Maeda return and Bernardo’s low price

382

Brendan Rodgers will hopefully see Daizen Maeda at Lennoxtown earlier than planned, as Japan’s World Cup qualifier in North Korea has been cancelled by the hosts due to “unforeseen circumstances”.   Fifa have yet to decide if the game can go ahead at a neutral venue but that is currently considered unlikely.

Reports in Japan suggest the cancellation is due to the outbreak of an infectious disease in the country, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, which is deadly and makes international travel unnecessarily risky.

Daizen is a nailed-on starter for the important games after the international break, so having him back early and focussed on the priorities ahead is important.

I’m not having any “a bit steep” chat about Paulo Bernardo’s reported €7.5m asking price from Benfica.  The player only recently turned 22 and has the core ability we should be looking to turn into a top player – just as we did with Matt O’Riley.  This is the going rate, anything less than that and you’re not taking a talent out of Portugal.

  1. The Celtic support IMO, sees this opportunity to force some positive changes, but we are used to this Board bending over, and saying nothing, I fear more of the same.

  2. Ziggy- will kick in after the game at Poundland, they couldn’t keep him safe anywhere in that place

  3. I just cannot see Dermot Desmond instructing a change of direction .

All our senior management ,dance to his tune .

It will be more of the same .

The Darnel are now slight favourites to win the SPFL title.,and have a decent chance of a treble .

IF we lose this league then over the last four years ,it will be 2 titles each .

In that time they have achieved an invincible league win and reached a European final ,with the edge of the Frankfurt keepers leg stopping Kent hitting a late winner .

They are matching us over the last 4 years ,from a much less comfortable financial footing .

Off course the balance can swing back in our favour IF we can win the league .

With the financial advantage that we have had this should not be as fraught with danger .

There is no doubt that over the last 4 years we have mismanaged our financial advantage.

A wee heads up for this documentary. Won Best Film at the Copenhagen Film Festival. It’s about the lingering, unresolved trauma of some of the residents of the New Lodge estate in Belfast greatly impacted by ‘The Troubles’.

    Watched it this morning.

    An Tearmann…

My wife was a participant at the festival in Copenhagen and as such she has a code which allows her to see the films that were shown. We watched The Flats over breakfast this morning. I’m afraid you will have to wait until it is picked up by the BBC, Netflix or a screening at the GFT or similar. But it is worth keeping an eye out for it.

If we win the league is it not a sign that the sign that the club is being run well?

Surely you too eagerly await this season’s Mill United Boys club under 15s POTY on the bench for the Champions League opening game?

Sevco have being competing in the europa league which is far easier to do than champions league level. Their champions league results have been worse than our. In fact worse than anyone ever last time they where there. Sevco have again been spending more than they earn, on avarage they are spending 10 million more than they bring in with loans, converted to shares used to cover the financial gaps. So yes they are competing but once again they are doing it against a backdrop of debt.

This season sevco will have taken in about 28 million from europa league t.v. price and gate etc. If they get access to champions league money they will pocket around 50 million all being equal. Minus the running debt of 10 million and amount earned from europa league participation as above that likely means the champions league puts them in the black to the tune of around 10 million. At some point they are gonna need to stop the crazy loans, its not sustainable and will not end well particularly I they are gambling on champions league participation.

Unfortunately celtic have been doing the exact opposite. We have been saving money and have built up a lot of capital. Nice to have but only if you have maximised all aspects of your business I.e., capital investment such as training complex, car parks, hotels, museum, super store, pubs, restaurants etc. We had 67 million in the bank prior to abada being sold for 8 million. This summer we will pick up around 10 million when fringpong is sold and 25 million for o’reilly. We will likely see another 10 million if not more from the other squad players sold. Even if we lose the league, which is not certain, and only get into the europa league, I would expect us to make at least 35 million with the changes to said tournament on top of the money outline above.

Point is the super-duper game changing new European format is not a game changer in scottish football. The real game changer is if the celtic board decide to alter transfer market dealings to accommodate for a mixture of first team ready players and projects rather than completely focusing on projects.

If you read posts here and elsewhere, the champions league money is considered in isolation with context missing to often to sensationalise and catastrophies.

The good news is we are very much in the financial driving street regardless of the outcome of this season, the bad news is the board are very risk averse and to change their approach might prove difficult.

  10. As I see it, if we don’t win the league, is it rainjurz fault? Sure they have been helped by the ludge, but we have to be honest here, we brought most of on ourselves sadly.

But, we WILL win the league.

Some time back that old joke had to be rewritten.

Bing Crosby was know to associate with and perform at various venues owned by the mob.

Not unusual, Frank et al did the same later on. Thing is Bing never ratted anyout out, he kept schtum.

Walt Disney on the other hand was an informant for the FBI for decades….

It’s an open question Tom, personally, will come as no surprise to you, I don’t have any faith in our current Board, to do anything to change what they have done before, remember they wanted ‘full transparency ‘ when Beaton didn’t red card Morelos 3 times ……if they did get it,why not let the support have the same transparency? Numerous examples over the years,I hope to be surprised come Thursday.
