That’s Ange completed his crash course in Scottish football. Livi away always presents a unique challenge and we’ll lose more games this season, but it can’t be in the same manner as that.

Me and WeeBGFC – just back in from the game.
Niggling bad feeling started to seep in from about 15 minutes when the intensity of Livi’s players started to hold sweigh over ours across most of the park. Wee Jota couldn’t go around their No 3, Abada’s crossing was rottent and McCarthy? Never seen so many trully awful passes from one player in one game – just seemed to pass it very deliberately 10 years away from anyone – time and time again. Turnbull looked leg-weary. Big Tam was the best man on the park in the first half and Juranovic tried really hard – but little support from those around them. That said, Boli played surprisingly well for a first appearance in 18 months.
Hard start for Ange but its early days – he is picking up a nightmare situation and it isn’t easy to turn that around in 3 months.

Today confirms for me that Ange isn’t a manager that can change a game. The often used example of Rodgers bringing on Eddie at Ibrox when down to ten men is well beyond Ange.
He’s closer to Lennon than Rodgers imo. We’re beginning to see why a manager in his mid 50s had been nowhere near Europe.
If Ange is more Lennon than Rodgers then the only way we change this pattern is to hire better coaching staff and give more support to the manager.
But we’ve kept the support staff from last season. I think we’re in trouble.
The huns are struggling much more this season otherwise we’d be 9 points behind.
Today has removed the blinkers.

Although we have lost a few this season this is the first where I have felt a bit despondent.
Context needed though.
Livi pitch
5 top players injured
3 top players sold in recent window and new ones adjusting….( it happens in Scotland as we don’t get first picks in the window ).
2 days between a tough away euro tie and this one.
Even really good teams have struggled at Livi in past 4 years. Inc BR managed ones with full squads.
We are work in progress and the MIB cost us at Tynecastle.
We were the better team at Ibrox.
We will improve.
Sure the coach probably needs help and today was not good but it’s the first time we didn’t ‘play our game’.
For me it’s about ensuring we are no further behind and ideally better than that with a league cup win by xmas.
Our Japanese window will give us the momentum.
Anyone notice that much maligned Greg Taylor has been missing for much of last 5 games. Lost 4 won 1.

The mantra was/is, all good players are signed by the ‘flavour of the month’ manager – the bad by Lawwell and/or the Board.
Now its good results and performances down to ‘Ange-ball’ & AP – the bad due to the Board’s backroom staff.
Pathetic reasoning…and any attempt to take solace from the Ibrox result is ‘ head in the sand’ desperation.

Don’t disagree with that – a very poor performance. Even against Livi, or other SPFL teams, we can’t afford players who don’t contribute. I’d say we had at least three today – McCarthy, Turnbull, Abada.
I’m sure people who were at the game would be able to name other non-contributors. Not saying they didn’t try – just no end product.

The league table makes for dire reading. The only consolation is that sevco are struggling too.
In the first quarter we play hearts, sevco, aberdeen and hibs away. Arguably, our 4 hardest away games, although all away games are difficult at the moment.
Sevco play celtic, hearts, hibs and aberdeen at home.
If we can stay in touch until the second quarter and get our strongest team on the park we should still have a chance.

A fair amount of straw clutching on here this evening. I hope the optimists are right, but there is a real danger the Undead will have an unassailable lead by the end of October. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel to Sky Sports on a game of two halves: “I was absolutely not happy with the first 45 minutes. We lacked intent, energy and relentless in duels and 50-50 balls.
“We wanted to impress by pure skills but in derbies like this it is not always about just skills. It is about aggression, winning duels and performing better as a team. We spoke clearly about it at half time. In the second half it was a very good performance and a deserved win in the second half. It was a very good reaction so I am happy with the performance in the second half.”
The question must be asked- why couldn’t we do similarly, and change our outlook at halftime?

It’s too early to judge Ange but if I have one concern with him it’s the same as I had with NL and Ronnie deila , ie that this job is the biggest they’ve had and likely to be the biggest they’ll ever have.
I worry that that makes them less fearful of failure and more likely to put up with mediocrity in others.
