Jo Inge Berget in ahead of Legia

715

As always, it’s important to get the players you want, not end up with fourth or fifth choice, so on that measure, I’m happy Ronny Deila has secured a player he knows well. Jo Inge Berget is a wide attacking player, who will fit into the manager’s high-tempo, pressing, style of play.

The deal, a loan which gives Celtic the option to sign the player permanently if he’s successful, places incentives in the right places.

Enjoyed watching the cycling this week? Why don’t you sign up for the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle, which takes place on 6 September. Details here. You’ll enjoy it, and do great things for the Foundation.

Welcome to Celtic, Jo.

  1. The signings continue???

CELTIC boss Ronny Deila last night swooped for Cardiff striker Jo Inge Berget.

He is also poised to complete a £1.7million splash for Nancy’s Haiti star Jeff Louis.

Deila has captured Norwegian Berget on loan until January.

The hitman goes straight into Celts’ squad for tomorrow night’s Champions League qualifier in Warsaw.

Midfielder Louis, 21, won’t be signed in time for the Legia clash, but a deal for the Nancy ace is close.

Celtic have been pursuing Luis, who is in the final year of his contract, since before Deila’s appointment.

The new Hoops gaffer has been impressed by the attacking midfielder and has made his move.

Good Morning Someone said that Lukasz Zaluska with his today interview is looking for ticket away. Can someone post the copy of the interview here, please? Lukasz talked to Legia supporters website two or three days back. He did say nothing wrong. My guess is his interview was translated and twisted to make devil’s work to him, Celtic and Celtic supporters.

Legia match will be special moment for Celtic’s Polish Bhoy

By: Martin Dalziel on 28 Jul, 2014 15:49

LUKASZ Zaluska will complete a circle of history when he returns to Poland with Celtic for the UEFA Champions League Third Round qualifier against Legia Warsaw.

The Celtic goalkeeper first experienced UEFA Champions League action when his father took him to the Polish side’s famous victory over then English champions, Blackburn Rovers in 1995, and the memory of that famous 1-0 win was still prominent in his mind when he signed for his boyhood heroes in 2002.

Now, 19 years on from that historic victory, Zaluska will return to his homeland to see Legia in UEFA Champions League action once more, but this time as a Celtic player, and he is hoping leave Poland as a winner.

“It was my dream to play for Legia because when I was a young boy 18-years ago, Legia played their first and last games in the Champions League.

“My father took me to the stadium and I was sitting there with the supporters and I remember the game was against Blackburn Rovers, who had won the English league at that time.

“I remember Chris Sutton and Alan Shearer playing up front and Legia won 1-0.

“That was something special because I supported them as a young guy and my father surprised me by taking me to the game. It was in the Champions League against the champions of England and that was one of the best nights of my life.

“Legia haven’t been in the Champions League since that game but even if I’m a Legia supporter, I hope that’s not going to change this season.”

Zaluska went from fan to player for Legia Warsaw but never made any first-team appearances for the club because of the international stars that lay ahead of him at the time.

It was there that he struck up his lasting friendship with former Celt and Poland team-mate, Artur Boruc, and he took a lot of positives from his time at the club.

“I was a young lad,” he added. “I was only 18-years-old and I had signed with the champions of Poland.

“The dressing room was full of Polish stars and experienced players. I was third choice, Artur Boruc was second and we became friends instantly.

“He was always my room-mate in every pre-season and it was a great experience for me.”

Much has changed in Poland since that time and the country is keen to capitalise on the Euro Championships it shared with Ukraine in 2012.

Polish teams have always had an appetite to compete on the European stage at club level as well but expectancy has increased as a result of hosting the international tournament.

“We had the Euro Championships a few years ago so in almost every city there’s a new stadium and I think money is a bit bigger than it used to be in Polish football,” the Celtic keeper added.

“Every year the champions of Poland are dreaming of the Champions League because it will bring in money for Polish football, and that’s why the game will be so important for both teams.

“I watched both Legia’s games against St Patrick’s and after an hour in the home game in Warsaw they were losing 1-0 and the supporters were so angry. They were shouting at the players and the manager and that’s never a help, to be honest.

“After they lost the first league game and then the Super Cup as well, the game away against St Patrick’s was massive for them so we will see how they do against us.

“It’s not going to be an easy game, especially away from home. There will be 40,000 people and there will be a great atmosphere.

“They will be strong at home but I’m optimistic, like always, and I hope and believe we will play in the next round.”

