Jota, the hamstring and the contract

231

It has been five weeks since Jota pulled up clenching his left hamstring against Hearts.  The intervening period has been busy for Celtic, six wins, one of which was the League Cup Final, and a draw, three signings and a double contagion of further hamstrings and illness, put thoughts of our Portuguese winger to the back of our minds.

Ange Postecoglou intimated his was the most severe of the many similar injuries sustained in December.  Initial hopes were that he would return after the winter break, which is far from sure as things stand.  The player has rested but not tested his injury yet.  He has had the equivalent of a close season on the sidelines and will have a corresponding ‘preseason’ recovery regime to get back to full fitness.  That starts after his injury is considered fixed.

Jota has been an irrefutable success since arriving on loan from Benfica in the summer.  He delivers goals, assists and the best at the club in transitioning defence into attack (what was known as an out ball, in old money).  Celtic are right to setup the process to confirm his permanent transfer, at a reported £6.5m, he is value.  Still, that hamstring.

Hamstrings are one of the most pernicious injuries a player can get.  They can inflict untold damage across many years.  Shaun Maloney was plagued for years, before eventually finding a way to train and play that protected his damaged muscle.

Get the deal with Benfica ready to sign, pending a fitness test as late in the season as possible.  If he does not play for an extended period without remission, we should not sign him.  If you want to maximise your potential as a club, there is no room for sentiment or wishful thinking.

  1. Did anyone, who still reads our Colonel Mitchell of Aden posts, with his initalisation notice his attempt today at 12:24

He says that he uses initials as its too slow to type full names yet today he used JPNF to mention our Portugese winger who everbody in the football world knows as JOTA.

He also used NC a few weeks ago about an 1930’s politician. Richard Head.

JPN=Joăo Pedro Neves Felipe & NC= Neville Chamberlain whose name must be on the tip of the tongue of our younger supporters

Wonder what he’d use for Pele

That looks like an old one but I have never heard it. I like it, though and will certainly use it in the many occasions which give the opportunity so to do !

Follow direction of Pcr test only j

As Dessybhoy infers pcr and lft tests are of different in how efficient they pick things up.

Try not take a pcr for 90 days after your positive result as you are more than likely to result in a positive, not due to having covid but due to antibodies working inside you.take care and hopefully you’ll be OK for hibs next week.:-) will chat more then

Patterson to Everton done, £10.2m (£5m up front) potentially going up to £15.2m, Rangers will be due £1m for every 50 starts he makes within the original timeframe of his first contract, there’s also a 10% sell-on clause on any profit within the next three years, 5.5yr deal.

    Hail! Hail!

    ———————-

So quite easy to find this being quoted elsewhere, but not in the Scottish media.

Reality check for the cash flow.

Guaranteed and real agreed fees are £10.2m.

Of which in Jan 2021 – £5 million in as the upfront payment to make the trade.

£5.2m balance will be scheduled payment tems, best case scenario for cash flow would be over the current financial year. But another case could be payments scheduled over many months, many quarters or even over the term of the boys contract (I dont know any accountancy reason that cannot be structured) ie over the term of useful usage of the asset.

The other potential £5m is dependent on scaled appearances 50,100,150 etc etc, again if that is over the length of the contract it takes at least 5 seasons to make those appearances.

They will need to hope tyhe guy doesnt become injury prone once actually playing regular high tempo football games.

The sell on cause is also highley unlikely, imho, he needs to be an established super star PL player and sold in season 3, and make a profit over what the £5m fee or the £10.2m fees ?

Then again, there are players who circulated through many teams for many fees over the years, its a market that often doesnt make sense.

So anyways, they just made a dent in the cashflow income, but lets see where it get used. I jst saw Ashleys Panzer go up the copland road.

    Interesting and plausible.

  21. HS unfortunately the PCR for want of a better word trumps a LFT.

You are the second person today to tell me the same circumstances, as the whole strategy in England and to an extent in Scotland revolves around negative LFT it makes you wonder if there is any logic or they have made the choice of letting everyone get it
