FORMER two-time Celtic boss Neil Lennon is on the look-out for the new managerial post after being sacked by Omonia Nicosia.
The Northern Irishman was dismissed by the Cypriot club just seven months after taking over from ex-Manchester United and Ibrox defender Henning Berg who was also axed by the club’s hierarchy.
Bizarrely, Lennon was allowed to address the media just moments before he was informed he had been fired.
The Hoops legend spoke to the local press in the aftermath of the team’s First Division loss to Nea Salamis. The club posted the full video of the conference social media channels just 30 minutes before they released a statement confirming that Lennon had left Omonia.
PRESSING PROBLEMS…Neil Lennon at a recent media conference in Cyprus.
It read: “Unfortunately, the ongoing competitive instability and the significant losses of points in the championship, are the main reasons that made us decide to end our partnership. Mr. Lennon has written his name in the history of Omonia and deserves the respect and recognition of all of us.
“Our paths separate, but the memories of our collaboration will unite us forever. We sincerely thank Mr. Lennon for his contribution and wish him every success in his future career.”
Lennon, 51, spoke to the press about his aims for the future and there was no indication he was about to receive his P45.
He led the team to their Cypriot Cup success in May, to set up a Europa League play-off, which they got through on an impressive 4-0 win over The Belgians of Gent.
UNVEILED…Neil Lennon faces the press for the first time after being named boss in March this year.
The team’s two matches against Manchester United in their group stage clashes ended in odd-goal defeats – 3-2 at home a fortnight ago and 1-0 at Old Trafford just last week.
Lennon was out of work for just over a year after leaving Celtic in February last year following a dismal 1-0 loss to Ross County in Dingwall.
Now the ex-gaffer is hoping to get back into the game.
There is no immediate update on the futures of ex-Celts Adam Matthews and Gary Hooper who were brought to Cyprus by Lennon.
