Look out for Cease and Desist orders

1238

The first thing you do when you raise an asset dispute is issue a Cease and Desist notice.  Inform the other party to stop using your asset, whether it is a piece of intellectual property, like a logo or badge, a piece of equipment or a physical property.

In conjunction with this you also ask for all monies collected in connection with your property to be forward to you.  Football clubs, for example, regularly instruct people, who produce merchandise with unauthorised copies of their club crests, to stop doing so, destroy all unused stock and send them whatever money earned from earlier sales.

If and when a claim reaches court, the first request to the judge is likely to be to freeze use of all assets and cough up cash from sales. Keep your eyes peeled…

CQN Nine-in-a-row Charity Golf Day 2013

Our Annual Charity Golf Day 2013 will take place on Friday 14th June at Aberdour Golf Club.  This is our 9th annual event and I’m delighted to announce that Lisbon Lion and nine-in-a-row striker, Willie Wallace, will be our guest of honour.

After winning everything available to him in Europe, Willie made a new life for himself in Australia, where he established a second career in the game, while retaining strong links to the Celtic ex-pat community.

We will be raising funds for the 125-4-125 appeal, while encouraging all Celtic fans to get involved and stake their claim on what this club is all about.  Cost for the day’s golf and the evening meal and entertainment is £80.  Cost for non-golfers is £45.

The Annual Charity Golf Day is always oversubscribed so get your application for a place in early by emailing, cqnopen2013@gmx.com.

Look forward to seeing you there.

… a growing old population (like me) is less likely to brave the travel and weather conditions to attend the game….

That’s a really interesting point. In the main stand all I see around me are ‘mature’ types aged 40-60+. Where are the young?’

How many of the 40-60 year olds would have gone to the football when they were young if they had to sit down to watch the game?

It’s basically a thought of what I could do to help from a personal point of view.

I can’t get over as often as I like (haven’t got over at all this season due to a new arrival in the family a year ago) but would still like to contribute. I already have the Celtic TV subscription but a membership package would also help. Ironically I was able to get my wee bhoy a membership of the young hoops club but at the moment Celtic have nothing like this to offer me.

I’m sure there would be loads of people who would be interested in a one off annual membership fee. The benefits wouldn’t have to be great, like I said a couple of extra days to get tickets might be enough to persuade some who have not renewed season tickets to give something back. Basically for Celtic, its money for nothing and could also attract overseas fans who just want to feel “part of the club”.

Even conservatively the club should be able to sell 10,000 of these memberships so £300k for very little extra work.

I think parents are more cautious about letting their kids go around on their own these days. When I was a kid in the early 90’s I went to my first game on the supporters bus to Middlesboro. I was 11 and went on my own. Nobody was really designated to look after me. Bus got a puncture and me and another guy I just met hitched a lift to the game in a car. We met up with the rest of the guys in the ground. They arrived at half time and got the bus back up the road. We stopped for a few hours at Cockburnspath as the drink consumed was not at the usual level by being stuck at the side of the road for hours.

My mum was not best pleased especially as there had been a news flash on STV about the pitched battle at half time at Middlesboro. I went to almost every game that season home and away. How many parents nowadays would let an 11 year old do that?

I can see the Tories bringing in a living room tax for that.

The Scottish Football League are working on an alternative to league reconstruction after the failure of the Scottish Premier League to pass a vote on a proposed 12-12-18 structure.

In a statement, SFL chief executive David Longmuir rejected an offer of assistance from the Scottish FA to force through reform for next season, saying an “alternative way forward” was being discussed between member clubs.

Following a meeting of the SFL board on Thursday, Longmuir said: “The Board of the Scottish Football League wishes to convey its thanks to the governing body for its offer of assistance at this time.

“We are, however, currently working with SFL clubs in all divisions with a view to agreeing an alternative way forward which builds on the five core principles.

“We would like to confirm our continued commitment to those principles. We are also very keen to share our proposals with the SPL and the SFA as soon as practical.

“We therefore respectfully wish to ask the SFA to work with us at this time, whilst we progress our proposals.”

The Scottish FA said on Wednesday they had no power to dictate to either the SPL or SFL on league reconstruction but would act as a “mediator” if given a mandate by both organisations.

The SPL have since invited Scottish FA president Campbell Ogilvie and chief executive David Longmuir for talks next week.

  8. The SPL have since invited Scottish FA president Campbell Ogilvie and chief executive David Longmuir for talks next week.

That will get it sorted then. SPL will have 12 teams one being Sevco and they will play all their games at home and will start the season on plus 30 points!

I’m just reading back the debate on what Celtic should do in regard to development, marketing, ticket pricing, etc etc and a great debate it is too but my heart sinks when I see that no matter what we do on our side of the street there are still idiots running the game to it’s detriment on the other side of the street i.e. Ogilvie( how has he got the front) and Longmuir, the problem is and always has been that Scottish Football is a divided house and we will always be seen as outsiders..