He added: “Every year Legia win the league people keep saying, ‘Maybe Celtic will get Legia this year,’ and now it’s happened.

“I can’t wait until the game now. It’s going to be something special for myself but like I said, I’m pretty sure we will be playing in the next round.”

  6. Mackjay1 No it’s not this one. I guess it was the interview given to Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy and legia.net given two or three days back.

Legia Warsaw supporters will turn out in force for the club’s key clash with Celtic

Specialist officers have been drafted in and will work with local officers and match stewards at the Parkhead Club’s Champions League fixture against Legia Warsaw.

And Police Scotland issued a booze warning ahead of tomorrow’s crucial game.

Fans travelling to the match will be targeted to ensure they do not bring alcohol to the stadium.

Officers also vowed to crack down on supporters who have been drinking excessively or behave rowdily.

They warned travelling Celtic fans that “robust policing” would be in place.

Thousands of supporters are expected to travel to Poland from Glasgow Airport today and tomorrow.

A Police Scotland statement said: “We’ll have officers there to help keep supporters safe.

“Supporters travelling to Warsaw remember – don’t attend the stadium whilst under influence of alcohol, robust policing in place.”

It is understood Scottish officers usually only make trips abroad for “high-profile” matches.

For me, JJ was grand on the European stage and, p#sh domestically. imho

I still remember listening to the SSB panel discussing JJ just after we signed him.

Hugh Keevins, BFSDJ, Peter’McGuire’ Martin and, Davie Provan were on the panel and, for me…HK and PM set a trap for BFDJ by, decrying JJ’s signing as being ‘underwhelmed etc’ and, BFSDJ jumped in wi baith feet to say…”The Celtic support are not too excited about Jarosik – they wanted some big name.”

Davie Provan butted in…”Well Derek, he was a big enough name for Jose Mourinho to sign him for Chelsea. I mean, you don’t find yer way into JM’s dressing room unless, you’ve got something about you.”

BFSDJ – rag-dolled by Davie Provan.

  18. New Bhoy can play anywhere across the forward line. Sounds good to me. Really lacking a winger and expect him to play wide. Good height too something we lack in the forward areas. Last comment from me on Tony Watt. Lived the dream. Played a huge part in one of Celtic’s greatest ever European wins. We are all disappointed it didn’t work out for the Bhoy but he has a 5 year deal in Belgium so he will be set for life. It’s a good move for him. Ask yourself this. If Celtic bought a player who had been criticised by 3 or 4 managers on a 5 year deal would you be happy? I hope Tony makes it I really do but the signs don’t appear to be great. Hope he matures and makes a great career for himself. He has the talent but something just doesn’t appear to be right. Good luck Tony. Thanks for the memories.

    From the Scostman……………………………………………..

As Berget arrived, Celtic’s back-up goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska admitted he is puzzled why his club haven’t spent a single penny in the transfer market this summer and insists they miss Rangers in the top flight.

The 32-year-old is likely to be on the bench again against his former club Legia tomorrow night. He is looking forward to going back to Poland, but admits he is surprised by Celtic’s lack of transfer activity this summer, with only Gordon being signed so far on a free transfer.

He said: “We have a new coach, Ronny Deila, and he has introduced new tactics, but we’ve not yet been involved in a serious match to test them. We beat a team from Iceland without any hassle, so we will get our first real test this week.

“In our team, Georgios Samaras left because the club didn’t offer him a new contract. For
the first time since I’ve been at Celtic in almost five years, the club has not bought one player this summer.

“Every year something has happened, but now there is silence. We have played two years in a row in the Champions League group stages and we have 40,000 season ticket holders, so any rumour about the poor
financial condition of the club is probably exaggerated. And without Rangers, the league is not what it once was.”

Johnny Collins was a ‘quality’ Celtic player, one of the best that I have seen in the hoops.

I know that he is a quality guy, despite some of the ‘cheap’ slings and arrows he gets on here form folk who wouldn’t know a ‘quality’ Celtic player if one came up and booted them on the erchie and, he was the victim of a back-stabbing scenario from Hibs players led by the odious ‘heid’, definitely something wrong wi folk who have ‘heid’ in their name – not to be trusted. Collins has an admirable Celtic stock about him, despite having to play for his beloved Celtic whilst the team were suffering under a series of bad managers. Yet, despite the lack of ‘quality’ in the Celtic dug-out during Johnny’s spell in the hoops, for me at least Johnny Collins ‘quality’ always shone through. He is massive at this juncture for our club. imho
