Keane asks not to be considered

1184

Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct.  The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club.  These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  1. When McCoist was starring in the Rangers glory years in the 1990s they used to train at Jordanhill College. At the time this was the teacher training college and was part of Glasgow University. The college was subsequently sold to Strathclyde University and after occupying it for a numbers of years they moved out leaving the premises empty.

Today it is maintained by Strathclyde – the grass is cut and is always in excellent condition. It is more private today than during their 9IAR period as there are no students or University staff. There are plenty of car parking spaces etc.

Rangers used to arrive in buses from Ibrox – train then head back on the bus to Ibrox. One of their directors has plenty of buses.

There’s there answer. Cheerio Murray Park…

Blue tie Mckay says keane says no to Celtic

He probably says rangers got relegated two years ago too

  3. Ruggy – I just wanted to use that rather bad joke. Hard to beat a R’glen Tim – and in my humble opinion the greatest player to grace a Hooped Jersey was a Ruglonian…..

As they say in these parts….. aff oot. Actually what they say in these parts is ‘I’m away on…..’

  4. It’s an ego thing with R.K…..like a good salesman he probably tried to close the deal in his favour, and Celtic were reluctant to shake hands until they’d spoken to all preferred candidates

  5. Evening folks, happy to see Roy Keane ruled out of the running for the managers job. His managerial record was just not good enough by my reckoning.

My first choice would be Paul Lambert.

A great Celtic captain, has European experience and success as a player. Earned his Managerial wings going through the lower leagues, and presently holding his own at a tough gig at Villa.

I think he would do very well for us as Manager.

The last time Celtic secured a ‘box office’ manager it heralded significant investment in the playing squad.

Whether the investment justified the outcomes is a mute point but we seem to have 2 basic options in response to falling attendances; invest to try and improve product and (in terms of the CL) outcomes or continue to spend within the immediate income stream.

The risk with over investment is non realisation of expected outcome and future austerity.

The risk with under investment is under achievements, reduced quality product and declining income streams.

These needbto be carefully considered decisions not predetermined by a dogma.

Anyone else worried the club is becoming dogmatic?

  7. I know you can’t hurry these things – ie the appointment of the manager of CFC.

…but gonnae hurry up and at least issue a statement and tell us what is going on?!

Your posts are distinguished because you don’t resort to anecdote or ‘what I’m hearing’.

We’ve even had chapter and verse on here why Neil Lennon left, in minutae of budgetary detail, when no one and that means no one, knows other than NFL and PL why he left, or what the potential myriad of reasons were. Stuff becomes factual overnight in cyberspace because of ‘The Daily Record world’ that still permeates Scotland.

I was carried away with Keane’s imagery and persona, and was even blithe to overlook his non existent success rate.

That’s the way Celtic get you, and yes, in the greater scheme the club is in rude health, and superbly run, I passed by today on the way to the Forge and it’s like a city within a city mainly due to the Commonwealth games, but the place is alive, and a hive of activity and buzz.

This is a time where we mustn’t align the supremo market to the basement players market we manipulate so well. We need the board to be startled out of narrow minded football naivety, and short lists, filled with Mowbrays and Coyles

The Celtic manager is out there.

Hiddink was about to be put forward but double D put his own man in there in MON.

*I for one was not pleased and thought we would become Leicester O’Celtic, however, I must admit that I was willing to put up with it as long as we won trophies, kind of selling my soul.

MON worked out but somehow think we missed the boat with Guus.

    Good evening all

Had a few days off the blog after a poor experience. Thought it was the best decision.

Had a great blether with BMCUW earlier today.

    dena29 & jamesgang

Thank you so much for your concern. Be assured, I will meet you both at CP this coming season. Dena, meet you again :-) jamesgang, for the first time.:-)

So, who is going to manage us this coming season, personally, I haven’t a clue. Will prefer to wait for “the statement”.

Could it be that all discussions were moving along nicely till a domestic discussion on hubbys new job meaning wife and family relocating ended with a not going to happen and hubby had to make the call to say he didnt want to continue with application but thanks anyway?

  21. Quietly relieved the keane time bomb has passed us by. After the initial appointment the spotlight would have drifted and then we’d just be waiting for a fall out / outburst . No thanks .

Stevie Clark would do for me but as stated before on here think we are missing a trick if there is no role somewhere for a young innovative Celt like JC.

NO to flavour of the month candidates McKay and Coyle . And unless Pep Guardiola makes himself available , no to a short termist foreign coach. We need someone putting down roots and hungry to succeed.