After reading how much Cardiff were in debt and how much more they intend to spend I can’t help but wonder where a club like Celtic could go in a league where the financial rewards are so high for merely competing as in the EPL..

These clubs can’t run forever at that rate of debt. Look at Leeds and Portsmouth. There will become a time when the credit dries up. I never in my wildest dreams thought Rangers would be liquidated and it happened. The world is changing and our board ensure it will never let Celtic be in that position.

  11. Continuity:

Agree with the points raised about the £50 kid’s ST – but think there is another area that the Club misses out on and often treats former fans (customers) rather shabbily.

I was first taken to CP (60 years ago) by my grandfather. Why? Because my father was working and I got lifted over – bet there’s plenty in my age group who started that way.

I know a number of guys who have given up their ST when they retired aged 60-64 because they don’t get a concession – I include myself having held one for 25 years. Pension kicks in – but disposable income decreases and there comes a point (3 years in my case) when it becomes hard to justify the spend. There are times (as you get older) when; health, weather, travel etc impact on your attendance.

On the mailing-list, email – was on the away ticket scheme – 25 years (same seat for 12+) and not a ‘dickie bird’ from the Club as to why.

How many have been lost when someone retires aged 60-65? How many would have been sold if there was a Grandfather/ grandkid scheme running?

Plenty of parents work and rely on grandparents to ‘watch the kids’ at weekends – it was my Grandfather who installed my love for Celtic (and 60 years continuous support) – I bet there are plenty of the ‘Auld Brigade’ out there who would be happy to continue the tradition (if the price was right)!

I wasn’t suggesting that we run a debt like those clubs but when you see how much the smaller clubs in England get just for being there from TV etc I was wondering how a well run club like ours could use those finances to grow our club rather than constantly battling against those in power here like Ogilvie etc who would gladly see our club destroyed..

I was never one who thought we should leave Scotland I had always hoped that we would lead a rebirth of The Game but l that doesn’t look like it will happen any time soon as the skullduggery continues..

For the record the £50 ST is still going…..but only for Under 13s now.

I think HT made the point about it being reintroduced for up to the `16yr olds which it was when the reduced priced ST was first introduced by Celtic.

I have to admit that the £50 ST is a fantastic idea and had basically ensured that i continue to pay mine as well!

I was very close to packing my ST in (have had it since the Jungle was seated – still find that weird after all these years) 2 seasons ago. But instead of losing my close to £600, Celtic are actually gaining an extra £50 for my Bhoy’s ST whilst I continue to pay mine also.

Like many others I’ll buy my STs again next season but will almost certainly only make a handful of games (work/family committments etc), but this is not something new for me. Ive been basically doing that same thing for the last 16 years. Back then it was because I was still playing Sat football but again didnt want to give up my ST, then it was family reasons, then work and family!

As for reduced prices to induce new ST holders, as others have said I doubt that will work too well, as on many, many occasions I have have been unable to give my season book away for games. It has been worse in recent times.

  17. Can anyone explain how Ogilvie is still in office? Has he the job for life? Surely he wasn’t re-elected?

As for that chancer Longmuir, wouldn’t trust him to collect our rubbish.

  18. I read earlier that one of our posters got his ST reminder in this morning. Is this done in alphabetical order, can’t remember from previous years. Old age indeed, that’s why I am now eligible for the lowest rate now. :))

I think the key is in the ownership of these clubs. They do not care about the future only their ego’s. I agree with what you are saying regarding the EPL but it will all come crashing down soon. It’s just not sustainable. It won’t continue to grow as it is. It must reach a ceiling soon and when the TV funds start to come down the clubs will go out of business one by one. It’s a shame that the FA haven;t had the foresight to put controls in down there. Some decent clubs could go to the wall. Everton are one club who appear to be living as close to their means as possible and making a decent go at challenging other clubs. I for one would like to see them doing well. Their neighbours are throwing money about crazy. I believe they have one of the highest wage bvills in England £131m per season. Madness!

Opening day bars outside the ground is a gold mine. Celtic could make a fortune with dare I say gazeebo’s or such like structures. They have the experience of their sponsors to tap into who do it for T in the park. Plastic tumblers and very little outlay and maximum profit. Easier for the police as well. All cleared away before the game even finishes. I think having a static bar outside th ground too is a winner. make it a large one that can accomodate a few thousand people. Not everyone wants to have a drink but it would be a serious money maker. I would even suggest a boozer for away fans or a similar tented structure. Lets the police have them all in one place. All maybe pie in the sky but there is money to be made and the pubs around Celtic Park struggle to cope with demand. How many guys on your bus forget about a pint because they struggle to get in a pub and get one? The pubs are just as busy when the games are on right enough. We have had occassions when guys use the game as an excuse to get away from the wife and weans and have an afternoon in the pub!

But what do we get instead to lay down the law? The likes of Campbell Ogilvie et al, cretins like CG, all propped up by a mainstream media who wish to canonise the likes of Thatcher who was a close friend (?) of someone like Pinochet, a well known psychopath and torturer.
