Lock up game’s tax deviants

887

The football industry is busy with its twice-a-year transfer jamboree this week but there will scarcely be a player, manager or executive in the country who isn’t daily checking on Harry Redknapp’s on-going court case into his alleged tax arrangements.

Harry, of course, is one of the game’s popular figures, everyone likes him, including me, but his evidence yesterday, that he’s been told “The problem with you is you’re named Harry and you have a cockney accent”, will have the nation pondering if he’s another victim of the systemic prejudice against white, wealthy, indigenous-named, senior and successful people from London.  There must surely be a support group he can join.

I’m sure Harry’s innocence will be established but the law and tax authorities are right to pursue any doubt that exists in the running of the game, without fear or favour.  Where appropriate, pursue the guilty through criminal, not just civil, courts.  Only then will the innocent be sure of a level playing field. Lock ‘Em Up, as a Cockney may observe.

With reference to members of the “cellik” family currently en route to sunny [snowy?] schotland to watch their boy play for the “mighttttty glasgow rangers” I wonder if other cousins such as

    Gerintaythum Cellik

    Gettagripp Cellik

    and errant married daughter

    Ella Cellik Makaroons

might also be on their way?

Shughie McPhee was played by Angus Lennie (now there’s a hint as to what team he may have supported). Angus also appeared in The Great Escape as the wee Scottish guy who got solitary confinement at the same time as Steve McQueen. (separate cells)

He was also in a film about bombing the german war factories or something in Norway. I think his character died in that one as well as they were on an almost suiicidal mission but managed to release their factory-destroying bombs before being blasted from the sky by the evil huns. Must have been a film in the 60’s when it was so easy to tell the goodies from the baddies. His last words were ‘Up the Ra’ – just made that one up.

    thing about that is…

would we rather have 1st-team-Sierra-Leone-internationalists ?

or 2nd-fiddle Spanish, Dutch, German, Italian or French players ?

  4. Has anyone found that more and more of the texts and emails you receive end with the line ‘are the huns dead yet?’.

One goal in21 starts hardly top class or potent striker!

    sounds like a Sammi

  6. Sammon is like a fish out of water in the premier league. I’m sure he was in the pink when he signed but he was just too green about the gills to make that sort of leap and help Wigan climb the league ladder. I know I’m ripping the sole out the blog with these fish puns but I’m some of you sharks will take the bait and wade in with your own.

  7. Top Corner,

I know what you mean mate.

I’m just quite enthused by the quality of the player we have.

I’ve been burned this week in work by presenting stats that looked great on paper but some senior staff poked holes in them and made me look a bit dim. Lesson learned. So, I’m not naive enough to think that 16 internationals in the squad makes a great team, however, we certainly don’t have any Estonian right backs or Bosnian strikers who have hardly scored a goal in four years at club level but have a few caps. We have true international players who play big internatioal games. I also think Forster and Hooper may be added to that list in the not too distant future.

Good times, we still need a striker, would love Luca Toni on loan.

  8. On a quiet afternoon I just came accrued an interview with Jeff Winter on Rangersmedia…….it is breathtaking in its stupidity. Here is one question……..

Rangersmedia.co.uk – Have you ever had your windows smashed, your religion dragged through the mud, your address published inviting attacks or your family threatened? If not, are you glad you never refereed Celtic?

Roberto Martinez recently explained why he subbed Connor Sammon at half time after he played the lone striker role for only 45 minutes:

“He got the hook, can’t lead the line, was having a stinker”

What is it with these Newcastle United fans with laptops? Just came across an article on Newsnow headed something like

“Newcastle 4th choice keeper to make Celtic wait.”

They are either geordie huns or they might just be a teensy bit jealous of the fact that they will never emulate Celtic’s

European history and consequent place in the annals of world football?

I grew up with Chris and his brothers as well- in the QE flats- I left the Soo side and read about his death in the paper, still remembering him as a17-18 year old which was the last time I saw him- big grin on his face as usual. Very sad and I always wondered why no one was convicted for it

  21. Connor Sammon has been considering his international future.

The breaking news is that he has opted for Aquatorial Guinea instead of the country of his birth, ROI, but has since commented that the saga is now water under the bridge.

Pressed on speculation that he would move on loan from Wigan to Celtic at the end of the window, Connor was quoted as saying: One of my favourites starters in a restaurant is Stokes Sammom with a bit of Lennon, I can’t help but see that as a mega omega omen.

Impossible. I live near Warsaw. Wroclaw is far distance from my place. Jaroslaw Fojut plays in Wroclaw. I’m pretty sure people from Wroclaw will be happy to see guests from Ireland and all Celtic fans.
