Kilmarnock 0-6 Celtic

1028

The Scottish Premier League title was secured in emphatic fashion at Kilmarnock this afternoon as The Champions recorded the highest winning margin by any team in the league this season before celebrating an unforgettable league title.

There were sterling performances all over the field for Celtic but it was Charlie Mulgrew who made it his business that there would be no mistakes today.  He scored two and created another two of Celtic’s opening four goals before a late flurry finished the scoring.

The opening goal was a bullet header from Charlie from a Kris Commons corner with less than 7 minutes on the clock.  Mulgrew could have added a second three minutes later when he combined with Commons on the edge of the area before trying to clip the ball past Cammy Bell in the Kilmarnock goal but on this occasion his attempt went wide.

Glenn Loovens made it 0-2 after 15 minutes when a short corner was played across the field to Mulgrew on the right.  Charlier swung in a deep cross to the back of the six yard box for Loovens to of back across goal and into the net.

On 35 minutes Mulgrew cut inside from the left wing and opened space for a delicious right foot shot inside the far post to put Celtic 0-3 ahead and in dreamland.

Moments later Adam Matthews crossed to the dangerous Commons who could have turned and shot but played the ball into the past of Georgios Samaras who drew a magnificent save from Bell.

Seconds before half time Mulgrew sent in a mirror copy of his earlier cross for Loovens but this time Gary Hooper raced onto the ball at the back post to fire into the net and give Celtic a four goal lead at half time.

Commons, who played as a false centre forward for most of the game to great effect, should have earned a penalty on the hour mark when he was barged off the ball when clean thought inside the box but his distinct hooped shirt counted against him.

Kris then played a magnificent pass onto the rampaging Loovens who injured himself in a challenge with Cammy Bell as his shot went narrowly wide.

The second half looked set to end without a goal before a couple of late contributions, the first from Ledley who combined with Stokes before clipping the ball over the goalkeeper.  Gary Hooper then fired an unstoppable shot into the postage stamp corner from 19 yards to complete the rout.

Have a Champion Easter and enjoy your well earned celebrations.

    Good Evening,

Amig all of the Euphoria over today’s magnificent achievement, can I ask you to pause, just for a moment and think about people you have never met!

Celtic Football Club was formed by people of a like minded spirit to help others who they had never met.. and never would. Today, through the internet and various other mediums, there will be people celebrating Celtic’s success who have absolutely no interest in football whatsoever, but who support Celtic becuase Celtic supporters have supported them.. and will continue to support them.

As You know, I have been trying to raise funds for Niamh Curry who has the same disease as Vanessa Riddle. She collects funds here: http://www.justgiving.com/NiamhsNextStep

However, through that I have been put in touch with another charity for terminally ill kids called I Believe in Magic!

Well I do believe in Magic in all sorts of ways– from turning around a 15 point deficit to the Magic of wuinning the title through to the magic helping hand of Celtic Football Club. I also believe that strange things– Magic Things– happen at Celtic Park— Just as Mr Larsson or Mr Lennon, Mr Hartson or a guy called Lubo!

So amidst all the celebration, please remember Niamh and the likes of Niamh. I add below an exchange of e-mail beyween myself and Jean from I believe in Magic. If you can take the time to read them then that would be great because these people have no giant umbrella charity to shout for them– Not Oxfam, or cancer relief, or Bernardos or any worldwide organisation like that– but hey– they do have us………. and that is what makes the legend of Celtic so important– even to those we have never met and who are not the greatest football followers.

And of course it is something that others will just never understand……..

    Hail Hail

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for your email and for taking an interest in Believe in Magic..

As a mum of five, children have always been very close to my heart and, even before we began the charity, always tried to make a difference whenever possible.

I was born in London to a large, poor but very happy family and always considered myself to be lucky to feel loved and safe.As one of the poorest people in our neighbourhood, many people would give us clothes or even food at times.Though it was hard to have so little. I now consider what a very fortunate start I had to learn so young the really important things in life are health, happiness and love.

I worked hard and started a business.

Before Meg was ill we travelled extensively, always visiting schools, orphanages and townships taking whatever we could cram in our suitcase for the children. Meg even arranged for a company to donate thousands of pounds worth of clothes to a lovely orphanage in Mombasa. The children still wear the clothes today even though we sent them 4 years ago. Such a wonderful feeling seeing happy, smiling photos of them!

Sadly 4 years ago Meg became very poorly and has had 23 operations, many on her brain. She is in constant pain and has to sleep bolt upright every night as the pressure on her brain increases too much when she lies down, even though she has a shunt inserted in her brain draining into her stomach.

Throughout this time we have met so many seriously and terminally ill children who have all been inspiring, brave and a real honour to know.

Although Meg has raised thousands of pounds for other charities she wanted to set up her own, so in August last year Believe in Magic was born.

As we had no spare cash to set it up Meg designed and built the website and arranged all the fantastic prizes for a national raffle which enabled us to have the funds to become a registered charity (1145557)

In just 8 months we have had 2 Magical parties at Hamleys Toy Store which was closed to the public, Arranged for 5 beautiful very poorly girls to be transformed in princesses for the day and see a show ( including @niamhsnextstep) , arranged for a little boy to spend the day with his football heros and watch their match, another very poorly girl to publish her own book, and many, many more wonderful things to help put a smile on childrens faces!

We also care for our children and their families in any way we can. Being a parent of a seriously or terminally ill child is so very hard at times!

We have been overwhelmed at the kindness and generosity of people without them none of this would be possible.

Believe in Magic has come so far, so quickly which is wonderful but it brings with it so many new referrals from seriously and terminally ill children and not enough funds.to do all the wonderful things we want.

Thank you so much for everything you are doing for Niamh. She is the sweetest little girl, always caring about others and asking how Meg is. she needs so much help and support and I know you are doing so much for her.

I hope you are all truly proud of what you do and the difference you make. I know the lovely Vanessa has been helped so much by you all!

There are so many wonderful people out there and it is always a pleasure to meet someone like you who really makes a difference in this world!

With love to you and all your band of wonderful helpers
