Madden semi-final ref, what were the odds?

1107

What were the odds of Bobby Madden being appointed referee for our Scottish Cup semi-final against Newco?  Fairly short, I would imagine.  All we want from Bobby is a fair crack of the whip.  When a Newco player lunges with both feet off the ground at Patrick Roberts, we don’t expect him to be distracted by checking his watch.  When Leigh Griffiths is taken down, waist high, inside the box, before his opponent can get near the ball, we expect a penalty.

Such expectations were not on the coupon previously but are not too much to ask.

Re the Ray Wilkins story compare it to what I just witnessed from my works van outside ALL BAR ONE in Glasgow city centre.

A beggar sitting on the pavement sheltering under the canopy from the elements and a wee fud of a warden telling him to move from were he was, to sit at the rubbish bin in the rain.

I’ve added a link to show a picture of were it happened. If the link works the beggar was sitting against the glass of the building behind the phone box to the right of the banner barriers and the wee fud (that’s being polite) made him move so he was sitting with his back against the bin in the pissing rain.

I think your perception like mine, though different in conclusion is gleaned from public comment unless I’m mistaken, and you were party to the alleged verbal promises and complex contract stand offs that arose via the Three Amigos.

We are supposed to believe among other nonsense via the gutter press etc ,that Fergus McCann stiffed them all for a wage rise?

If he did, I prefer to be on his side, as he was protecting Celtic supporters money from the ‘mercenary footballer’ that all left having used Celtic when they needed a contract, any old contract, and it suited them to sign.

Whose to say all three wouldn’t have asked for more, and more had Fergus caved in?

Either way I don’t dwell on how much they were getting or wanted its all fantasy money levels and none of them were particularly loyal to Celtic, never mind McCann.

    Another wee story.

    I love wildlife, particularly birds.

I went to The Cairngorms a few years ago, trying to find some rarer birds.

I went to a place called Lost and found a male Goshawk, an incredible bird. I text my 2 oldest to tell them. My daughter replied, that’s brilliant, so pleased for you Dad, my son replied you’re a boring ba****d Dad. :-)

    JNP,

have you read “H is for Hawk”? Helen MacDonald’s story about training a goshawk (sort of therapy for her as she was dealing with her father’s death)…. if you are into that sort of thing, it is a great read.

Are you certain it was a goshawk? Apparently it’s the most misreported bird in the UK (ie the one County Recorders are least likely to accept reports of).

‘If you think you’ve seen a goshawk, you probably haven’t’ as one of them told me.

I’m delighted to inform you the sighting was confirmed.

I was with a local wildlife resident, I am fairly knowledgeable myself, but this woman was in a different league to me. I spotted the bird and she said that’s our resident Goshawk. We had a really good view,as she knew the area.

Bizarrely, later on I heard Capercaillie, it was May, so the breeding season but I couldn’t see them, they sounded right beside me. Imagine that a bird that size, I couldn’t get it.

It takes a bizarre leap of logic to link the Skripal pets story to Scottish Independence but a true McGlashan laughs at such restrictions.

Britain once went to war over Robert Jenkin’s ear but it would top that if we started a war over Yulia Skripal’s cat.

As an attempt at fake news or conspiracy, this one has unravelled fairly quickly.

I found the introspective angst a bit cloying and self indulgent.

And too self consciously literary rather than informative. Probably intentionally, given that it’s a homage to TE Whyte.
