Keane asks not to be considered

1184

Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct.  The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club.  These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  1. The Token Tim on

As with the usual transfer window speculation bollox, I am underwhelmed/apathetic with/to all the manager speculation.

i’ll sit back and await the announcement as and when.

I would be relatively happy with Steve Clarke or big Malky though.

Either way wont make a whit of difference what I think or like though……

    HAIL! HAIL!

Dodged the bullet there, bet his shadow is happy! Ernie lynch bang on the money, maybe its not an attractive job after with expectations and budgets on offer and maybe PL needs a yes man.

Would be happy with clarke or moyes.

  3. Shrewd work by Lawwell… Float RK as the king awaiting.. Creating smokescreen … Creating anxiety. Now leaving any appointment as looking like the. ‘Better’ option…

    Master of manipulation!

  4. People here are jumping in on both sides as if they know what they are talking about. The truth is we know eff all. We know what we read & hear on MSM that is all, and IMO they know eff all either. Whether Keane declined the job or was never offered the job is immaterial all that matters is that we end up with the right man who will take us forward as a Club. Clock is ticking towards the qualifiers let us hope for white smoke soon and an inspired choice.

    hoora hoora KOJO is staying.

now could you finish the story about the woods.

I agree -Henrik for me. Thats the way lots of big clubs are going these days . Get in a young coach . He has a better playing cv than most . He should get the respect from players. Hes got some experience of coaching in Sweden and now he is ready for the big one.

Just heard from an impeccable source that the decision has been made….

Steve Clarke gets your mojo working? Lucky you. You must be wired in a similar way to that Harry met Sally women. Not me. My mojo is dead as a dodo when I think of Clarke.

    May I be wrong.

What’s character assassination about what I just wrote? He is a proud man, as he should be with his sideboard full of outstanding accomplishments in the game.

That he is also arrogant is without question, and beyond dispute.

I am stating facts, not opinions.

  11. I, for one, would be happy if Keane doesn’t come here.

And just to be clear: ABFOC

Hail Hail whoever’s the next Celtic manager !

  12. MON fuelled the RK hype, which will now be portrayed as a snub by the MSM here. Following the rumoured weekend meetings with a variety of candidates, the board should hopefully be in a position to appoint imminently,we need to make keane yesterday’s news.

  13. Stevie Clarke

    Henrik

    the token tim,

I’m with you on the announcement business, just sit back and relax, it will come very shortly. I would still like us to come up with something imaginative from Europe, someone who will get us playing good flowing football, at the outside I would still be happy with Steve Clarke, we should have had him about 30 years ago.

  16. While I have no axe to grind with Roy Keane I’m relieved to learn he is out of the running.

He is not the man for the job – just now.

it would have looked bad had he walked out of the Ireland camp again.

If he sticks with Ireland for another two years and has some success then he might well be the heir apparent

By the way, arrogance is not a deal breaker. I like arrogance. I hope our next manager is an arrogant git, and with good reason. Mourinho is arrogant to a fare-thee-well, and I dislike it intensely, but if he was at Celtic Park I would learn to live with it :)

  18. …..so there we go, Celtic – a club in touch with its fans.

    Who’d a thought that?

    An honourable position all round.

Roy……..stay and learn your trade from Martin, you’ll be a valuable assistant there.

  19. If Milan can be coached by 40year old Pippi Inzaghi why cant we have Henrik .

Steve Clarke is a great assistant , I doubt hes got the personallity for the Celtic hot-seat.

On the bright side, Ownr Coyle said no last time around.

Better standard of knock back this time. (Or is it…)

Couldn’t agree more – Celtic will be viewed as a thankless task by some managers, a place where, if you do win the league, it’s not even an event, while if you lose your career is over.

What we need is someone for whom the job would be an attractive proposition – a young, relatively inexperienced manager who has fresh ideas about the game and would see managing the club, with its forays into Europe, as a challenge (i.e. Neil Lennon 4 years ago).

No night out with Oli Reed or those albino lesbians then. Instead we will have a night in with Ed Miliband and his 97 page essay on Chinese trains.

    Back to work. Offski.

Not only listening but respecting us and taking head of what we say.

Except of course that the line at the moment is that it was RK who knocked us back, not the other way around.

    Tangled webs indeed.

Stringer – Moyes will be taking a break from the game. His head’s messed up after being sacked by United.

Clarke would be a great No.2 for a young manager. I wonder if he’s prepared to go back to being an assistant?

  28. I am not sure if it is something to do with the English language.

A lot of the reports are saying that RK turns down Celtic job?

You can only turn a job down if you have been offered the job.

The real story is that RK has ruled himself out of the running for the Celtic job… he has asked not to be considered.

That to me does not equate to turning the job down irrespective of the numerous reports that is circulating about that RK has been offered the Celtic manager’s job and we are just waiting on his reply.

  29. By the way Pippi going to Milan means Celtic fan Clarence Seedorf is now avaiable to take over at Paradise.

Milan are a mess right now, and no guarantee Inzaghi will be a success.

And why was Odemwinge Clarke’s fault?

  31. So RK does not want to be considered for the Celtic job.

This is rather different to him turning the job down.

Discussions undoubtedly took place, but it looks as if he was NOT offered the job.
