Languishing in Paris

710

When watching Real Mardrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich it is easy to be discouraged at the gap between where we are and the quarter finals of the Champions League, but despite the many hundreds of millions spent on both Paris St Germain and Chelsea, the standard of passing and decision making throughout their game last night was abysmal.   Despite their win, PSG were the worst offenders last night, even the Great One was poor.

There is now a real prospect that no English side will make it to the semi-final stage of either European tournament for the first time since 2003, when Liverpool were last to drop out, at the quarter finals stage of the Uefa Cup……..  You’re welcome.

What struck me most watching last night’s game was Sky TV’s Gary Neville pondering how long PSG’s star players would languish in such a poor league.  This is the French league we’re talking about here, not the Scottish Premiership, it’s Paris, not the ‘New East End’!

It’s easy to mock Neville but he asks an interesting question, will players always migrate to a higher-profile league?  If so, there are more clubs than just Celtic in need of structural change.

Baggio scored outrageous freekicks, I don’t know his consistency though, I despair at Ronaldo as he insists on taking them all, messing up most, so, a youtube may make him look like the best, personally, I think he is far from it.

Nice question and looking forward to the nominations, hopefully with youtube linkies…..

Your post about the robot and IQs reminds me of the story about Boris Spassky.

At the height of the Cold War in 1972, he lost to Bobby Fisher in the World Chess championship in Iceland.

There was great concern when he returned to Moscow.

The Kremlin felt that his IQ of 350 was just too high.

He was thinking far too far ahead.

Solution was to get it down by 150 to 200.

He was put on a machine which reduced is IQ by 5 points per minute.

The nurses in charge decided to go for short tea break, before returning to shut off the machine.

They got engrossed in gossip and forgot about poor Boris for two hours.

They thought Boris had flaked it. If alive, his IQ was minus 250.

    They shook him.

    Say something, Boris, Speak.

Boris did speak, much to their relief…….

“Hallo, Hallo, we are the Billy boys…..”

    A true story.

Got to agree Baggio was pretty good too but not just good enough to better Naka.In my opinion of course.

Although I have nothing but contempt for your offensive raving, I nonetheless find myself in a situation where I have to thank you for your constant publicity for the ancient & proud churchland of KILBOWIE, the ultimate gem in Paisley Abbey’s rich crown.

    Very interesting

There issues could all be tackled if there was an appetite amongst the clubs to question the SFA

As the only act in town, with assets in excess of all others combined, why if they have the will to do so, can Celtic not tackle it alone.

If they leave another 18 months, THEY will be back, and the chance will be gone.

When it suits, Celtic will urge the fans to rally round the club. Perhaps it is now time for the club to rally round the fans.

    I don’t think it’s all about money

CFC will be portrayed as simply anti Sevco ….if others engage then that diversionary slur won’t carry so much weight

CFC will need to lead on this …..not sure they’re interested tho

  15. This week there has been a bit of enjoyable reminiscing about Lisbon and the Lions.

My own favourite Lions story occurred at Celtic Park many years after the great event.

Around about half past five one Saturday evening after a few hours of glad handing in the hospitality suites, three of the Lions, Bobby Murdoch, Bertie Auld and Jinky were making their way to the main stand. In one of the passages in the North Stand they were stopped by a suit who enquired as to who they were and what they were doing.

One of the trio, you can take your pick. replied ‘We’re Legends, just who the F**k are you?

That sponsor asks perfectly valid questions of Regan that member clubs, including Celtic, as well as Uefa should be asking.

Incidentally are any of the former referees who pony up in the Rangers directors box these days, or who hold court on the after dinner circuit spouting about how they “gave that Celtic mob nothing in the 47 old firm games ah refereed” still involved as referee assessors? I’m sure that Willie Young for one is still involved in the recruitment training and assessment of referees despite his frequent appearances in the Ibrox directors box.

  20. SFTB mentioned earlier a few CQNers who have chosen to stop posting. I would hazard a guess that they have so chosen because of the increasing number of posts which have little or nothing to do with Celtic.
