one. But like any manager including Saint Martin, the market is full of plus, and minus.

WGS went from Adam Virgo to Willo Flood and in between all round the wee houses before he ‘gave up’ Tactically inept Tony Mowbray was handed Robbie Keane on a plate, played Scott Brown at left back, and couldn’t beat Kilmarnock, but his tea was already oot.

WGS and NFL eventually did what Martin O’Neill could do, and set Celtic out to hold what they had, along the way there were ups and downs, and mistakes a plenty. NFL left Celtic to face Legia Warsaw with the best back five in living memory, and it’s up to RD to use it.

At the moment with the exception of that illusive main striker, only embellishment for the task of forty plus games, is required the Champions League qualifying players are still here, and we need to free up some more space to let the right ones in, so that we qualify next year with RD’s operandi.

If and it remains an if Celtic sell NFL’s bedrock, the modern MON WGS TM NFL process will begin again for Ronny and the Celtic support, there is no way to change the process, because money, SKY and UEFA have changed the way the game is won, over the last 25 years.

Celtic to win in the Pepsi Arena and Murrayfield.

  6. BW — Part 2

CL qualification is the main element of our season.

When we make it all is rosy in the world.

When we don’t we struggle big time.

That is on the park, in the stands and on the balance sheet.

Times are difficult at the moment with the manager change — no issue.

However PL is paid big money to sort all this out.

We have a scouting operation outside the position of the manager.

We have money in the bank from the last two years.

We should not be scrabbling about 36 hours before a CL qualifier looking for an attacking MF.

Swooning over YouTube videos at this time is rank amateurism.

Shades of 2005 in all this where we bought players — quality CB apart — just a case we bought them 48 hours too late to play in the games that mattered.

Livibhoy. – I’ve got it now, All I have to do is try and get digs in the York Square area.

Remember the Festivals start this weekend so digs could be at a premium, especially central area

  8. Live within our means…despite increasingly difficult circumstances (ECL qualifying for example).

Build a proposition to attract young gems who stay for a period of 2-3 years

Grow them professionally to develop into stars

Use them to drive performances that win trophies and play good football

    Sell for a profit

    Repeat

Focus on qualifying for ECL each year.

Recognise that some years, we might not and don’t bang and bust.

Don’t go bust on the back of populist fans demands.

Life it ain’t fair and sky made that so but that’s the craic.

Poor return on scouting, tactics and performance are clearly there to be debated at times but the bones of a strategy meeting the current climate is above.

I didn’t say ban the BBC.

I said – ban the SMSM.

Don’t take any money from – radio / tv / press.

We get pennies form them anyway.

    Is that clearer for ye?

    ———————————————————————————–

Naw – no really any clearer at all Kev. What you originally said was:

“Would it not be better if…..Celtic banned the SMSM then, they would have to explain themselves on the international stage as to, why Celtic FC ‘dont’ deal with their local media?”

No mention of advertising money – you’re suggesting the world will be looking for some kind of explanation? I just pointed out that is pish since no-one would be in the slightest bit interested – per the huns situation with the BBC – no-one cares.

What you’re now talking about is not speaking to them or taking advertising revenue from them. And that would do what? Stop them writing stupid inaccurate stories about Celtic? I don’t think so. So naw – no clearer than before. Not really sure what your objective is at all in fact.

Can you try again for idiots (as you like to characterise us Celtic supporters!) like myself who actually go along and support the team?

  15. BW

You mention the gospel according to PL.

But where is the growth agenda — how are we supposed to move forward?

Is the only thing that is meant to grow PL’s bonus?

If you don’t grow you stagnate and then you die.

We have tried it before and the late 50’s / early 60’s were tough years.

The fire sale of vic to show off our balance sheet at the AGM stunk

You go and ‘support’ the team – good for you.

But, what ‘you’ have to take into account is that, when ‘you’ pay money into Celtic, ‘your’ also paying the very folk who, run ‘your’ club and will roll about the same bed as the, anti-Celtic establishment on ‘your’ behalf.

It is now nine years since proven quality, Boruc and Nakamura were signed.

Proven quality? Must have been a different Naka that was criticised on here for going missing, being too lightweight, being caught in possession, unable to tackle etc.

  27. I think we will see a couple more signings like Jo Inge Berget

I think that Ronny has come in and seen ‘better’ players than he had at his old club but they either aren’t fit enough, aren’t bright enough to get his approach or too used to the easy life of passing the ball sideways and don’t want to change.

I’m sure I read that if he has to tell a player to do something twice then that’s the last chance the player will get – I think several Celtic players are currently on their last chance.

He will bring in players in the short term who are possibly not as good but who will listen and buy in to his methods.

He is the boss now – it’s his way or the highway. He didn’t come here to fail.

    Ronny has my full support.

My recollection of the Boruc signing was he was just a run of the mill keeper at the time, who blossomed at Celtic.
